Why Heidi Dodd chose Washington
We love old properties and challenges. This neglected log cabin needed our love and...well, come to see if we have risen to the task. The local community is great and the peaceful environment promised a world away, while still allowing us to be close to DC.
What makes this Cabin unique
The hand-hewn cabin is a century and half old. This old house allows you to appreciate the craftsmanship, durability, and practicality of rural 19th century construction. It is like walking back in time, while our renovations give the house a modern twist without infringing upon the original structure. We've added modern amenities, like heating, cooling, and internet. The area is full of interesting farms, cultural and outdoor activities, wine tours and more. Make sure you spend time outside during the full moon to appreciate the woods in a new way, or watch the stars on any clear night in an area with very little unnatural light blocking your view.

A beautiful escape
Our stay at Heidi and Desmond's place was more than we could have hoped for. Their place was a little slice of heaven, located down a rural road, tucked away from all of life's hustle and bustle. The wooded lot provided a peaceful retreat for which the frontier cabin was affixed. It was so nice to experience this slice of history, and Heidi and Desmond's expansive, modern addition was not only sensitive to design but offered a wonderful hangout space. Not only was the home uncluttered and lovingly decorated, but the mix of old and new, historic and modern, was so cool. This place with large windows, high ceilings, hardwood floors, and sensitive appointments offered a lovely backdrop for our weekend. The property was immaculate, both inside and out, and Heidi and Desmond provided a clean, comfortable, and well-organized space. It's apparent that a lot of attention to detail has gone into this property, and it is with great care and pride that they offer their home to visitors. Communication with Heidi and Desmond was clear and easy, and they made sure we had everything a visitor would need. They even set up a fire pit for us, and all we had to do was light the paper and enjoy! If you are looking for a weekend away from it all and close to Shenandoah national park, it is without reservation that I would recommend a stay at Heidi and Desmond's place. Thank you so much, Heidi and Desmond!!
Like a dream
I don’t want to say how beautiful this cabin was, how perfect the setting and location, and how responsive Heidi was with any questions for fear of it not being available any time I want to escape!! Hands down the best VRBO experience. This is my dream cabin, and I am so so grateful for the chance to experience it. Fully equipped open kitchen made all meal prep a breeze. Hiking trail just a 100 M up the road. 5 stars all the way!!! Be warned, there is no cell service at all close to the cabin. Take a screen shot of the directions and check in info so you have it available. We will be back.... loved this quiet escape from the city!!
Wonderful Homebase near Shenandoah National Park
We had a wonderful stay at Heidi and Desmond's cabin. The photos really don't do the place justice, the property is so well designed, spacious and well appointed. Having stayed at multiple rentals in the area over the last 5 years, this place is really our favorite and such a gem. Regarding layout, there is one master bedroom downstairs, and a loft with four twin beds. The second story is cute for kids and even adults, it's large, and the 1.5 bathrooms just downstairs mean no one is stepping over one another. Mrs. Meyer's products are placed throughout the home, and a new LG washer and dryer is on-site. The shower's water pressure was excellent. The kitchen was well stocked with great cookware which made whipping up meals a breeze. The location is off the beaten path, but we enjoyed that. There is a great winery on the same road, Quievremont, with stunning views and some excellent Bordeaux style wines. We were only 20 minutes away from two of our favorite hikes in the area (Little Devil Stairs and Buck Hollow/Buck Ridge Trail), and just 15 minutes from downtown Sperryville and 10 minutes from Little Washington. Highly recommend this beautiful property, and we will hopefully be returning soon!
Secluded and cozy
Heidi and Desmond were great hosts. They have a beautiful cabin on a beautiful property. We loved the clean modern addition and rustic original house equally, and would very highly recommend staying if you’re in the area.
This is a wonderful house for a family, and perhaps one of my all time favorite VRBOs. The original cabin was built in the 1860s, and has been renovated and supplemented by a great two story addition with bathrooms and a kitchen. The kitchen is perfectly set up with modern fixtures. Our kids loved the games and massive bean bag chairs, plus playing outdoors on the big lot with little pond. There are llamas a short walk down the road! We will definitely try to return!
This rustic retreat in the woods is wonderful.Everything you could possibly need for your stay has been thought of - all you'll need is your clothes and some food. Heidi was wonderful letting us know about the area and even knew kept us aware of weather forecasts. If you're looking for a nice spot away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to go explore all that the area has to offer, this is your place!
We'd definitely stay again! Thank you for opening up your beautiful home for others to enjoy!
