About Clayton Harris
I have 2 houses that we list on VRBO and this is what I do in semi-retirement. I enjoy the work. For most of my 28 year career in the oil and gas industry I worked out of a suitcase. Traveling America I have stayed in everything from a rooming house to boutique hotels. Over the years I have learned what makes lodging enjoyable and I believe this has helped in developing a model to afford people staying in a place that will be a positive memorable experience.
Clayton Harris purchased this House in 2009
Why Clayton Harris chose Allegheny-West
I fell in love with this house the moment I saw it. It was completely different than any house I have lived in before. Everything is within walking distance: parks, downtown, stadiums, you name it. Being a walking neighborhood, you will meet the best neighbors in the country. This is a neighborhood that is listed on the national registry of historic places. Across the street is Calvary UMS; famous for its' Tiffany stained glass. Gertrude Stein was born in the 800 block of Beech Ave. Mary Roberts Rinehart, the creator of the modern day suspense thriller wrote "The Spiral Staircase" 4 doors west of my house. Art Rooney, the founder of the Steelers lived in Allegheny West and his son Dan's family still lives there.
What makes this House unique
We are on a quiet street in the historic district of Pittsburgh. Very Victorian and a tightly knit community where the people are warm and friendly. This is one on the older gentrified neighborhoods, about 30 years old in that regard. People are proud to be here and Allegheny West is a very community oriented part of the City. We are a safe neighborhood. Police and fire are two blocks away. Our streets are well lit with plenty of foot traffic. This house is in a walking neighborhood. Often people who stay with us do not need to use their personal cars since downtown is walking distance from the house. Our public transportation is excellent. 4 blocks south of this house is the subway which is free to downtown. I have a membership to the 4 Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and my membership allows me to get up to 10 free tickets for guest who stay with us.

Clayton is wonderful with communication & hospitality. We have stayed here before and will return!
Lovely Victorian house well appointed and located. Host went out of his way.
Happy with all aspects. Good communication, lots of amenities and cool city.
Beautiful and comfortable.
Clayton is a wonderful host ... seeing to everything you could possibly need. Beautiful home on a quiet street within walking distance to restaurants, a park, museums and much more. Thank you Clayton!
Victorian, with comfort and location
Perfect location within walking distance of many points of interest in the city. Comfortable, in historical neighborhood, lots of good food within blocks. We met relatives there, and the house was great for all of us to visit in either the "sitting room," "parlor," or dining room. For a restored building, the bedrooms were very quiet - wonderful beds! Clayton was outstanding. He answered all our questions prior to arrival, even going beyond the norm with additional helpful information about the house and neighborhood. He gave us a personal tour of the gorgeous church across the street. As a member of one of the city's museums, he shared tickets for a day tour for all four of us. We've never experienced as much personal and helpful attention from a property manager. Thank you for making us feel right at home!
This house is beautiful! Lots of great details and very well stocked— much more than most rentals! 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths! Clayton is a great host— charming and very responsive! We would definitely stay again.
You are in the Allegheny West historical district. You will experience living in a walking neighborhood where restaurants, parks, museums, wedding venues and downtown are within an easy walk.
Allegheny West is a designated historic district neighborhood in Pittsburgh and I would suggest you check it out on Wikipedia. As with many cities, Allegheny West has a rich local history and the is proud to be one of the renewed neighborhoods.
We are a safe neighborhood. A few blocks away are the local fire department and police headquarters. About half a mile away is Allegheny General Hospital. Across the street is Calvary UMC church. St. Peters catholic church is 3 blocks way in West Park.
The house is detached so you are afforded some privacy.
The pictures in the house are real and current. We have been trying to lay the house out as a somewhat Victorian B and B.
We have updated our artist studio/storage area. We have dressed it up a bit and installed a king bed in the room.
