New in 2006, this cottage style home has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a total living area 2,400 sq. ft. Plenty of room to spread out. This house is truly designed with the family in mind, with separate spaces for the grown-ups and kids alike.

Vintage Mod, Baby! It's luxurious, with a retro feel - sure to evoke a flashback or two. The shag carpeting, custom ceramic tile, custom woodwork and a mix of retro antiques and custom furniture (not to mention a few surprises), will help make this a vacation to remember.

Located in Harbor Springs opposite Lake Michigan on the famous Tunnel of Trees - a top destination for bicyclists. You're close to such vacation spots as Petoskey, Charlevoix, Cross Village, The Inland Water Way and The Straits of Mackinaw.

Atop this 130' bluff, witness panoramic views that will allow you to see all the way to Charlevoix and on some days even Beaver Island! Enjoy these views from the home as well as from the meandering bluffside staircase with secluded sun deck that leads to the very private sandy frontage* (see notes) on Lake Michigan. Reminiscent of America's Pacific Northwest, you can walk for miles up and down without seeing a single person!* (see notes)

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful week at The Surf Cottage. The house is perfect for kids & adults. The beach was pure heaven on Earth. The waves were huge. We even saw some surfers. We had such fun swimming, tanning, biking, and of course eating! We had great campfires by the beach. The most fun was the pancake competition. (Mocha, pb & banana, s'more, egg & bacon, apple graham, chocolate pretzel). All good!

Outstanding house! Plenty of room for 14 people to spread out and sleep. Kids said the futons were very comfortable The video games and the pool table were a big hit with the kids. We adults love the view of the Lake out the many front windows. Close to ski areas. Pet friendly - my Golden would love to live there! Owners are very easy to work with. Hope to visit again!!

Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend in this house. The house was as described, spacious and clean, with 3 levels of living space perfect for three generations. The bedroom on the entry level was perfect for our young adult.

The views of Lake Michigan were beautiful and so was the wildlife around the house.

After two days of skiing and enjoying the family were are now back at work still thinking of the good time that we had there.

We decided on Wednesday to do this and the people in charge made it possible that it worked out at such short notice.

Nice Area

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks and had a few issues. We contacted the owner and they have fixed all of them. They are great! I took off one star since they had to be fixed after we arrived. They came and moved the rocks we had isssue with in the water. They replaced the shades and put in new curtains in the bedrooms. They also told the cleaning crew to come later on our behalf so we could sleep in. We stayed two weeks so they had to come in the middle. They made sure the lawn guys came later in the day as well. Wow, are they great owners. They even said they might think about putting in a king size bed in the master upstairs, since there is room, and getting new linens and blanklets for the beds. Check the vents in the upstairs, if they are not open it gets toasty. Also, fourth bedroom is an office on first floor, just so you know.

The area is supreme. The house was spotless. The TV is very nice as was reception. Kitchen has lots of room and the house is nice and bright. We had a good time and wish all the owners in the big lake were this good.

Owner's Response: Glad your stay was enjoyable, you are welcome back anytime! Just one comment if I could so there is no confusion to any future renters. The mainfloor bedroom is not an office (There is no office furniture, computer, dusty fax machine, etc..), it is merely a bedroom without a closet. It has a queen bed, two night stands, dresser, and two lamps. Hope this helps!

Peaceful and Scenic

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 stayed one week at the "Surf Cottage" this past summer. We didn't want to leave!! The home is so peaceful it's almost dreamy. We could tell it was going to be a relaxing stay when we first pulled into the home. The house is situated on a road that really seemed like more of a big bike path than road. Very peaceful and the views were spectacular. The inside of the home looks like something from a 60's home decorating magazine. There were videos, magazines and old records for us to enjoy. We spent our evenings listening to the turntable and watching The Avengers (I now have to get that series on DVD!) :) I even once used the 60's cookbook in the kitchen. The home was also very clean and well maintained. It's the kind of clean that makes you want to take your shoes off and feel comfortable doing so. I spoke twice to the manager when booking and once before leaving. She was very helpful. During our short stay, we went to Mackinac Island once and the city twice. We had a two fires on the beach and though the beach is long, we never saw another person on it. We were even lucky enough to catch a thunderstorm. We could hear it rumbling from Wisconsin (I think) and over Lake Michigan. It was majestic and big sounding. There is a book in the home with maps that detail things to do and places to eat. We tried two of the restaurants in Petoskey and they were both REALLY good. One was called Julliene Tomatoes and the other was an Asian restaurant (can't remember the name.) I think our favorite restaurant was Legs Inn in Good Heart. It's a polish restaurant on a large bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. One of the nice surprises about the home is that it has two living rooms. The kids were able to play and watch TV in the one with the pool table and my husband and I could watch The Avengers (I will get that series!) in the other. That wasn't something we thought about when we booked the home, but we now know it's almost a requirement with the age range of our kids. There was also a firepit in the backyard (which we didn't use) and a swingset (which the kids did use). We all had room to spread out, yet enjoy each other. Anyway, we are so happy to have found this home. We are definitely coming back and would recommend it to our friends.

Warm, Welcoming & CLEAN

  • 5 of 5

The house is AMAZING! It was the cleanest and coziest house we have rented.

We had a large group of 12 people and had more than enough room. We loved that we could bring our four-legged family members as well! The property was beautiful; we fully enjoyed walking through the back woods. It was such a treat to see Lake Michigan in the winter and walk down the stairs to be on the snow covered beach.

We will definitely rent from the Blue Lakes Vacation Rentals properties again…

Everything was as described. Actually it was better. The pics didn't do the home justice! The views were gorgeous, the home immaculate, the area wonderful. We will definitely come back.

* Lake level changes and storms, can greatly effect the size and makeup of this lake Michigan shoreline. In average lake level conditions the shoreline is a mix of sand and rocks with a sandy strip of beach that goes for miles up the coast. When entering the water there is usually rocks about 20' or so then all sand. In high level years, much of this sandy strip can disappear exposing underlying rocks. In these conditions, when entering water it is usually ALL sand. Click on Owners website link then go to Photo page for more details. This is the nature of the Lake Michigan coast, and can not be controlled. These are the two extremes we have observed. Its impossible to predict. Shoreline conditions can change dramatically in just a few months time, but regardless of the makeup of the shore it is always beautiful!
