Kapoho House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

The House of the Dancing Turtles is just awaiting your arrival to show off her splendor and beauty in the always sunny and warm Kapoho Beach Lots area of the east side of the Big Island. This gated community is highly sought after by vacation renters because of it's beautiful location, close proximity to the sights and sounds of the beautiful Pacific Ocean and for the incredibly private crystal clear, geothermally heated lagoon for your relaxing pleasure. You owe it to yourself to stay in this beautiful home! The large lagoon which is right at your doorstep and is fed underground by the Pacific, is heated to a warm 91 degrees year round. This hale is on one of the most private lots in this area, therefore swimming in the lagoon will leave you with the feeling of being in some far away land.

The hale is decorated in a fun Hawaiiana theme and offers privacy with it's separate ohana that allows for couples to have their own private living and sleeping space. The front house offers 2 full bedrooms, 2 baths and a full size kitchen. The ohana which is generous in size, has a 2 full size bedrooms, bath, and a small kitchen for your use. You'll have the main house for up to 4 people and the Ohana for up to 4 more, but either way, you'll have the entire property to yourself. No other guests will in the Ohana, even if you don't need it. It's your exclusive Paradise! Both living areas offer covered lanai's that look out onto the incredible lagoon.

Just a few minutes walk from the hale are several ocean accesses including the incredible crystal clear Champagne Pond which is where you will find honu (sea turtles) making their home. Just a 5 minute drive down the historic Old Red Road is the Ahalanui Warm Spring Park which is another geothermally heated swimming pond at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Another 10 minute drive down the Red Road is the historic Kehena Black Sand Beach and don't miss old Pahoa town, just a short 10 mile drive from the hale where you will find the original boardwalks that date back to the late 1800's when this sleepy little town was king in the sugar plantation days. There is great dining in this little town with Italian, Thai, Chinese and Tex-Mex. Hilo town with all of it's historical points of interest, color and famous for it's friendly people is only about 35 minutes away and the ever changing Volcanoes National Park is about a 50 minute drive from Honu Hula House.

A Slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

I chose this place for the lagoon described, the proximity to volcano np, great snorkeling nearby and many other sights worth seeing plus I didnt want to be among the tourists. OMG! This place was aaaaamazing!!! After what seemed like an endless flight, transfers, hiring the car my head was spinning and I felt quite ill. However when we arrived, despite it being dark, we went straight to the lagoon and were surrounded by the most magical sounds of singing frogs - I swear I could hear them answering each other! Over the next few days we found it quite hard to drag ourselves away from this place to see other sights. We even missed out on seeing the volcano!!! The house had everything we could ask for all in good working order, was very clean and very homely. I sat out on the veranda most nights and there was a noticable lack of mosquitoes! Might have been all the frogs and cute green geckos! The kids absolutely loved the beautifully warm lagoon with all the resident fish and I loved my night swims in moonlight or rain - the weather had everything but in that lagoon it didnt matter such was its perfect temperature. We are now in maui on the beach however I know I could have easily spent my entire holiday at the "house of the dancing turtles". We will definately be back for a longer stay to see more of the sights next time round. Just to add, we also partook in a day with Dawn Burke (Off the Beaten Path Eco tours). It was wonderful to connect with a local who knew where to go and what to do...and could get us to places that not everyone knew how to negotiate. It was my first time to Hawaii so it was invaluable getting Dawn's insight into all things Hawaiian. Thank you Jeana et al for making this property available. It was heaven indeed :)

We would stay here again!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the House of the Dancing Turtles for 9 days around Christmas. We had a great time and would stay there again for sure. The gated community is lovely and all of the houses in the neighborhood look to be well cared for, including this one. This property is very private; when you sit on the back lanai or use the lagoon, you will not see a neighbor and will feel like it is your slice of paradise. The back lanai is shaded and cool even during the heat of the day, and is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee during rain (because it does rain on this part of the island). The landscaping is jungle-like and lush. The kitchen has a coffee pot, microwave, stove, oven, rice cooker, toaster, and just about every pan, dish, gadget, or utensil you need to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner there (which we did). We made a fantastic batch of lemon squares using lemons from the yard, which the kids got a kick out of. The laundry room/office makes checking email and doing occasional work easy and the Wi-Fi was reliable. We were able to watch our football team play because they have Dish satellite service. We did use the ohana which has a separate porch overlooking the lagoon and a small kitchen which gave those who slept there privacy. And the lagoon was amazing. We bought floating inflatable chairs with cup holders at the KTA grocery store and spent a lot of time just floating around there and watching the small fish and listening to the birds. The lagoon is deep and shady on one end and shallow and sunny on the other. It is the most lush and amazing back yard I have ever seen and we felt privileged to be able to use it. I had a lot of questions prior to our trip, and the manager answered all of them with patience and thoroughness, and we found her answers to be accurate and honest. This was our first VRBO rental and it far exceeded our expectations.

Awesome lagoon

  • 5 of 5

Our family really enjoyed staying at this house. We used the ohana as well. The lagoon and trees and setting was just perfect. Very easy access to the Champagne pond (walking distance) and the tide pools (driving). The rental agent/manager was a dream to work with and super responsive to our needs. Clean and well cared for property. Highly recommend this house if you are looking for one in this area. Also, don't miss driving the "red road" and doing the activities that the managers thoughtfully put together with the rental package. How nice is that.

Gorgeous natural pool

  • 5 of 5

The house was charming and the setting lovely. The private natural pool was incredibly beautiful, and the famous Champagne Pond only 2-3 minutes' walk through the neighborhood. The lanai was another entire lovely room in the house. The kitchen was great for feeding a crowd, and very well equipped. Tis was a perfect relaxing and beautiful jumping off place for Volcanos Park, or just for enjoying this quiet section of the island.

Honu Hula Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Well, we just returned from 10 days over Christmas at the Honu Hula. What an adventure! The house is bright, clean and roomy. We actually rented both houses for the four of us which probably wasn't necessary. The property is large, fenced and the kids 12/16 had fun exploring this and the entire community. Champagne pond is a few houses away. Waiopae was a short drive and well worth a trip or two. The pahoa market was amazing, very colourful sights, smells tastes. Our warm pond was beyond therapeutic. Very zen like. Spent many hours just floating the stress of city life away. Hard to leave this place. High recommend for families with children, as it is a super safe place away from noisy crowds of hotels and touristy kitsch.

Delightful

  • 5 of 5

The house and ahana was quite comfortable for six adults. We loved the tidal pond and spent time in the morning and evening relaxing in our private paradise. The subdivision was interesting to walk through. Wonderful introduction to the east side of the Big Island. The market in the town of Pahoa was quite reasonably priced and the brochure provided by the owners on what to do was quite helpful. Close to Volcanoes National Park.
