Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This romantic cottage located on historic 'Ark Row', has a quiet, peaceful setting with a lovely view across the bay. The cottage itself is located in town on its own private dock over the water. It is not 'near' the water, nor does it simply have a 'view of' the water. Drop a pebble a the dock and is splashes into the water. Read or write, dine or observe a parade of maritime life: sailboats, diving Pelicans, and curious seals. Though ten minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge and 15 minutes to downtown San Francisco, you will be in your own secluded world.

Throughout Marin County there are fabulous biking and hiking trails with kayak and boat rentals available in Sausalito. The mini environment of maritime Sausaiito has long been recognized as the most temperate weather in the Bay Area - cool in summer and characteristically fog free most of the year.

Available for long or short term rental, historic waterfront ' ARK' (House on a dock.)

About Marion Slater

I have owned the cottage for more than 40 years, it was originally a boat house owned by a captain of a fishing boat. I had always admired the property for its location on the water, when it was offered for sale I was happy to buy it, have been glad I did.

Marion Slater purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Marion Slater chose The Bay Area

Once you see the cottage you will see what a lot it has to offer in its location, close to everything people come to Sausalito for, the lovely view, access to San Francisco and the wine country.

What makes this cottage unique

For guests interested in kayaking or boating in general, there could not be a better place than the San Francisco Bay. Here in Sausalito every possible type of sailing, sailboarding, boating is available. Some of the best restaurants, coffee shops and cafes nearby.

Excellent Location for a San Francisco vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house is perfect for 2 people, right on the water. Sausalito is quiet but you are only a 30 minute ferry ride to Fisherman's wharf. The owner was responsive to our questions and very helpful. We would stay there again.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the "Cottage by the Bay"! The size and location were just perfect for us. We can't wait to return. It was spotlessly clean and everything about the cottage exceeded our expectations! Our host, Marion, is also delightful!

Perfect cottage right on the Bay

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect, so clean, plenty of towels which is a real plus as far as I'm concerned, and awesome views of the bay and a very comfortable queen size bed. Now it is a one room cottage but does have a very roomy bathroom with great water pressure and would be very comfortable for two people. Since I was by myself I couldn't have asked for more. You're right on the bay right at Sausalito marina. You park your car right in front and basically don't need it until you drive home or to Mollie Stone's Market for any groceries you may need which is minutes away. If you do plan on doing some cooking (small meals) the cottage does have a four burner cooktop, mini frig and small microwave so I also brought a small ice chest along. You walk all over town with so many shops and restaurants to choose from. To one side of the cottage, a couple doors down, is Bar Bocci with food, bar and great service and it has a Bocci Ball court, next door to that was Salito's Seafood then on the other side of the cottage is Seafood Peddler and an Italian restaurant and right across the street is Cibo Coffee house with pastries, specialty coffees, breakfast and lunch items. You have so many places to eat all within walking distance it was great. Now Bar Bocci can get a little loud since you are so close but usually quieted down by 9/9:30 p.m. or so and the noise did not bother me as I was sitting out on the deck. Sea birds and seals right off your private deck of which you have two seating areas. The Golden Gate Bridge is just 10 minutes away. You couldn't ask for more and I will be back. The owner, Marion, was wonderful. Thank you Marion for a perfectly long, relaxing weekend.

Great Location!

  • 4 of 5

This houseboat on piling cottage is at a great spot. The east deck is perfect for watching the sunrise over the marina with sea lions checking out everything. The bird life is spectacular - but don't feed them! My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the ceiling and door frames are too low for someone 6'4". Despite that, due to proximity to SF and the GG Bridge and delightful Marion Slater, we will return.

Owner's Response: These guests were very nice people, I gave them 5 stars. The man was exceptionally tall at 6ft 4in, the doorway measures 6 ft, the ceiling 8ft, has not been a concern of other guests.

Pleasant, small unit right on the water.

  • 5 of 5

We found this to be ideal for our stay. It is on the water, with a very short walk to what Sausalito has to offer. We are very familiar with the area, so do not need the services of a hotel.

We would definitely stay here again, except next time we want it to be a longer stay.
