has three beautiful cottages:
THE PATIO and THE GARDEN (see #508989)
has been in the Hall family for over 60 years, and is currently owned and operated by Myrtle Hall. Myrtle is German-born and moved to Indian Rocks Beach in 2000 when she married her late husband, Ned. Ned’s grandmother bought the Indian Rocks Beach property in 1946. Ned's father George Hall built the first, two-story building in 1952. The one-story Gulf Cottage followed in 1972. Ned's family lived here in the winter, and spent the summer in Ithaca, NY, where his father was the Golf Coach at Cornell University for over 40 years. Ned followed in his footsteps as a PGA Teaching Professional for over 25 years. He was teaching at the Clearwater Golf Club located in Clearwater, Florida when Myrtle, in Florida on holiday from Germany, met him in 1998. Myrtle and Ned, of course, had their wedding right in front of beautiful Sandy Shores!
Like Ned, Myrtle fell in love with this beautiful property and its rich family history. Ned and Myrtle started to rent out their cottages in 2005 after a complete beautification and enjoyed every minute of sharing this lovely property with their guests. Myrtle carries on the Hall family tradition of hospitality at Sandy Shores and adds her special brand of German warmth. Her attention to detail and cleanliness makes Sandy Shores a unique and charming retreat.
Surf, sand and sun, coupled with quiet solitude, magnificent sunsets, and the shade of the Australian Pines make this the perfect getaway spot. You will enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the world - perfect for a morning stroll or an afternoon shelling expedition, as well as beautiful-maintained accommodations. Sandy Shores is a slice of Old Florida at it's very finest.

Sandy Shores has been in my late husband, Ned's, family for over 60 years. Ned's Grandmother bought it in 1946 and his Father built the first two story building in 1952 and the Gulf Cottage followed in 1972.
I live onsite so I am available during your stay. I've also worked for 12 years in a local bank. One of the things my guests repeatedly tell me, is that they can see my love for Sandy Shores in the cleanliness and beauty of the property. I take pride in knowing my attention to detail ensures my guests have the most comfortable stay. And, for my German visitors, I enjoy speaking German to help you feel at home.
Myrtle Hall purchased this cottage in 1946
We started to rent out our cottages in 2005 after a total beautification and enjoying ever since every minute of sharing this lovely property with all our guests.
Rest in our secluded gardens, enjoy the shade under our beautiful Australian Pine Trees and watch the Gulf of Mexico and the fantastic sunsets from your living room and dining area. You can't get any closer to the dunes and beach.
Three of us (childhood friends/sisters) stayed in the Gulf Cottage for 4 wonderful nights. Myrtle and Abby greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the cottage and property. Myrtle's property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful, and all within steps to the beach. Being in the Gulf Cottage, we were able to see the water as soon as we got up in the morning. The gardens were so pretty and quaint, and although the cottages are close because it's a small property, the gardens and paths gave us perfect privacy. Each cottage had its own private seating area and garden. There is a laundry room, storage room with beach chairs and umbrellas to use, outdoor shower to wash sand off our feet, and even a hidden clothes line to hang wet clothing or towels if desired. The Gulf Cottage was just perfect. Myrtle has high quality bath towels, beach towels, bedding, furniture, etc., and there is really nothing we lacked. It was spotless and completely comfortable. Sometimes it's hard to sleep when in a strange place... but not here. We slept soundly. The kitchen was fully stocked, right down to the coolest silverware we ever saw. We had purchased some groceries at Walmart before crossing the bridge into IRB, were able to cook breakfasts and lunches in, and could have gone the entire time without using the rental car. I had been struggling with a health issue and found a walk-in clinic not too far on the other side of the bridge.. just in case anyone needs that information. That was the only reason for using the car. Otherwise, we sat on the beach or walked up and down the beach during the day, watched the sun set every evening, and would then get ready to walk to the restaurant of our choice for dinner. There are several great places to eat; all different, and all within a short walk. We loved Lulu's, Slyce and Crabby Bill's. There was a CVS too with very reasonable prices. Myrtle was very nice and was available for anything we might have needed. This getaway to Sandy Shores was just what my friends and I needed; we felt completely at rest during our stay. Myrtle, we thank you for opening your beautiful cottage to us, and hope that at least one of us gets to return one day soon!!
