Incredible Location for a Relaxing Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a truly exceptional stay at this property. The location is off the beaten path and a journey from the nearest town, but well worth it for the views and privacy up in the hills. The apartment is on the upper level of a barn on the vineyard so it is a bit rustic, but with modern amenities and a wonderful private pool/hot tub/spa with incredible views of the rolling hills of wine country. The owners arranged for a private wine tasting with us and we had a great time relaxing and enjoying great wine, snacks, and learning about the history of the winery with them. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to have an authentic wine country experience and would definitely go back!!

Mountain top views and relaxation

  • 4 of 5

What a charming spot to spend few days. The pool was cool and needed in the Mendocino summer. But the evenings were great for the hot tub and star gazing. Holly had some fabulous stories of past adventures... enjoy them over her wine tasting (just below the room!). Holly made a great recommendation for a dinner in (somewhat) nearby Cloverdale. And, we found the amazing Bewildered Pig in Philo (40 minutes drive thru the bucolic Anderson Valley). One of the best meals we have had this year. Exceptional. We also found a great road bike ride on Flynn Creek Road to Compche - and down toward Mendocino. Very little traffic (a few logging trucks tough). We'll be back!

Owner's Response: We are so glad your vacation was memorable. We really enjoyed meeting you both and wished we could have spent more time getting to know you. That is awesome that you branched out and explored this area. So much to see. Lots of river spots to go swimming and tubing in Healdsburg, Cloverdale, and Navarro in the summer. We were passing through Philo tonight and wanted to check out the Bewildered Pig, but we had no phone reception and did not have the address, we looked for it. We have private wine tastings in the tasting room primarily for our guests. Guests need to make reservations for the wine tasting as we serve a platter of bread, our organic olive oil, our home cured olives, and more. Rarely do we have the public here for wine tastings, that is also by appointment only. The pool is the perfect temperature for a hot summer day, like today, the guests have been using the pool for two days. The hot weather, the refreshing pool, with the warm and cool Navarro breezes from the ocean, makes the pool experience the most idyllic. The warm summer nights are the best with a star studded sky. We hope to see you back again and the guys can play music!

Far from the maddening crowds

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. We felt right at home in the beautiful, quiet setting. the accommodations were just fine for me, my wife and 3 little girls. The views in all directions were stunning and we never grew tired of just sitting around gazing into the surrounding valleys, watching the changing light and the fog swirling around before the sun burned it off. Our girls loved the pool, hot tub and sauna especially because we let them take full advantage of the unlimited access just a short walk down the lane at all hours of the day and night. Eric and Holly are great hosts, very interesting to talk with and responsive to our emails, they felt like friends to us when we had a wine tasting with them. I did not think i was really into wine very much until i tasted some of their excellent wines along with their olive oil and olives. Being way up on that ridge above the valley was a real treat, no crowds of people, no noise, no light pollution you can see the full glory of the cosmos out there. we felt totally safe up here, no need to lock doors or worry about the girls wandering around. if you need shows, casinos, clubs and so on you may want to look elsewhere but if you love to truly relax and be close to nature then this is your place. we were already making plans to come back as we drove down the lane on the way home....

Owner's Response: That's beautiful. We love it when people "get it" what it is like to be here. You were wonderful guests and are all welcome back at any time. That was great that you got full use of the spa. We love it here too, the stars are so bright and clear tonight! We enjoyed our time together with you at the private wine tasting. We love it when people leave here with great memories and plans to return. Thank you...

So peaceful, spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

This home was really lovely. I could have sat in the meadows or on the little deck and stared at the views all day! The place was clean, the kitchen was suitably stocked for cooking, the hot tub was hot (and had incredible views!), and the sauna was a bonus treat! The owner sent me plenty of information ahead of time and made herself available for questions, but I never actually saw her while I was there--I'm sure she would have been available if I'd reached out, but seemed like she was giving us space. The location is nice and secluded, but there are a few nearby wineries and a brewery--everywhere we went was really friendly.

A true get-away

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week at the Mountain House Inn (from Dec. 27 to Jan. 2) and loved it. It's exactly as described, but better. We loved that it took 15 to 20 minutes to get anywhere. Except getting to the pool, hot tub and sauna. That took about 5 minutes walking (don't forget a flashlight if you go at night.) The hosts are lovely people, and I highly recommend scheduling a wine tasting with them. Fun to learn more about the winery and them! They are humble, warm, and friendly. They truly cared about us having the perfect stay. And we did.

We can't wait to go back. Only stay here if you like absolute peace and quiet, and views.

Oh - and unlike many of the VRBO places we've stayed, the kitchen came with many basic supplies - cream, sugar, bottled water (sorry - boxed water!), a lemon for tea, spices, and coffee (and filters!). Plenty of paper towels, good tissues/Kleenex and toilet paper. We didn't have to buy a thing except for our own groceries. Bring your own wine, or purchase some from them!

Owner's Response: Thank you Debbie for the lovely review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay here. We will continue to improve the Mountain House Inn to be more like paradise along the way. Truly, it is an outdoor experience for people who like the country, fresh air, pure water, and adventurous views of the vast California landscape. We want our guests to feel at home, even in the cold winter months by the fireside. So glad to have meet you at the wine tasting, we enjoyed your company!

Just the most relaxing place ever!

  • 5 of 5

Our third time back.... and the first time in winter that it was actually cool so we got to use the wood burning stove, so cozy! I just love this place - we still have to do the wine tasting (our fault for not being in touch more about late arrival etc) but there really isn't a better place to unwind, relax, go for long walks enjoying gorgeous views, linger in bed listening to the rain on a drizzly sunday morning. We will continue to come back!

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed the winter at Mountain House Inn. Yes, next time let's do a private wine tasting. We our bottling the delicious Zinfandel right now. Set up an appointment with us before your arrival. We didn't want to bother you, we respect your privacy. We figured you wanted your own space and to rest. The views are beautiful all year round, as you know, especially from the jacuzzi at sunset. We look forward to having you back again.
