Wonderful time at Rippling River!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Rippling River cabin. It was plenty of space for an extended family, and the river access was great for canoeing. The property could use a little deep cleaning (especially in the bathrooms and dusting around the house) but it was comfortable and cozy - even during a thunderstorm. We really appreciated all the extra amenities in the kitchen. Everything from grilling utensils to plastic baggies to salt and pepper is provided. Overall, a great stay!
Nice house and yard.
We enjoyed our stay at Rippling River. The beds were comfortable and the decor very nice. We could see and hear the river from the deck. The scenery was beautiful. I would have given an overall 5 rating if there was a canoe for guests to use. The fishing wasn't very good in front of the house because there were too many rocks and rapids but a little down stream looked deeper. A very nice place to stay.
Rejuvenation at Ripling River
The photos of the cabin and location don’t do it justice. The cabin was very clean. The property was gorgeous, with the river backing up almost right to the fire pit. We didn’t have any trouble getting in and out of the river - definitely get a pair of water shoes! We cannot wait to come back. Thank you for the relaxing vacation we needed!
Nice, but TLC needed. Disappointing.
Nice cabin, but needed a lot of TLC. The cabin was listed as having AC, but unfortunately due to lack of care and maintenance the Air Conditioning broke down twice during our stay. The first time the AC repair man came bright and early and was able to get it started. He said the unit was filthy because the owners clearly never do routine maintenance. We watched him clean wads of dirt from the unit. That very next night it broke down again. This time no one was coming to make a repair until "sometime after lunch". It might have been tolerable not to have AC, EXCEPT that every single window in the cabin was broken and unable to be opened. All the hardware on the windows were completely broken. God forbid a fire, we would not have been able to escape. We were originally booked to stay through July 5th, but we decided to cut our trip short and pack our bags 2 days early since it was already 85 degrees in the house at 10 Am. We were asked to clean all the bathrooms and the kitchen before we left, because they did not have a cleaning service. We were concerned that if it got much hotter in the house we would be physically unable to pack up and do all the cleaning that was required before we left.
We requested 3 nights reimbursement for our stay, two for the nights that we cut our vacation short and 1 for two of the horrible nights we spent without AC, and not being able to open the windows. We realize things happen and we are not mad, but what is fair is fair. If the owners had completed the proper maintenance on the AC and at the very least made the repairs on the windows , we would not have had to leave early. But because of their negligence, our vacation was cut short. The owner has still not responded to our emails and correspondence 10 days after we checked out. The property manager was excellent, but there is only so much she can do. The cabin has potential, but unfortunately is in need of a ton of repairs.
Also as a recommendation, if you decide to stay and want to cook your own meals, bring a frying pan and a couple of pots. Much of the cookware was scratched, burned and not really usable.
Beautiful location on the river. Lots of potential. Unfortunate turn of events with no accountability from owner. Disappointing.
We are disappointed to hear that your visit was not consistent with all of our previous guests. We make every effort to create a welcoming, family-friendly environment at our cabin. Unexpected things do happen, unfortunately, and our property manager acted promptly and appropriately to repair the AC. The AC is regularly serviced — so, we are perplexed by your comments about the condition of the unit as these are not what were relayed to us by the two vendors who addressed the issue. In fact, this is the first less than glowing review we have ever received about our home. All of our guests love this retreat and the care that has gone into making this a wonderful Shenandoah River oasis for their entire family. The majority of our guests are repeat visitors. We are grateful for them and the way they treat our home as their own.
We had a great stay at the Rippling River Cabin. The house is comfortable and well stocked. The location is great. Our dog loved the great big yard. We had fun tubing on the river. The only downside is it was a little difficult to get down to and in the river. It would be nice if there were some steps. I would definitely stay there again.
It could be better. That broken glass on the riverfront is an issue, as is the poison ivy, and other reviews implying easy access to the river must be people with more agility and strength than than us old gals. It isn’t exactly easy, it is steep and has roots and broken glass. I cut my toe on the glass, despite paying attention to the ground beneath me, 9 days later, I’m still working on healing it. Yes, the description says “if you use the river, wear shoes”. But when I cut my foot I was only using the ground, not the river.
It feels tacky to me to be asked to clean house, when several items that I handled were dust covered. I got no problem leaving a place clean as I found it, and it would be more professional of the owners to just say that, rather than spell out over numerous platforms how to clean the house before you leave.
The phone service was : ACK. Two of us had no cell service, but what was worse was the land line had no service. No ability for long distance, I’m not a snowflake, but I needed to talk to home, and was completely unable to on this system or cellular service.
The owners never answered a message I left on their phone machine regarding a loud gurgling noise from the laundry area off the kitchen. My friend that was able to get service texted with them and got abbreviated responses.-not everyone is chatty, I get that. But what we got was “water conditioner , loud” .
I am a novice with these services, but I think if these owners want a five star, they should clean the beach and the house, and gather as much info as possible on the ability to communicate, and let their guests know how it is.