We stayed in the Gulf Cottage, arriving Thanksgiving evening. Mrytle and Abby met us upon our arrival and showed us the home and the property. The cottage exceeded my expectations with cleanliness. We found everything we could have possibly needed. We could hear the ocean from our cottage where I would have my morning coffee. We spent our mornings walking the shoreline collecting sea shells and our afternoons playing on the beach. The sunsets are breathtaking as well. Our two children we had with are 6 & 7 and they had the best time as well. Thank you, Mrytle, for a wonderful stay. We will be back!
When we arrived at Sandy Shores, Myrtle (and her sweet dog Abbey) were waiting to greet us and show us around her very private and beautiful property. We parked in front of the yellow two story building right on Gulf Rd. This is where the Garden Cottage and Patio Cottage are located. The Gulf Cottage that we booked is a stand alone building with a view of the dunes, beach and gulf. (When we first entered the courtyard area of Sandy Shores, it felt like we were walking into a secret garden!)
As we toured her property, we received basic housekeeping guidelines of the cottage, locations of the laundry room, clothesline, outdoor shower, beach supplies storage room, gas grill, garbage/recycling containers, and various sitting areas scattered throughout the property. Last but not least, Myrtle then pointed out the short walk on her private property path through the dunes to reach the beach. We spent a lot of time at that beach enjoying the sun, water, shelling, walking, beautiful sunsets, and just relaxing! It was so nice of Myrtle to provide beach chairs, an umbrella, beach towels, etc...
Our cottage was immaculate! We had a fully stocked kitchen, the rooms were good sized and anything we needed was supplied including bath towels, toilet paper, paper towels, blankets, pillows, linens, wifi, cable, etc... The porch was the perfect place to sort through our shells and enjoy the beauty of her tropical gardens. When we weren't on the beach we found the cottage quite peaceful and very comfortable.
There is a Publix just minutes away, so buying groceries to eat most of our meals at home was convenient. When we did go out to eat, we found Myrtle's property was within walking distance to many places in Indian Rocks Beach including Slyce Pizza (which has an amazing garden salad and pizza) and our favorite restaurant Crabby Bills (where we enjoyed our first stone crab claws - delicious!)
Sandy Shores is private, clean, well equipped, convenient to town, close to the beach, and Myrtle does an incredible job maintaining the property. It is obvious how much she loves this beautiful family home and the treasured memories of her husband she shared it with. Myrtle was wonderful to work with and the communication before our trip, during our stay and after we left for home was great! We really had such a good time at Sandy Shores and hated to leave! We are definitely looking forward to our next stay!!!
Just returned from our 5 day vacation in Gulf Cottage at Sandy Shores. It's like your own home in paradise. Beautiful in all directions. Great places for sitting, walking, and relaxing. Even had a wonderful massage(ask Myrtle about). Of course so close to beach you can hear the waves. Can't wait to go back! Kay and Dennis
My husband and I stayed in the Gulf Cottage for six nights, and Myrtle had equipped it with everything we could have desired. The beach towels were thick and oversized. (I mention the towels in particular, because we used them ALOT)!! The landscaping is amazing, and provides privacy in the various seating areas. The sandy path that leads to the beach, goes through dunes, then opens up to the wide expanse of beach and ocean. Truly beautiful! We have stayed at beach-front facilities in the past, but Sandy Shores is our new vacation get-a-way!! Terri and Rodger
I was looking forward to staying somewhere that was going to be "on the beach", but was not expecting this property to be like a micro tropical paradise. I stayed in the cottage house which was spacious, very clean and equipped with everything you might need for a beach vacation. The property landscaping is gorgeous!!! Everywhere you look there is a place to kick your feet up and relax among beautiful plants and foliage. There were times it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves as it isn't crowded like so many other tourist beach locations. Each day we were surprised with visits from dolphins. The property is conveniently located within walking distance of exceptional eating choices, shopping and home made ice cream so our tummies weren't denied a weeks worth of delight either. It was nice to have the property owner nearby that was available for anything we might have needed. Myrtle and her sidekick Abby were always available should we need anything and were such gracious hosts. I will be back for certain as my get away experience was more than any I've ever had.
