Near to Greetsiel you have the sea lapping at your door.

This is an old 1896 farm near to Greetsiel. It was a ruin that may well have been destroyed in a few years time. We have completely revived the house. It is currently a paradise for those who want to spend their holidays in high quality conditions. The barn-conversion apartment measures 135 sq.m. Where once there was a pigsty, there is now a comfortable bedroom. Although we have preserved many original features. Around the barn-conversion you will find a warm living room with a dining area in front of the stable door. Direct your gaze to the gallery where, for example, is the office that could be an ideal place to work for someone who wants to set up their PC. The second open bedroom can also be found on this floor. Remote control activates the scenes that bring the impressive open wooden ceiling beams to life. The apartment has central heating thanks to underfloor heating and a Franklin-style chimney.

There are duck footprints in the stone floor. In Vorderhuus, where a farmer and his family once lived, there is a charming 85 sq.m holiday rental for a maximum of 3 people. It brings together the cosy comfortable kitchen and living room. The central piece is the 200 year old heated column oven that is still in perfect working order. From the kitchen there are spectacular views over the farmland confines of West Friesland. There is also the so-called Butzenzimmer on the ground floor. This was a room where once daily life was played out; cooking, eating and drinking. We have restored the antique Butzenbett ('sleep in a closet'). The floor is original but now also boasts underfloor heating. In the rest of the house, the old bricks have been kept, dried out in the open air - with clear animal prints where many paws have trodden, in the many years that it took to dry the brick. The first floor bedroom is a sight to behold. In short, a stunning unique design.

Hand painted azulejos (tiles) and a household frog. In both apartments there are hand painted azulejos in the kitchen and bathrooms. They not only show historic scenes, but modern images are there too. In the spacious bathroom of the front house an example of these can be seen in the fish 'tapestry' made out of tiles. As always, the overall design of the apartments is one of a kind. The impressive structure of the expansive roof of the stables accommodation can also be brightened by way of remote control. The apartments both have al fresco terraces with tables, chairs, hammocks and sun loungers. The terrace of the barn-conversion is next to a pond with brightly coloured fish in an old 'dunghill'; a pool of water that has been transformed into a water garden. This is just as attractive as the ornate wooden cover for the canal that winds through the property. On entering the canal you can introduce yourself to Gustavo, the happy frog who lives with us - with his quarters in the canal.

No-one should go hungry. This old country house can be found in the small town of Forlitz Blaukirchen in Frisia, 25 km for the famous tourist fishing harbour of Greetsiel. The contrast between the two is staggering: Greetsiel is tourist heartland; for those seeking peace and quiet it is perhaps a bit too busy. Our guests will find relaxation in Floritz-Blaukirchen not far away from Greetsiel. Floritz-Blaukirchen has close to 200 rooms, no restaurants or shops, only serene landscapes; simply relaxation. In the winter deer might suddenly appear on the terrace. The heron is a daily visitor. But you won't go hungry. Or ever need to go hunting. All the amenities are available in the nearby town, 6 km away. It is easily accessible by car or a comfortable cycle. Of course, bicycles are available for free!

  • Previously the daily sanitary requirements were done in such a way that would be inconceivable hoy. There was only one squatting toilet in the house for the whole family, which is at the far end of the stables. Everything from there went directly into the pond. There was no running water. When one could not hold on any longer you had to relieve yourself amongst the animals. Now there is a modern guest WC in place of the squatting toilet with a door decorated with a small heart...as it once was. The spacious bathroom with shower is situated where there once was a stable for young cattle.

  • The barn-conversion apartment offers space for 4. If you have ever wanted to sleep in a former pigsty here you can do it. But do so in style. Pigs would not feel too at home there today! Equally they now only make up a decorative element. Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor. Anther bed is available on the mezzanine floor - unique due to the fact that the bedroom is open and not overlooked from the surrounding ground floor. You might have to get used to it, but it will be spectacular. Above there is the magnificent roof preserved form the old house which can be adjusted to suit the light in different tones. The lights have their own remote control. So you can watch a light show above your own bed before settling down for the night. It is expansive. Here you will have an unforgettable holiday.
