Tricia and Lynn Graves
About Tricia and Lynn Graves
We are the Graves Family. We've been farming this land - the valley and mountain slopes - since 1740. We farm primarily apple orchards with some cattle, goats and hay making meadows. You'll see it all but let us know if you fancy a farm tour. We are a family of six. Rachel and Jimmy are the Mom and Dad. You'll meet them down the road at our inn and family style southern restaurant, three meals a day for all our guests - along with the hikers, horse campers, fly fisher folk, and our farm team. We're the Kids - Lynn, Lucky and our wives Tricia and Missy. You'll likely see us down at the restaurant lodge. We are frequently there with our team for meals - and joking with Margie and Margaret who run the Southern cooking kitchen stoves and bakeshop. Just stop by and we'll fix you up with your next adventure here in our Blue ridge rural retreat.

Why Tricia and Lynn Graves chose Syria
First off this is the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is Shenandoah National Park - 2 miles upstream. Tucked up the "holler" here, just off the old Blue Ridge Turnpike, the cabin overlooks the Rose River - an excellent trout stream and you'll have swimming hole right near. Located right next to Shenandoah National Park, two miles further into the mountains from our small village, Syria. Note: our valley is tech UNPLUGGED - no cell phone and no WiFi . This is the way our rural Blue Ridge life is. We, the Graves Family, run a Lodge down river. There we have a huge seasonal pool, games, horseback riding and rods to borrow. You'll also find our Family Style, home cooked southern restaurant where all folks dine at long communal tables. This is community here and a continuation of farm dinners at big tables through the three centuries that we've farmed the valley. So if you fancy eating out, we're just down river and, if you don't plan to cook at all, we will do meal plans for you at a 20% discount.

Great weekend at Valley View
We enjoyed our stay at Valley View. The cabin is very clean, spacious enough for four people (we had 3 adults), and nicely furnished. And the location is perfect if you want to hike the nearby White Oak Canyon trail; it's a very short drive and you can get there early to snag a spot in the NPS parking lot. We would recommend adding a few more items to the kitchen. There were plenty of plates, glasses, and utensils, but we missed having a few essential cooking tools. We could not get the electric can opener to work and there was no manual one -- although fortunately the kitchen staff members in the lodge were kind enough to open our cans for us one evening. Also, we would have appreciated a colander or strainer to drain our spaghetti and a second large pot so that we could cook sauce and noodles at the same time. A measuring cup would be nice, too. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay and we hope to return in the future.
