Spacious One Bedroom Close To Downtown And UC Berkeley
About Terri Giamartino
I am a small business owner living in Berkeley for the last 35 years. I am an avid martial artist and have owned a martial arts studio since 1993. I love the outdoors, gardening, cooking and art. I love to travel, and entertain and can show you the all the nooks and crannies you might not find on your own. Staying at our home will not disappoint! We are a household of 4. Our boys are college age one still living at home and working. We are busy professionals and aren't always around, but one of us works frequently in the garden, so we are around using the yard. There is plenty of space for privacy and also opportunities to socialize some if it is preferred.

Why Terri Giamartino chose Central Berkeley
We Love the absolute convenience of where we live. Having been here for over 30 years, we know the city well and can certainly direct you to places of interest. We walk to most restaurants, movies and theater.

Charming little cottage!
The neat little cottage had everything we could have asked for, including a super comfortable bed! The flowering landscaping was so pleasant, with a heavily bearing lemon tree growing right outside the window. Our host encouraged us to "fill up our suitcases and take some home"!
Tons of towels, two fresh lemons in the fridge, a little coffee maker, complete with a bit of coffee to get us started, a laundry in the room next to the cottage, shampoo, conditioner and body wash awaiting us in the shower, all made us feel at home.
Clean, comfortable, and easy to check in and out. I was having knee problems, so no steps or inclines to tackle was a definite plus. This one was a winner for us.
When we return, we will stay again here again.
We had a lovely time staying at this place, which was clean, quiet, and conveniently located near the university and many shops and restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the gardens and used the tables and chairs to eat and take in the view. We also helped ourselves to apples, figs, and limes growing there – hope that was okay. The downtown BART station was a few blocks away. One of the days we took BART into the city to tour the museums and meet friends there. Terri was kind enough to provide us with a parking pass so that we could leave our rental car on the street that day. We would welcome the opportunity to stay there again. Many thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. We do our best to provide a home away from home just like we enjoy when we travel. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and welcome you back anytime you are in our area!
Excellent location, convenient to transportation, could be improved
The apartment is excellently situated in Berkeley, convenient to Trader Joe’s and a BART station. It is also close to the Berkeley campus, if that is of interest (we came to attend a graduation). The apartment could be improved in certain details, which I will write privately to the host, because these are pretty simple things. On the other hand, there are some matters that are not at all easy to change, and those I think future guests should be aware. There is noise from the unit above, sometimes rather loud, not because whoever was there was doing anything wrong, but walking causes a creaking and thumping sound, and the plumbing pipes that run right through the bathroom on this bottom unit make very loud noises, so that one day shortly after my arrival , when I was in need of some sleep, I was awakened by them before 6 am. For some reason unknown to me the bedroom door was removed. Though this wasn’t much of a problem for us, if one person wants to sleep and one wants to watch TV, it could be a problem. The kitchen has all the appliances you might need (including several I didn’t use at all). It is good that there is a washer and dryer. Overall, the apartment is functional, but not luxurious at all.
I am sorry you experienced noise from the upstairs people. They did have children and were only there for part of your stay.
The door to the bedroom was removed to make more space. Since it is a one bedroom, we did not see this as a problem.
As far as amenities go, it is not a luxury apartment. It is a comfortable, fully functional apartment. Sometime people expect a 5 star hotel for a 3 star price. We try to keep the price down and provide an adequate and comfortable stay for travellers, similar to places we stay in when we travel. If you are willing to pay more, you can find more luxurious accomodations. Nevertheless, we hope you enjoyed your stay overall.
The property is basic. No frills but fine.
Simple furnishings. Clean. Soft sofa. Soft bed. Excellent shower. Well-stocked kitchen. Appropriate for the modest price.
My husband and I came for a visit to see our son and daughter-in-law. The neighborhood is charming. Terri was wonderful and I had no doubt it would be a smooth arrival and stay. The house is big (as compared to some places we've stayed) and the fact that there is a separate bedroom is a big plus. We hope to stay here again. I highly recommend it. Close to everything in Berkeley that you'd want to see.
Clean, private, excellent location within walking distance of BART, UC-Berkeley, restaurants, shops
This property is very clean and quiet and has all of the conveniences of being at home "away from home". Having access to a washer/dryer was great. Easy to walk to BART, quite near Shattuck Avenue which has restaurants, shops, grocery stores, anything you need while on vacation. Walking distance to UC-Berkeley which was a plus for us as we were visiting our son.
There is no parking available if you have a rental car, but we were able to secure on-street parking for the couple of days we had a car rented. You just have to be aware of the on-street parking restrictions and read the signs.
There is a unit above the unit we stayed in and at times the occupants above were a little noisy but overall I would highly recommend this property. Owners very personable!
