I'm passionate in what I'm doing with the Emerald Lake Chalet.
When I read guest comments that they have enjoyed their stay and want to come back,
that's very rewarding.

This property is one of a kind. Swimming and fishing at the door.
My family has owned property on Emerald Lake since 1960. It's been a great retreat for my six children and grandchildren as well as our friends. Bellingham is minutes away where many activities, shopping and gourmet restaurants add to the wonderful lake setting apart from city life.
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity and beauty that was our Easter away from home (Australia and England). We all had a wonderful time relaxing at your magical chalet and soaking in everything it had to offer. We will always have the memory of BBQs and wine and beer on the deck. Thank you again!
The chalet is located at the bottom of a hill across from a very small lake. We stayed during winter and Bellingham received one of its rare snow falls, which made the scene beautiful but left us stranded for 24 hours when we could not get our vehicle up the hill. Probably the strangest thing about the stay was the lack of contact with the owner. In other VRBO locations, the owner has contacted us to make certain that everything is as expected and in working order. In this case, I left two messages for the owner who never responded (I was able to reach someone else who I think helped as a caretaker of the cabin--mostly to confirm that we did not need to bring laundry detergent, paper products, etc.). When the snow came, I had to find a shovel to clear the many steps up to the cabin, and my wife located some salt. Not a big deal for us (we're in our fifties) but not a responsibility older guests should have to deal with. It would be a fun place for kids in the summer (there is a canoe and paddle boat) but whatever the season I think the owner probably should show a little more interest.
We stayed in early October with our two young children. It was a miserable day the first day, but we were cozy in our cabin on the lake. The fire was nice and the kept the whole place VERY toasty. We enjoyed playing cribbage, yahtzee, drinking hot chocolate and watching movies while we watched the rain come down. The kids loved all of the 'hiding' spots in the loft area and the views were stunning. We were lucky the next day as the weather cleared. We went to nearby Whatcom Lake trail system (5 min drive away) and enjoyed a stunning walk as a family. We came back in the afternoon and enjoyed fishing off the dock (no luck) and toodling around on the canoe and kayaks. It is a peaceful, serene lake and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We even saw a great blue heron fishing on the banks. The proximity to the city is awesome; we didn't feel like cooking on the second night, so we just ordered some take out and we only had a 10 min drive to pick it up. A couple was renting the suite underneath us, but we couldn't hear them at all. We did have to share the kayaks, but we worked out the timing and it was no big deal. I don't know how busy it gets in the summer, but we were the only people on the lake most of the time. I would highly recommend!
Place was very clean and had everything we needed (wood and tools, cookware, towels, blankets, etc). We booked very last minute, but the communication was prompt.
It was a bit cold and damp, but there were stacks of firewood and we cooked and admired the views. So much birdsong, it felt like Hawaii. Spotted a bald eagle when we arrived and spent a lazy weekend watching more intrepid types fishing and boating. Next time we come hopefully we will have better weather and can enjoy the outdoors, but it is no show-stopper.
Note, there are quite a few stairs to get to the chalet. The view is worth it, but those stairs are probably not for everyone.
This would be a great place for kids too.
the house was very nice and we all enjoyed the lake and kayaks. It was sunny and we had so much fun on the lake and taking walks and runs and also had a nice fire down by the lake. I will be back.
The chalet was perfect for our family get together. The view was lovely, and it was very quiet yet close to town. Our only complaint would be that we had to purchase firewood. The description said the firewood was provided. When we arrived, which was very late due to a very delayed flight, there were only 3 large pieces of wood. There was no way to build a fire with it. Being it was Jan. The chalet was chilly. We looked for a wood pile and did not find any, and had to purchase wood at the store. If the description had stated that we were responsible for getting wood we could have bought it on the way in.
Other wise it was very lovely and would stay there again.
Traveling to Bellingham for sad occasion; this was the perfect space to rest and refuel with friends. Beautiful spot on the lake. Home had everything we needed. Will definitely recommend to friends! Communication with owners easy with quick response. Would help to know that entry door was not the door on 1st landing. Need to go to top of stairs. Figured it out after a bit. Great place!
