History of the building

Our mill was built of hewn stone and partly up to 1.20 m thick walls on behalf of a landowner, 1862, it also leaves the incised year on one of the ceiling beams close the upper floor. Thanks to the water and forest wealth il molino was used as a grain mill and supplied the small village of Pieve di Chio with baked goods. To this was dammed in June the water on the side of the pergola in a ditch and thus operated as needed the mill. Unfortunately, there is to be seen in the bath only the filler neck of the grain from the upper great room down from the ceiling. An interesting impression of that time are the stone engraving in the kitchen again. This has made about his memories of those days by local artist and sculptor Alberto Bruni. After use as a mill il molino inhabited and used by small farmers, without running water and electricity! Further up the slope was. a profitable by a source olive grove planted with vegetables on the terraces. Unfortunately, in 1984 froze our olives in an indescribably cold winter.

In 1963, the property was abandoned in the wake of the great rural exodus. Like many other farms in the area it stood empty. When we purchased it in 1980, we found a good building and have since the mill as faithfully renovated in often laborious work: original terracotta floors, traditional beamed ceilings, open fireplace and a centuries-old stone basin were obtained. So il molino was expanded to the current standard without losing the charm of a "casa colonica" clothing. From 1983- 1990 we were living permanently in il molino and in 1988 our daughter Marion came in Poggibonsi to the world.

The mill still include about 2 hectares of land.

History of the Val di Chio

The wonderful green valley "Val di Chio" in which our mill is located, extends over a length of about 7 km and a width of about 3 km, and 25 km south of today's regional capital of Arezzo., Formerly an important ancient Etruscan city ,

His fertile plain cultivated with maize, sunflower, corn, wine and vegetables is surrounded by hills up to 1000 m altitude. These give the valley the lush green because they are heavily forested with oak, chestnut, cypress and olive trees: a paradise for walkers cyclists, mushroom pickers, painter .. that begins right outside our front door.

The Val di Chio introduced already in Etruscan times v (from 3000. Chr.) An important link between the Tiber and Arezzo are.

As early as the Bronze Age there was a brisk trade from and toward the Adriatic Sea. Later, watchtowers and fortresses were built to protect along this important trade route.

Benefiting from the great wealth of many water sources had the valley later and even today a great significance for pilgrims and pilgrims.

At the sources originated churches, monasteries and accommodations. Even today you can find 30 churches in the Val di Chio.

Our village church of Santa Maria in Pieve di Chio was first mentioned in 1064.

From the 14th century. Century also used a wealth of water for hydraulic mills that grind corn, wheat and olives.

In 1564, 22 mills were already registered in our valley.

Therefore he called the road along the valley today, "Street of ancient mills".

Lovely house, lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

The title says it all! It is a lovely house and very well equipped with just about everything you could need. Everything worked as it was meant to (even the plumbing) and was very clean for our arrival. The location in the valley is beautiful. There are so many places of interest to visit within easy reach plus so many things to do in the local area that you could holiday here many times and never tire of it. You can have seclusion, peace and quiet, or be very busy. We did some of each. Our shopping trips to Castiglion were always enjoyable, almost without exception everybody we met was friendly and helpful. As were the people we met when walking around Pieve di Chio.

A real gem and incredible value for money.

Ort zum Auftanken

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 4 of 5

  • 4 of 5

The lovingly restored former mill 'il molino' enjoys a picturesque and quiet in southern Tuscany, just 300 meters from the village 'Pieve di Chio' away. It is completely quiet in a secluded location on the edge of the forest to two sexy streams. A covered pergola (40 m²) with sun lounger, rolling chairs, table tennis, foosball table, etc. and a large garden with adjacent forest invite to rest, walking and mushroom picking one.

Only 1 km you will find a bar, a supermarket and a great restaurant. In the 5 km away Etruscan town of Castiglion Fiorentino you will find everything you need; Pharmacy, doctors, hospitals, supermarkets and banks, weekly market, tennis ..

The beautiful old town with its narrow streets and large city gates, and its bars, Disotheken, shopping and fine restaurants invite you to linger.

In our green valley Val di Chio you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. There is also a Fitness trail through the midst of the valley, near many swimming pools, Lake Trasimeno (20 km), tennis and soccer fields and many cycling routes (2 bikes at the house).
