About the property

Beautiful, Open, Airy, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Complete Kitchen, Washer/Dryer

This lovely open and bright, 1 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is complete with all the amenities you need. It is detached from the house and nestled in the back yard so you and the birds have all the privacy you want. (Landscaping is currently being done by the squirrels) With a fully stocked kitchen, and washer and dryer it is the perfect home away from home. Heat and air conditioning. Smart TV and WIFI. Park right in front of the house. Visiting children or grandchildren? Flying in for business or pleasure or house hunting? My cottage is 15 minutes away from the airport and downtown Portland. Walk to our local volcano, Mt. Tabor Park and stop for coffee or food at our nearby cafes and restaurants. (See "why this property" below for restaurant ideas.)

The Powell Bus #9 will take you right into downtown Portland and the Division Bus #4 will take you to the "scene" on Division. Then you can retreat to the serenity of the cottage.

The cottage is minutes away from Interstate 205 which takes you to Interstate 84 out to the Columbia Gorge. Most hikes are only 45 minutes away and the views in the Gorge are so lovely, ever changing. Driving to Mt. Hood is easy from the cottage by going east on Foster Rd, a lovely 1.5 hour drive through Pleasant Valley, Damascus, Boring, then back on to Route 26 (missing all the stop lights/traffic congestion). Mt. St Helen's is a wonderful day trip, only 2 hour drive away.

This was even better than we expected

  • 5 of 5

Our 3-week stay in Becky's cottage was delightful. The very new and super-clean accommodations are first rate: A very nice kitchen, well appointed with a full size stove/oven, microwave, coffee machine, refrigerator/freezer and a nice TV. To be sitting for breakfast in the morning with the sun coming over the garden was a pleasure. And there is a patio with table and chairs to sit outside and a barbecue if that is your way to cook. We enjoyed the garden since some delicious blueberries where just ripe during our visit and even made some compote from a huge rhubarb plant also in the garden. The bathroom is superb, with a shower faucet that keeps the temperature adjustment between showers. And also, there is a washer/dryer, all appliances very new.

Becky is a perfect hostess, always ready to help if you need any information (hikes, visits, restaurants, etc...). She even proposed the use of her car when a little problem occurred to us during our stay. This is the best VRBO we have used so far.

Owner's Response: You both were wonderful and gracious guests. You were my first guests to stay for three weeks. When I cleaned the cottage, it was in better shape than many that just stay the weekend! Please do come back. You can play tennis again with your son at the courts in the park near the cottage.

This cottage was lovely and worked out perfectly for our trip to visit kids/grandkids near by in Portland. It had exactly what we needed, no more and no less -- and I mean that as a great compliment. There is no clutter, and space for your own things, while still having every dish, pan, bowl, implement you need. I loved the simplicity and modern elegance of the place and the furnishings. The backdoor to the garden is really nice to have, and I can imagine in the spring it is a nice place to hang out. We hope to be back to find out! Becky is a wonderful host, and we appreciate her help and responsiveness, especially as ours was a last minute booking.

Owner's Response: I'm glad that your previous accommodations did not work out so that we could meet and you could stay at the cottage. It was great to talk van/RV ideas. The crocuses and daffodils are starting to peek their little heads out. It will be great to have you both visit again!

Great stay in a sharp, comfortable cottage.

  • 5 of 5

I loved the cottage. It was very comfortable and all that I needed. I chose it because it was close to my son who just bought a house nearby. I loved the decor, the colors. It is simple yet very sharp, Becky was very helpful, warm and welcoming. I walked often in Mt Tabor Park and ate at Cocquina and Tabor Bread. All are wonderful and not far away. It was a great stay and I hope to be back soon to stay and visit my son!

About Becky Maloney

I'm a nurse preparing for retirement. I've converted my old garage into the home of my dreams. So, until I'm too old and decrepit to hike, I am excited to share my cottage with you. If you're interested I will be glad to share the best hikes and views not only of this area but Mt. Rainier and the North Cascades.

Becky Maloney purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Becky Maloney chose South Tabor

I love the diversity of the neighborhood. The Asian market, Fubonn, is 4 blocks away. OM Seafood and Restaurant is very high quality. (Hong Kong vegetables is a glass pie plate full of broccoli, snow peas on rice noodles with chicken or tofu.) Petite Provence on Division is the best INEXPENSIVE French restaurant around. Don't miss Arleta Library Bakery Cafe for breakfast! I can walk to Mt. Tabor (our inner city volcano/park) and stop for coffee on the way home. Check out the hospitality section on this website or read the journal in the cottage for more suggestions...and PLEASE add your favorite places and eateries in the journal when you visit!
