Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This romantic cottage located on historic 'Ark Row', has a quiet, peaceful setting with a lovely view across the bay. The cottage itself is located in town on its own private dock over the water. It is not 'near' the water, nor does it simply have a 'view of' the water. Drop a pebble a the dock and is splashes into the water. Read or write, dine or observe a parade of maritime life: sailboats, diving Pelicans, and curious seals. Though ten minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge and 15 minutes to downtown San Francisco, you will be in your own secluded world.

Throughout Marin County there are fabulous biking and hiking trails with kayak and boat rentals available in Sausalito. The mini environment of maritime Sausaiito has long been recognized as the most temperate weather in the Bay Area - cool in summer and characteristically fog free most of the year.

Available for long or short term rental, historic waterfront ' ARK' (House on a dock.)

Discounts by the MONTH $185 / NIGHT

About Marion Slater

I have owned the cottage for more than 40 years, it was originally a boat house owned by a captain of a fishing boat. I had always admired the property for its location on the water, when it was offered for sale I was happy to buy it, have been glad I did.

Marion Slater purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Marion Slater chose Sausalito

Once you see the cottage you will see what a lot it has to offer in its location, close to everything people come to Sausalito for, the lovely view, access to San Francisco and the wine country.

What makes this cottage unique

For guests interested in kayaking or boating in general, there could not be a better place than the San Francisco Bay. Here in Sausalito every possible type of sailing, sailboarding, boating is available. Some of the best restaurants, coffee shops and cafes nearby.

Awesome waterfront bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed the location and quietness. Located near markets, restaurants and just outside the main drag, so not a lot of tourists. We did not have a car and relied on the ferry to go to SF. The ferry and town are a short walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

Sausalito Annual Trip

  • 4 of 5

We've vacationed in Sausalito four years now for the annual art festival and have always had a great time. This is the first year we decided to stay somewhere different and tried Marian's Cottage by the Bay. It was very cute, clean and had everything we needed, however the weather was so blasted hot even the fans did little to keep us cool so we cut our trip short. The setting is perfect for relaxing on the deck in the morning with our coffee and in the evening with our wine. The location is perfect for both walking to the festival and shops/restaurants. Plus having a dedicated parking place makes it so much easier to come and go and not feel obligated to leave the car in one place for fear of not having a place to park upon returning. Marian is a delight. The only negative, we did have an issue with a lot of little ants at the front door but hopefully we took care of them.

Nice little place for two on the water

  • 4 of 5

Pros: Comfortable for 1-2 people, quiet at night, excellent location with a 5 min (or less) walk to lots of small shops, good restaurants, the ferry service to San Fran or just to ogle the yachts and there is also free parking in front of the unit. Kitchen is equipped enough to do breakfast and/or light snacks. View from the deck is mostly of the boat docks with Tiburon and Angel Island in the background.

Cons: Very limited TV stations, bathroom needs an exhaust fan, wear sandals or something when walking on the deck (a number of nail / screw heads sticking up), toaster is too small for anything other than a plain piece of bread.

Note that Sausalito gets quite busy on summer weekends but is much quieter during the week. Others mentioned a bit of noise from the nearby 'Bocce Bar' on Friday/Sat nights but we really didn't notice it. Make time to drive up thru the hill-side homes and enjoy the views. Friday nites are jazz/blues nites during June-August down by the ferry dock and we enjoyed that also.

One issue with the owner bothered us. We negotiated a price for an 8 day stay well in advance and a partial refund was to be provided to us upon our arrival. That agreement wasn't honoured. A few days after our arrival the owner advised she doesn't normally accept visitors from 'Canada or other foreign countries' due to currency exchange fees. We accepted a reduced partial refund but the owner was well aware we were not from the USA when we rented the unit.

Just what we wanted/expected

  • 5 of 5

Perfect accommodations for a relaxing 5 nights in Sausalito (for a couple). Private, well appointed, clean and close to many local restaurants and activities. Really can't go wrong with any food venues - ate at Poggio, Salito's, Lighthouse Cafe, Cibo and Spinnaker. With the latter (Spinnaker) being a bit of a disappointment for during the week lunch service (food and views were great, but took an hour to get lunch served). Day trips to SF (via Ferry) and Tomales Bay/Pt Reyes Station (The Marshall Store Oysters and Cowgirl Creamery).

Excellent Location for a San Francisco vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house is perfect for 2 people, right on the water. Sausalito is quiet but you are only a 30 minute ferry ride to Fisherman's wharf. The owner was responsive to our questions and very helpful. We would stay there again.
