It is set in a landscaped garden among tropical fruit trees and flowering plants and date palms, with a separate gate and pathway leading to the downstairs room. The house has private parking and is approached by a short rising access road. It is not necessary to hire a car. Small 14-seater buses are frequent, great fun and a bus stop is 3 minutes walk from the villa.

We were seeking a different experience from area resorts and All Inclusive offers that do nothing for local economies. We found oasis at My Brothers House.
Jenny was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived and meeting her - we knew our stay would be special.
The home is the quintessential caribbean beach cottage. It is completely outfitted. We spent nights entertaining on the huge veranda and simply taking the moments in, lighting candles found throughout the home.
This is not a plastic experience. It is an island experience. But there are conveniences. Epicurean Fine foods market in Jolly Harbor was best resource for provisioning. Specialty stores are available in English Harbour but are aimed at the yacht crowd. Also, the washing machine in home was a treat. Yes, many have this as a feature in their rentals, but again, look at this price point and you will understand immediately! Amazingly, the fee for My Brothers House is impossible to find elsewhere. A true bargain.
The location is central to Jolly Harbor (north) and English Harbour (south). A car is absolutely necessary for this kind of vacation. We had another resource on island for vehicle rental, but Jenny has discount arrrangement with one of the larger companies. Be sure to ask about it.
OJ's and Gibson's restaurants are across the street. There is also a bright yellow shack on the corner called Carvell's Cook Shop, offering lunch daily until 3pm and Saturdays until 6pm. offering fantastic baked chicken, fried fish, fish "water". Amazing. Do not be alarmed by the simplicity of Carvell's. Fantastic food is prepared here. No sign, just look for the yellow hut.
We hope to return and will certainly ask Jenny, Ian and My Brothers House to stay here again.
Just back from My Brothers House. This is the perfect place to go if you want to stay in a traditional Antiguan house in a small local village overlooking the ocean. The house is pretty with a lovely garden and although some may say a little worn it is comfortable , clean and has everything you need. The view from the balcony is to die for. We arranged a pick up from the airport by a local man who was just charming, friendly and helpfull. He stopped at the supermarket so we could get supplies. Jenny met us at the house, what a delightfull lady. You really do need a car but busses are cheap and regular. There are beach bars and restaurants within walking distance. The beaches are beautifull and you can hire sun chairs. Do go to Shirley Heights on Sunday evening, well worth the visit. In some reviews people have commented about the dogs barking. They really dont bark that much and the sound of the cockerals crowing is quite nice. Remember you are in a local village which mostly is quiet peacefull and safe. We have stayed on the island before in various resorts but when we return we will be staying here again. This was one of the best holidays and we have travelled a lot. Stay here, you will not be dissappointed i can assure you. we will be going back next year. Thankyou Jenny
We were looking for a great place by the beach and close to restaurants. Let me say this was just perfect. It was on a hill and is a bit of a climb walking back from the beach, but it is so worth it to wake up to that view. Jenny was great and very helpful (even left us some goodies in the fridge). Thank you!!
We had asked Jenny for pick up service from the airport too (please ask her) it was great. Evie picked us up and even drove us to a seafood festival, he is great and a he knows everyone...lol
The pictures listed here do not do it justice, it is far better in person!! It does take a day or so to get use to the roosters down the hill, but you get to see the sunrise on the balcony. All in all it was a great trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for making our trip great.
My Sweetheart and I stayed at "My Brothers House" from March 20 - 31, 2016. We had many favourable experiences starting the moment a veteran Crabbe Hill local named Evy Johnson pick us up in town and delivered us to the house where Jenny met us personally. Jenny is the epitome of that great aunt everybody needs to have; She's an industrious, loving, gregarious, fountain of local knowledge and we had no doubt we were in good hands. The house is terrific with a view of the Caribbean that justifies the price alone. The house was certainly clean and tidy and had everything we needed (Note that it doesn't have a microwave as listed though!). The water cistern did run dry a couple days into our vacation and it was no surprise that we were invited to shower at Jenny's house and a water truck delivered fresh water the next morning. Jenny took good care of us.
If there is anything prospective renters need to know, its that the house is up a very steep narrow hill (think 45 degree plus) and the driveway comes off a narrow road (Charlotte Street) that is littered with derelict vehicles, dogs, chickens and goats. The chickens and goats are fine but the derelict vehicles don't say much for the neighbourhood. The dogs have plenty to say, and were the worse part of our stay as they rarely shut up, chased our vehicle (Don't even think of coming here without a rental car!) and barked nearly incessantly for the whole vacation. This included our "quiet time" reading on the verandah, while we ate and of course while we slept. The neighbor in front has a large husky type dog tied only a few feet below the verandah and it is neglected, hence it barks and barks and barks. This was very frustrating. I should add that it sounds like everyone in Crabbe Hill has at least two roosters which crow as much as the dogs bark, though not nearly as annoyingly.
That said, we had a good vacation with daily excursions around the island. Highlights were Devil's Bridge (and snorkeling at the beach just north of there), Nelson's Dockyard (including English Harbour and Falmouth), Darkwood Bay (Hands down; Best Beach) and Sunday afternoon/evening at Shirley's Heights (Steel drum band, rocknroll and a nice barbeque - pricey!). The kayak tour of the mangroves at Cades Reef was also highly enjoyable. We would highly recommend this property to couples, especially deaf ones. Hopefully, with tourism listed as the bread and butter of Antigua's future, locals will take care of their noisy dogs!
From the very beginning we fell in love with this Traditional Antiguan house. We had a very warm welcome from Jenny. She is such a lovely person and lives just nearby.
The view is brethtaking. Having dinner on you terrace to watch pass the cruise ships in the distance after a wonderful sunset with the island of Montserrat right in front of you and the turqoise carribbean sea just cant be topped.
The house is located in a quied area with a lot of green all around. The place is clean and very well equipped, so you will find everything you need to have a lovely stay.
The whole house with the garden can be used at your own so there is plenty of space.
We recommend to rent a four wheel drive car because the road to the house is steep.
After a very short walk you will find yourself at a wondreful beach with the possibility to eat in a very good local restaurant.
This is one of the very rarely places away from sterile hotels where you will find peace in a local and save carribbean community from witch you can discover all the beauty of Antigua. We have been to a lot of places in past years so we now what we are talking about.
We would like to thank also Ian Goldsmith. He was always contactable and very friendly and professional.
All in all we can recommend this location a hundret percent !!
This is a great cottage for experiencing traditional village life in Antigua just meters away from the best beach in Antigua and easy access walking to Darkwood Beach and Jolly Harbour for the shops by bus. A find.
The house is a designed so you can enjoy a cooling breeze over you at night, which means no need for a fan or air conditioning. And there is continual running hot and cold water. The cockrels and dogs barking in the early hours take a while to adjust to but it was also great waking earlier than I normally would to enjoy the morning hours.
I loved going to OJ's just down the road especially on Friday and Sundays and listening to Val and Roland playing Jazz, equally it was fabulous sitting on the balcony on these evenings listening to their music travel up to the cottage. I even made it along to some local cricket matches at Urlings Cricket Club meeting Andy Roberts, the first person to play Test Cricket from Antigua - such a great atmosphere and spirit there!
I love Jenny, a great host. Thank you so much for such a wonderful special stay. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a more authentic experience of Antigua with a few home comforts.
