The two-story log cabin is handmade from local tribes. On the ground floor there is a spacious living / dining room with sofa bed, coffee table and a dining table with six oak chairs. The well equipped kitchen invites you to cook gourmet meals. The bathroom with shower, sink and toilet is also located in the basement.
On the second floor a large bedroom with a comfortable queen-size bed and a second room with two single beds. The cozy, natural bed content, and the quiet location make for a restful sleep. Through the sliding door you come to the large sun terrace, where you can enjoy the beautiful mountain and lake view. Thanks to the comfortable garden furniture, you can enjoy meals outdoors. On the lawn in front of the house is the fireplace, where you can watch the starry sky on a romantic campfire. Next to the house from the wide flower garden and behind the natural forest.
The surrounding area:
The log cabin is situated on a 13 hectare park-like plot with fantastic mountain and lake view .. It does not pass-road through the property, so it is absolutely quiet. Sometimes you can observe wildlife directly from the terrace. Smaller walks start right outside the front door.
The house is located 1 km south of Silverton and 1. 9 Km from the main road. On a forest path you can walk in about 25 minutes to Silverton, which is the smallest village in British Columbia. Since there is a food shop and a café that defines this. The locals here are very friendly, it's easy to come in's conversation with them.
In Silverton there are several beaches where you can enjoy a swim. With a rented canoe you can look for a nice place for a picnic.
A boat-trip to the opposite Valhalla Provincial Park can be arangiert. There you can go hiking, see spectacular waterfalls and 6,000-year-old Indian pictographs visit.
The over 2200 meter high mountain peak with the old fire watchtower, is a popular viewpoint. The 360 ° panoramic view of the Slocan Lake and the surrounding mountains is spectacular. The alpine meadows are beautiful. From the ghost town of Sandon out, a 12 km long dirt road leads to a high-altitude parking. From there leads a 1. 5 Km long tightrope walk up through beautiful alpine meadows, to the summit. We recommend for this road a vehicle with high clearance, or even all-wheel drive. This also applies to many other high-altitude hikes in the area.
We can advise you in planning your excursions and hikes.
We, Karin and Bruno Burgermeister emigrated from Switzerland to Canada and live for over 20 years on this land.
We made our dream come true and are drawn from the largest city in Switzerland to the smallest village in British Columbia.
We have made our hobby into a profession and act with crystals, minerals and fossils. In the gallery on the property, we show and sell stones from around the world.
My spouse and I stayed for 8 nights at Blue Sky Resort. There are only 3 guest buildings on the property, two 2-storey log cabins separated by a single 2-unit 2-storey log cabin. We stayed in the cabin located at the end of the guest drive. Although the other cabins were usually occupied by families with young children, the grounds and distance between the cabins are such that we enjoyed privacy and quiet on our deck.
What we liked:
- The log cabin! Traditional log cabin construction, real hardwood floor in the living and dining area, 2 spacious bedrooms upstairs with open cathedral ceilings. The cabin is clean (very clean) and uncluttered. All the furniture including the beds is good quality, solid and comfortable. The cabin stays cool throughout the day, even during very hot summer days. Wifi is reliable and sufficient for browsing and email.
- The kitchen. Fully equipped with good quality pots and pans, 4-burner range, ample fridge space, a beautiful view into the woods behind the cabin. Nice cutlery and stemware. We cooked all our meals at the cabin and enjoyed dining at the large glass-topped patio table on the deck.
- The view from the cabin and the deck. Spectacular and unencumbered by buildings or other man-made structures: across a meadow of flowers and ferns you see the mountains to the west and Slocan Lake to the NW.
- The owners. Karin and Bruno are gracious hosts who can provide you with a wealth of information about the area. If something isn't quite right, they will fix it. Clearly this property is their pride and joy.
- The location. You are not on the lake. You have a bird's eye view of the lake, you are less than 5 minutes from a delightful beach in Silverton, and you have the privacy and peace that may not be part of your experience if you opt for accommodation close to the lake and Highway 6. And so many cool places to visit and explore: New Denver, Sandon, Idaho Peak, Valhalla Provincial Park, the numerous rails to trails...
What could have improved our stay:
- Not much. One good quality gas grill is shared amongst the units. A grill dedicated to the unit I am renting would be much more convenient. A package of information about the surrounding area: where to shop, where to dine, services, beaches, canoe and kayak rentals, hikes, attractions, farmers markets, etc. would have been helpful.
We would most certainly return to Blue Sky Resort. Thank you Karin and Bruno for a wonderful stay.
We had a great time staying in this wonderful log home. The Slocan lake view was such a treat to have every evening. We was supposed to go to Revelstoke after 3 days here and loved it some much we stayed an extra night and would have stayed longer. If you are looking for a very peaceful place to stay this is the place. Silverton and New Denver are quaint little towns. The Nikkei Internment camp is great.. We are hikers and did the Alps Alturus, Idaho Peak and Mount Buchanan all spectacular. The cabin was perfect and the beds are marvelous. We came home and ordered the same beds for our home. The cabin was immaculate, the deck was wonderful and perfectly furnished and so quiet. Karin and Bruno were just delightful to talk to. New Denver has a great little grocery store and ice cream shop across the street (yummy). There are several little shops to check out and the sunsets down by the lake are fabulous, and just 5 minutes from the cabin or just walk out you front door and and sit in a chair by the fire ring at the cabin and you have the perfect sunset view. If you are looking for a peaceful, friendly place to get away you must stay here!!! We will be back!
We had an amazing time. The lake and mountains were beautiful, small towns surrounding the resort were fun to explore, people friendly, roads great and the actuall resort had all you would need: nice facilities, nice deck to enjoy the view, campfire, BBQ, full kitchen and bedding clean and in a great condition.
We loved getting to know the owners and hearing some of their stories. Do take some time to chat with them!
We fell in love with the place and are hoping to come back again.
Silverton is on Slocan Lake in the Slocan Valley, in the Kootenays, in south-eastern British Columbia. The valley with its deep blue sea and the snow-capped mountains, is traded as a hot tip. The clear lake invites for swimming, canoeing and fishing a. The three surrounding provincial parks, paradisiacal with the high mountain wilderness and alpine flower meadows, are ideal for breathtaking hikes. The hot springs around are great for relaxing. The silver boom of the 1900 century is reflected in the Western-style of the building and in the museums of Silverton, New Denver and the ghost town of Sandon. With the nearby town of Kaslo one of the last paddle steamer is to visit (45 min.). A visit to the historic town of Nelson, with its Victorian Archidektur, is recommended (approx 75 min).

Golf: The nearest golf course is located in New Denver (journey time 15 minutes).
While the course has only 9 holes, but golfers say that it offers a real challenge. The place has its own restaurant with a beautiful lake view.
