About Amber and Paul Engelkes Owners, Sarah Engelkes Manager
My husband and I grew up in rural MN, in farming country in the SW corner of the state. We met, married, and raised a family there, but we always dreamed of owning a lake home. Now, our five kids are grown, some with kids of their own, and the time came for our dream to become a reality! We searched the Ten Mile Lake area until we found the home for us. Of course, we still have our home in the south of the state, so we won't be here all the time; so, we want to share our home with you! May it be a home away from home, and may your memories here be as sweet as ours!

Why Amber and Paul Engelkes Owners, Sarah Engelkes Manager chose Hackensack
The Hackensack area of Minnesota has lovely driving, twisting through woods and around lakes, but civilization is not too far away for those who like to hit the gift shops or even for a quick grocery run. Ten Mile Lake is clean and quiet. It has shallow edges that make for great swimming, yet it plunges to depths of hundreds of feet for great fishing. Our property is easy to access - it is right off of a paved road, making it a great option for winter stays (for snowmobiling, ice fishing, or a cozy get-away) as well as summer.
What makes this Cabin unique
This property is a beauty! Lovely living areas, knotty pine interiors, a welcoming fireplace, family-friendly amenities, and a private stretch on a gorgeous lake. The stair approach to the lake will help keep the little ones from wandering too close to the water without supervision, but we also have a walking/riding path for those who struggle with stairs. The cabin's porch is perfect for late night chats or early morning reading, afternoons in the sun or listening to the call of the loons in the hours around dawn. The large, two-story windows that face the lake let you enjoy the outdoors from the comforts of the couch, and the fire place will take the chill out of watching the snow fall - or even just a cool evening. The guesthouse can also be included in your rental. It's an additional space for an individual family, a romantic tryst for a young couple, or a place to put all your teens who want to stay up extra late!

Very relaxing place and great deck to gather on!
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful!!!
This lake house is amazing!!! My family and I had the most fantastic vacation!!! I would definitely come here again! The property is fantastic! The house is very spacious, clean and cozy. We had nine people and there was ample room. Love being in the woods and no one complained about the stairs. (Great exercise) Just take it slow if you have to. This place provides EVERYTHING you need for your lake fun! We brought lake floaties and didn't really need them because they were already provided! They had one kayak (small) and a paddle boat. They even provide fishing poles! There was a pontoon at our disposal ($100/day) to use when/if we needed it. Nice treat! The water was so clear and clean.......so refreshing!
I have NO negative comments about this place! We all had a blast and next time I'm taking 2 weeks off for vacation! Haha!! It was truly hard to leave this beautiful place!!!
The house and property were beautiful.
We had a wonderful 4 nights at the Hideaway. The house was spotless, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms large and the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved sitting outside on the deck over looking the lake - such a pretty view. It was the perfect place for us. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.
Wonderful Family Vacation
Thanks Engelkes' - you have a gorgeous home on Ten Mile Lake. It meant all of our needs and more. Fishing was great. Family time was great! Lots of memories made.
Perfect Family Retreat
Life gets too busy for our family - 13 of us from age 17 to 79, so that we rarely all get together. Our week at the Hideaway provides a fantastic family renewal and closeness as we play yard games, card games, water sports and fishing. A few trips for shopping in Walker provide souvenir memories for the rest of the year. The large comfortable gathering space is great for conversation and there is plenty of room to enjoy our group meals. The deck is spacious and a great place to play cards or just relax in the outdoors. Yard games were played on the grassy back yard which provided a perfect spot for our annual fish fry of Ten Mile Lake walleye, bass and crappie. There are fun photo ops at Akeley’s Paul Bunyan and Hackensack’s Lucette Diana Kensack, Paul’s girl friend. The short trip to Itasca State Park to walk across the tiny Mississippi River and gift shop/museum is a great experience too. The Big Dipper ice cream is tops and was visited a few times. In the past year the folks who own the property have added touches that give the property a homey feel and improvements like electric to the dock to charge the trolling motors. They are very concerned that our rental experience is enjoyable and they were very successful in doing just that!
The Hideaway was the perfect place for our family vacation this year!
We all enjoyed the accommodations and spent a wonderful amount of time on the deck. We would highly recommend the Hideaway and would definitely rent it again if we travel back to the area. The lake water is gorgeous and loved seeing the loons, eagles, herons and pelicans. Thank you!
Right on Ten Mile Lake, 9 miles from Hackensack and 10 miles from Walker. Snowmobile trail nearby (1 mile away) goes all the way to Brainerd (50 miles) and Bemidji (42 miles), accessing over 1200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Ice fishing on Ten Mile Lake is good! The Northern Lights Casino is 11 miles away in Walker and hosts the Moon Dance and Sun Dance events every summer.
