Beautiful and modern home!
My family had a wonderful and peaceful stay here- the house and it's views are spectacular. If you are looking for a place to re-charge and disconnect this is the place. Just be aware that while there are plenty of walks and hikes around - you are pretty far from most other places. Also although the kitchen is well equipped -just know that there are no basic condiments such as salt. Overall a wonderful week!
Gorgeous, Modern and Serene!
This place is even better than the photographs. It is one of the loveliest vacation rentals we have found to date and made us feel like we were in a magazine. The location is gorgeous and uncrowded even in July, and the house is huge and beautifully designed with abundant light, modern appliances including a full-size convection oven and an espresso machine, and amazing views from the wraparound deck. We were sad to leave. The host was responsive by email and very helpful. This was our first trip to Nova Scotia and we can't wait to return. The area is less populated than the south part of the island so there are no traffic issues, but there is enough to do in the vicinity to keep one busy. The town of Sherbrooke is small but charming with a grocery store, a gas station, a pharmacy, a historical village, several small casual restaurants and a smoked salmon establishment. There is also a casual lakeside restaurant not far from the house, a lighthouse with hiking trails and a basic but very affordable 9-hole golf course. I would highly recommend this place for someone who appreciates nature, enjoys having a glass of wine and cheese on the deck, likes cooking in an open kitchen, appreciates the variety of a coastal climate, is happy watching the fog roll in one moment and the sun shining the next, likes falling asleep listening to the sound of birds and waves, and wants to get away from it all but still prefers to be within 15-20 minutes of a town. The lack of Internet was not a problem. We got a strong signal with our ATT phones. Wonderful place! We never made it down to the swimming lake because the path was overgrown but we were perfectly happy anyway.
A truly beautiful, remote, ESCAPE:)
The house and property did not disappoint...it lived up to all of our expectations! It is incredibly clean, free of clutter, light filled, well stocked, and so so peaceful. It really feels like an escape from the everyday...and you really cant beat the large wrap around deck with ocean view. The bedroom has a small deck off of it. Sleeping with the sliding door open with sound of the ocean rolling in and waking in the morning with the sun was the absolute best. We also made good use of the kitchen, which is well stocked with oils/vinegars/spices, as I think we were there ahead of the tourist season and many restaurants were not open yet. There is a bookcase filled with maps, brochures, and other info about the surrounding areas which proved to be very helpful. (Insider tip...when looking for gas, we found Sherbrooke to be closest and very charming) We really relished the fact that there was no Wifi at the house and used it as a much needed opportunity to unplug, but found when we did need access to the internet that almost all cafes offered a free connection.
I highly recommend taking a walk to the beach..it is a short trail from the house that is covered with mosses, ferns, and the occasional deer and rabbit. Close by were the Liscomb River (and lodge which has a lovely patio to have lunch on) and Shipwreck Fury site which we really enjoyed. You can find information about these trails and more in a handy binder located in the book/map collection.
I really can't say enough about this place and I can't wait to go back. I have never felt so refreshed after a vacation!
Hier stimmt einfach alles!
The site is located on a peninsula on the Atlantic coast, very quiet, pure nature. Port Hilford lies on the coast road, 'Marine Drive Eastern Shore' half-way to Cap Britain. Just 10 minutes away is the Golf Club Red Hill, a 9-hole golf course with stunning views of the Indian Harbour Lake and very fair 'green fees' is (no membership required). 20 minutes away by car is the place Sherbrook, with the open-air museum Sherbrooke Village, it shows a typical village in the 18th / 19th Century with more than 30 historic buildings. Port Bickerton is a 10 minute drive away, in the old lighthouse there is detailed information about the lighthouses of Nova Scotia and as a hiking trail starts to Bickerton Lighthouse Beach Park with a beautiful beach. Exact details on how to get receive after booking.
