Our property is located on crystal-clear Crystal Lake, known as one of the ten most beautiful inland lakes in the world. Our home is quaint and inspiring. Outside the door, and just across a lightly used one lane road, is 60 feet of frontage on the lake.
In regard to the one lane road: It is a public street, but is used primarily by the owners and renters on the south side of Crystal Lake. Most of the traffic you will experience will be bikers, joggers, and walkers. Yes, for the safety of all staying at the cottage, you do have to be aware of the occasional cars that slowly drive by, but for the most part the car traffic is limited to the people living in the cottages over the summer.
We have sand for the kids to play in, and a nice dock to swim, lounge, or watch the sunsets from each night. The lake is nine miles in length and up to two miles in width. It is great for fishing and all water sports. We even have a mooring for your boat. There is a nice fire pit for making s'mores or to sit around in the evening. A 'rail-to-trail' is available just outside the front door that gives the outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to walk, jog, or bike upon. The full length of the trail is about 24 miles.
We are only one mile from the small town of Beulah, Michigan. It has nice shops for the shoppers. It is a small town that takes you back to living in the late 50's and 60's, minus all the typical franchises that often decorate most other cities. There is even a neat drive-in theater (Cherry Bowl) just down M-31 about three miles from Beulah. It has double features each evening. Everybody just loves it. It was built in 1953 and still has that 50's environment (Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean etc.).
The beautiful city of Frankfort, Michigan is only five miles West of our cottage. It is a quaint picturesque port city with great dining, shopping, ICE CREAM, and Lake Michigan Beaches.
The famous Sleeping Bear Dunes are less than an hour north of us. In fact, you will be with an hour's reach of many Northern Michigan tourist sights and other activities for small day trips if that interests you.
I know that pets are important to the family. If you are interested in bringing the family pet along, please call us to discuss that possibility.
We are very proud of our cottage. It is nestled in an area that we like to think of as our 'Little Paradise' or 'Heaven on Earth'. Whatever the case, we invite you to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan and enjoy the breath-taking views of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world!!!
My wife, Susan, just retired from a 38 year teaching career. I also retired after a 39 year career in education as well. She is an avid Tigers fan. I am a Chicago Bears fan.
We have two children. Ali is a teacher in the Denver, Colorado, area, and a 2013 graduate of MSU. Steve is a 2015 graduate of Aquinas College. Ali is an Art major and Steve graduated with a Communication degree.
Jack Manciu purchased this house in 2004
Our cottage is just far enough away from Beulah that it avoids the noise of the small town associated with the traffic that it experiences.
Most people spend most of their time outside, and we have a great deck at the end of our dock (see picture) that sets over the water. Great for sunsets and reading as well as swimming.
Beautiful sunsets, nice bike rides, and great camp fires in the evening. Boating and swimming are great. We also have a great dock that T's at the end and gives you a deck right over the water.
Casa de Lago has been my family's vacation destination for several years. Crystal Lake is a notably clean and clear lake which makes it delightful for swimmers. The large T-shaped deck makes a great place to chill and view the panoramic green hills surrounding the lake. The non-smoking home has all the comforts of civilization with a well equipped kitchen for having meals at home. The Betsie River Trail bike path is right out the front door and a short bike ride or drive to Beulah, a sweet little vacation town with a number of nice shops, an organic grocery store and Crystal Lake Adventures where you can rent a bike, kayak, or SUP. Make sure to have breakfast/lunch at L'Chaim Delicatessen which has made-daily bagels and delicious sandwhiches and baked goods. Nearby Frankfort you'll find more shopping and casual or fine dining as well as a wonderful fresh fish market. For site seeing: Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes; Betsie River, Platte River for kayaks, paddling/tubing, Winery Tours and several Farmers Markets. The area is family oriented and quiet! We have fond memories of our vacations at Casa and look forward to our next stay~
There is a Drive In Theater located south of Beulah called the Cherry Bowl. It is only on of a few left in Michigan.
M 22 offers a variety of day hikes out to Lake Michigan from a variety of trailheads located all along the highway.
and it is considered one of the most scenic drives in the country featuring great views of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Frankfort is just a few miles west of our cottage and is a beautiful port city with many restaurants and unique shopping stores. Empire and Glen Arbor are two quaint cities located just north of Frankfort off of M 22. Traverse City located just 35 miles north of Beulah is well know for it's many wine tasting locations, restaurants (Apache Trout and Jolly Pumpkin) and great view of the bays.
