About Mark Stephenson
I moved to Charleston from Key West in 1987, I began buying and restoring historic homes for over 18 years. While I lived in Key west I worked in the hotel and hospitality industry learning what makes a great vacation. I have taken that experience to start Historic Smalls Alley.
Mark Stephenson purchased this Cottage in 1997

Cute, great location
Everything we needed, walking distance from breakfast spots, restaurants and bars
Enjoyed our stay
Great location perfect for a couples getaway
Charming but small.
This accommodation was pleasantly adequate. The location seemed to have a good deal of construction on surrounding streets which I am sure is temporary and will hopefully improve the area. We were within walking distance of King Street at one end. We had two bicycles that we brought on the trip and we put them inside at night. This made moving around the small area very difficult. If you choose this listing, don't bring anything extra.
Not a bad place, in the heart of it all. Had a couple of run-ins with some creepy crawlers, the front door could use some weather stripping.
Cute accommodations in Charleston!
Great location off of upper king street. Walking distance or short ride to downtown Charleston. Room was clean and air conditioning was great for good sleeping in the hot and humid weather. Bed was also comfortable. A pastry shop is steps away for morning coffee and treats to enjoy at the outside sitting area. Owners were very responsive with any questions and accommodating when we unexpectedly had to stay an extra day. As others have mentioned there is a musty smell when you first walk in, but it was never a detriment to the stay. Would stay again and recommend to others!
Great place to stay in Charleston.
Great location and only a few blocks from Upper King Street. Cottage was clean but did have a musty smell. Owners were extremely responsive when we had one issue and were very, very quick to respond.
