Our Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at The Blackberry. The cabin was clean and roomy. The views were absolutely the best that you could ask for. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away. I am so glad we booked it. The driveway was a challenge the first trip up but we had no problem afterwards. Please save my contact information and call me if you ever decide to sell. All that we had hoped and more

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was an amazing retreat and what a view. They were not kidding about the view!! True blue ridge experience with morning clouds/fog hovering in the valley.

It's a windy road and driveway that is not for the faint at heart, but only added to the adventure for us. We rappelled, Whitewater Kayaked, hiked and toured the area. It's close to so much and a true relaxing getaway. A perfect combination for those who just want to relax/regenerate and those who need the adrenaline rush that the mountain have to offer. Something for everyone young and old.

The cabin was well equipped with linens and kitchen items, just remember to bring essentials. It's quite a windy drive to pick up the "one thing" you forgot, so plan wisely. Also I wouldn't want to drive that road after enjoying one or two adult beverages.

Only down side is all trash needs to be taken with you when you leave (which is fine), but finding a place to legal dump it was a challenge. After two attempts to find a place we had to ask one of the establishments if we could use their dumpster. Recommendation to owner: Please leave directions/suggestions on where to bring the trash bags. I searched online when I was in town and found nothing.

I would 100% stay here again. My daughter is already ready to book it again. It has to be breathtaking in the fall.

7th Year in a row and it gets better!!!!! Great for the soul

  • 5 of 5

I have now visited the blackberry 7 straight years and making plans for my 8th. Thank you David!!! The whole experience (view, cabin, fire pit and surroundings) make it extra special. I feel so recharged and ready to go after each visit. We usually come during the fall and will miss the glory of the leaf change, oh well always next year. I highly recommend anyone to stay here, its a once in a life time experience or in my case a 7th time.

Once in a Life Time!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is my third time to the cabin and each time it gets better. I bring my family every year and we always come back with a renewed sense of family. The owner always is responsive to our needs and gets back to us on question. The view, fire pit, the porch and the cozy private setting makes it a once or in our case (three times) setting. I will be looking forward to making memories for many years to come as long as the owners will have me. We did the Gorge zip line this year what a treat, one mile from the cabin. Thank you the Bay Family.

Perfect setting, home, and experience!

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed a few days of pure peace in the relaxing little slice of heaven that this cabin home is. The sunrise over the moutains was spectacular from the master bedroom wall of windows. The view 50 miles into the distance is one of the most beautiful I have seen in NC. The cabin was clean, comfortable and so easy to make my own for a while. I took advantage of the front deck for reading and having morning coffee. Getting back to nature in this secluded spot was the key to one of the best short vacations I have had in many years! The owner was great to work with and offered lots of suggestions for things to do in the area. I will be back!!

The view here was beautiful, no doubt, but we had issues with this cabin. The water heater was leaking so badly that the door to the closet had mold all over it. The toilet in the master bathroom was broken as well. We called the property manager upon arrival, but it took 2 1/2 days to be fixed. We also let her know that the air conditioner in the loft wasn't woring and it was 80 degrees downstairs and even hotter in the loft with all the fans on. This was never addressed at all. I believe she had already known about the air conditioner but didn't tend to getting it repaired. The cabin wasn't rented for 3 days prior to our stay so I can't imagine why these issues weren't fixed before we arrived. For most of our stay, we weren't able to use the master bathroom. The condition of the driveway was very understated. We were told that it was a bumpy gravel road, and most cars should have no problem. The driveway needs to be graded. We were lucky enough to have 4 wheel drive, and it was needed. The road was horrid. Additionally, the posts on the porch were old and breaking loose. Thank goodness we had no pets or little children since the porch overhangs a steep fall. Overall, the view was great, but the cabin did not seem well maintained. I have to wonder how long it has been since the owners stayed there.
