Winchester House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

Watch the sun rise over the lake as you sip your morning coffee at the handmade knotty pine bar. Delightful year-round cottage on pristine Forest Lake, located in the heart of the Monadonock region, close to the New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont borders.

The rustic knotty pine cottage has all the comforts of home including two TVs, cable, two decks and a huge screened porch overlooking the lake with gorgeous views of the mountains. A full kitchen includes a microwave and gas stove, or if you like select from over 50 restaurants in nearby Keene. Two bedrooms upstairs with one full bed, a bunk bed and two twin beds allow up to six people to sleep comfortably. Downstairs, a comfortable futon and queen-size sleeper sofa accommodate an additional four people. On the screen porch overlooking the lake, enjoy a cookout on the gas grill, curl up with a good book or nap in the hammock as you listen to the birds.

On the quiet dead end street, enjoy a nice afternoon stroll as the kids ride their bikes. Enjoy fishing for bass and trout, swimming in the 110 acre spring-fed lake off the 175 square foot stationary dock, or taking a ride in the paddleboat or canoe. In the fall, the leaves changing colors on the nearby mountains are a spectacular backdrop to the crystal clear water of the lake. Enjoy snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing and snow shoeing in the winter, leaf peeping, hunting and hiking in the fall. Mount Monadonock is just a short drive away and offers hiking and bike trails. If shopping is more to your liking, Keene is just a short drive and offers the Colony Mill Marketplace with over 50 unique shops and plenty of antique stores and boutiques.

About The Owner

We have had this property in our family for three generations! It was purchased by Max & Viola Szetela in 1959, so that they could enjoy their summers on Forest Lake. In 1990, their son Bob took over the care of the cottage and converted it from a seasonal cottage to a year round home, so they could enjoy ice fishing, skating and winters on the lake. Now the fourth generation has begun to enjoy the cottage as well.

The Owner purchased this house in 1959

Why The Owner chose Winchester

Forest Lake provides the opportunity to 'get away from it all' while still being close to modern conveniences like restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. The lake is spring fed and stocked every year with trout for fishing enthusiasts. Our beach is sunny and warm, and the dock is perfect for fishing or soaking your feet as you watch the kids swim. On the beach sit and enjoy the sun or build a sandcastle (water toys provided).

What makes this house unique

Our home provides modern conveniences like a fully stocked kitchen, jacuzzi tub, high speed Internet and WIFI, convenient off-street parking, and incredible views from nearly every room. The 12x20 foot screened in porch overlooking the lake is perfect for an evening meal, playing cards, reading a book or just relaxing after a day of swimming. The 6x20 foot deck is perfect for morning coffee and watching the kids swim or the boats out on the lake. At night, enjoy the fire pit on the beach and roast marshmellows, tell stories and enjoy a cocktail as you watch the moon rise over the lake.

PLEASE NOTE: Nov. through March, only basic cable TV.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for your prompt release of deposit. All of us truly enjoyed the stay at the place last week. Everything was as expected and the view of the lake and all the amenities were great and cannot forget very good fishing!!! It was very relaxing week for my family and everyone in my family really enjoyed the place. Additionally, the photo copy of true "catch and release" was quite a kick for us. Thanks!

Love everything about it! Huge screen porch for meals, cards, boat watching. Large dock for fishing and swimming, really cute decor. We stay every year and it never disappoints. Kids love it!

Great View

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house on April 29 - May 2. The weather was a bit cold. We couldn't take the canoe out for fishing or enjoy the lake. However, the house has a great view! Every morning, we would sit outside looking at the lake while drinking our coffee! It was very relaxing!

Great place to rent in the summer!

We were delightfully surprised by this beautiful and charming home. Our kids loved jumping off the dock, we enjoyed fishing in the canoe, and the location is perfect. A very comfortable place for a nice family vacation. We'll be renting again this year.
