About Mark & Cindy
We both grew up back East, but have now lived in California for almost 30 years and both our children are natives. We always dreamt of living on Balboa Island, but only recently could figure out how to finance a home here. We've not been disappointed! The only difficult thing is leaving the Island from time to time...
Mark & Cindy purchased this House in 2015
Why Mark & Cindy chose Balboa Island
You can decide for yourself, but "Little" Balboa is truly special. While part of what is commonly called Balboa Island, it is its own separate island across the "Grand Canal" and a second bridge. Originally planned to be a small island with casinos and hotels similar to Monaco; that concept did not prove feasible and more housing was added to Little Balboa Island in the 1920's instead. In fact, one of those charming houses, built in 1926, remains today just three doors down from us. Somewhere along the line, the residents of Little Balboa got together and agreed to bury utility lines and add miniature light houses, making the well-located island all the more beautiful. The main island can't seem to agree on how to do similarly, but we're rooting for them!
What makes this House unique
I spent my career as an institutional real estate investment advisor and know quality construction when I see it. Ours is a custom home built with the finest of materials and craftsmanship in 2004. This house was not built to be a "vacation rental"; it was built to be a primary residence. We have respected that philosophy by furnishing the home with the same orientation to quality and good taste. This is not your basic "beach house" rental; we like to think it is casual coastal living with a designer's approach. If you are looking for a beach house to trash for a week with an owner that won't mind, please look elsewhere. We were young once, and raised two great kids, so we completely understand the process. However, are now at a stage of life where we take care of and enjoy quality finishes that are well maintained, and we hope you do too! With all that said, if you like the finer things in life and respect other's belongings, you will LOVE our home and its location. Short of being ON the water, it does not get any better anywhere on the island. We are close to everything with water views, while on the nicest corner of the island, equi-distant and just steps to the water in three directions. One of those directions yields a public dock for fishing and/or boating.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Little Island Gem
We had a wonderful stay in this fantastic house, on this special little island. The house was clean, comfortable and light-filled. Easy check-in and check-out. Excellent location as well. Thanks to our hosts for a great stay and for lending us their beautiful home! We will be back...
We are a family of 7 adults plus one 2 year old. We had a wonderful experience here. Was very comfortable & well furnished. Beds were comfortable & house was clean. Owner extremely easy to work with. Highly recommend.
Home away from home
This vacation rental is a true beauty. It was our home away from home for a month this spring. The home itself is in pristine condition, the interior decor is beautiful and the home is well equipped for a very comfortable stay. The neighbors were all very welcoming and made our stay even more meaningful. Everything was within walking distance which we loved. Morning walked to Dad's donuts or Wilma's Patio for breakfast. The ferry to Big Balboa island is also walking distance. Mark and Cindy were more than accommodating, they went out of their way to see that our stay was a 5 star experience. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Our Stay in Casa la Pina
First of all, you won’t do better than Casa la Pina. The hosts are the best...accommodating and responsive, promptly answering any questions.
The home is spacious, welcoming and equipped with just about anything you can imagine. You can walk everywhere while enjoying shops, great restaurants, amazing sunsets and even the grocery store. You can create a gourmet meal or easily bring in take out and soak in the delightful pleasure of the fire pit as the evenings cool. Great shopping opportunities are an easy drive away. We even enjoyed a fabulous symphony concert one night. A week doesn’t allow enough time for all possibilities available from this home away from home. Next trip we will venture farther to other south Orange County sites. There will be a next time.
Fantastic on Balboa Island!
All the rave reviews are accurate - this is NOT just any vacation rental; it’s a very high quality home with all you could hope for on your vacation to this charming island in the Newport Harbor. The location is perfect, close to town, but not too close. The best waterfront on all the island is just steps away, and from there, you can stroll the entire island's waterfront for a wonderful sightseeing walking tour.
The owners have thought of everything. It feels like a friend’s luxurious home. The kitchen is magnificent and completely equipped with name brand appliances and even has warming drawers. The gas barbecue is located on a patio adjacent to the kitchen through sliding glass doors. The dining room table seats eight comfortably, and there’s additional abundant seating on the front patio around a fire pit / table. All perfect for entertaining...
This home deserves it's accolades and high ratings. The owners are great to work with and more attentive than management companies. We’ve stayed in other homes on the island before, this is clearly THE best. You will not be disappointed !!!
The best on Little Balboa
Over the years we have rented many houses on both Balboa Islands (Big & Little Islands). This house is at the top of the list. Great condition, best location, great Landlord, best of everything. This is our second year (two weeks each stay) at this home. We will return next year. Can't say enough good things about this home.
Bob & Valerie:
Thank you so much for being our 60th Unanimous Five Star review. It’s fitting that it’s you as you’re on of best returning clients. Knowing that you’ve stayed on the island many times over the years adds credibility to your comments. We are honored by your praise and hope you will keep returning for years!
Little Balboa, with its buried utilities and wider concrete streets, is the most desirable part of the well known 100+ year old Balboa Island. Our home is located just three blocks from the Island's "main street" where blocks of charming shops and restaurants are open year round. The southeast corner of the island means wide water views where all boats must pass to access the ocean. Take a short walk around Little Balboa's waterfront, or take the longer 2.7 mile walk around both Islands to enjoy fabulous views of the water, exclusive real estate, impressive yachts and interesting people.
Balboa Island is not far from the many other famous beachfront communities that surround it such as Corona Del Mar, Newport Beach's Balboa Peninsula, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach. An abundance of shopping and dining is available in this cosmopolitan area that offers two major regional malls, an international airport, multiple village-type shopping areas and many famous beaches. As well, Disneyland is just 18 miles away! Oh, and Angels Stadium is slightly closer than that...
NOTE: We have recently added a YouTube video to our listing that was shot for a home being built just down the street from us. We are NOT the subject of the aerial video, but our street and home are seen frequently by the drone. Our home is the grey/white Cape Cod with the round deck on the second floor directly across the street from the house with the big bright red awning. The red awning serves as a good marker for our house as you fly around our corner of Little Balboa Island!
