Castelgandolfo golf club: a mansion built in the seventeenth century overlooks the crater of a volcano. The residence, originally built for Cardinal Flavio Chigi, is now considered the most charming club house among golf clubs; the crater, thanks to the imagination of Robert Trent Jones, has been transformed into a fascinating golf course, full of technical features. The naturally inclined land has also been endowed with bunkers, small lakes, artificial obstacles and many more tricks like centenarian olive trees, oaks and pine trees. The balcony of the club house offers a fascinating and complete panorama of the course: the 18 holes can be embraced in a single look, giving the feeling of an intimate and evocative atmosphere.
The Golf Club is at only 5 km from the Villa.
Our family just spent 10 wonderful days at Villa La Selvotta! We were a family of 12 ranging in ages from 2 to 56 years old. Everyone enjoyed our stay at the Villa from the wonderful meal prepared on our first evening to the beautiful grounds and swimming pool. The Villa was peaceful and relaxing and yet just a short drive to the train station for trips to Rome and beyond. Our children and grandchildren kept telling us that staying at the Villa only made their trip of a lifetime more memorable. We highly recommend the Villa La Selvotta.
Our family reunion was a huge success. We were 15 people ages from 5 to 75. Everybody loved the Villa and especially the amazing garden. We would come back any day.
We spent a week with our extended family at Villa La Selvotta. The villa itself and the surrounding park and garden exceeded all our expectations. It was absolutely beautiful. The private pool area and the soccer area was particularly enjoyed by the kids in our family. The garden was very spacious and well taken care of - we truly enjoyed spending our days there. The nearby villages offered astounding views and good meals. One evening we ordered a dinner by the tenants at villa. The food was delicious - especially the Vitello Tonnata and the Tiramisu! Great memories and definitely recommended!
We stayed at Villa La Selvotta for a week at the end of May 2014 to celebrate my 70th birthday. There were 14 of us comprising my grandchildren, my children and my wife and me. The Villa La Selvotta was the perfect venue for such an event with such a spread of ages, from 8 to 70. The villa comfortably accommodated everyone. For all of us but especially the children, the swimming pool and the large area around it was a big hit. So was the full sized footbal pitch! The Villa sits in its own very spacious grounds, some of which is natural woodland and the remainder, a large and well tended garden and lawns. On our arrival and again to celebrate my birthday we arranged for Maria Pia who is the housekeeper, assisted by her daughter Chiara, to prepare dinner for us. What delightful experiences they were. Roman cuisine at its best and enjoyed by every one of us. Thank you Maria Pia and Chiara for looking after us so well. Albano Laziale is well placed for the rail journey into Rome and also for visiting the other towns in the Castelli Romani area. Fausta, the villa owner, was very responsive to all our queries prior to our holiday. Her advice was invaluable and included the need for transport during the visit. Again she was correct. You need transport to visit the many local towns in the Castelli Romani and in our case, again on Fausta's advice, a visit to the ancient Roman site at Ostia Antica. When we left, our granddaughters were in tears and I wanted to reset the clock and start again. Many thanks Fausta
My family and friends rented this villa for a week to celebrate my 50th Birthday. What a beautiful home. All our needs were tended to and the villa owner was especially helpful in assisting us with our arrangements and providing us with maps and information about nearby places. While this vacation had many bumps along the way including trouble with our car rental breaking down, canceled/late flights, 100 degree weather and an an overbooked tour schedule, coming back to this villa at the end of every day was like being in paradise. The pool was an especially welcome amenity! I would highly recommend this villa. Albano Laziale was a great little town with Rome being easily accessible. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for two weeks.
We arrived at night to a dark house, but oh so beautiful. The staff was there and took good care of us. The rooms were fine and especially the master bedroom. Almost all rooms have balcony, which we liked. The kitchen was a bit small but ok. The garden was lovely. Unfortunately, we went out in the dark when we arrived and one of the grandchildren fell from the lawn down to the football ground, a height difference of perhaps 3 m, and sprained his foot. A small fence there to warn of the height difference would have been good. There were lots of steps in the house but we liked the multi-story design since we were so many persons. We will never forget this fantastic week and would love to go back sometime.
The so-called Roman Castles (Castelli Romani in Italian) is a group of comunes in the province of Rome. They are located at short distance south-east of the city of Rome, at the feet of the Alban Hills, in the territory corresponding to the Old Latium.
The area of the castles occupies a fertile volcanic area which has allowed since ancient times a flourishing agriculture. The former crater is occupied by two lakes, the Lake of Nemi and that of Albano. Starting from the ancient Roman era, it was an area frequented by the noblemen of Rome for its fresher climate during summer: the tradition was followed by the Popes which still have their summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, on the Lake Albano.
Albano Laziale is a municipality of about 40,100 inhabitants in the province of Rome and it's one of the most important of the Roman Castles district. Among the other cities in the area like Velletri, Rocca di Papa, Rocca Priora and Marino, Albano Laziale is one of the largest cities in this area.
One of the major attractions is without a doubt the Lake Albano or Castel Gandolfo, which attract tourists and residents from surrounding areas to enjoy long walks on the shores and romantic dinners in the many restaurants. Albano Laziale, like Frascati and Grottaferrata, is one of the most visited of the Roman Castles area due to its extensive artistic, cultural and historic heritage. You can also taste typical Roman food and excellent local wines from around Rome and surrounding areas. Staying in Roman Castles you should visit the ancient villages and medieval ruins of great castles, such as the castles of Grottaferrata, perfectly preserved, the ancient villas of Frascati and the beautiful gardens of Castel Gandolfo. We also suggest the nature itineraries such as the the beautiful rivers of the Lake Nemi and Lake Albano.
