Charming Home in Beautiful Surroundings
Our family of four enjoyed a great 5 days in this house, located in a very cool and quaint little hamlet in the mountains. (My first hamlet in 47 years.)The place has an interesting history about it, which we were eager to learn.
Anneliese and her family were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had regarding the area, and they were quick to resolve any issues with our stay.
Their wonderful recommendations included a trip to the Zauberwald, which was great fun for the boys (6 and 11). Also in the area is the Brigerbad thermal park. As far as kids water parks go, this one was very clean, not so crowded (even on a "busy" day), and reasonably priced. Finally, especially awesome was a gondola ride and hike to the Aletsch Glacier, only minutes from this property.
Even without a drive anywhere, however, just a hike in the neighborhood was worth the trip. There is a kids park and mini-golf nearby, and plenty of paths for hiking or biking, though be prepared to sweat.
This trip was meant to be a stopover on our way from Germany to Italy for a longer stay, but if we only had this on the itinerary, the vacation would have been complete. Highly recommended.
Nice and cozy place in a beautiful surrounding
Nothing fancy but very cozy! We, a family of 5 spend a few days in this lovely hamlet. During the day we explored nature in the area which is absolutely beautiful. At the end of the day we enjoyed the garden of the hamlet for a drink and to relax.
We loved the quiet charming village setting!
Great spot to explore the amazing Swiss mountains of the valais! Owner aneliese is very nice and a great host. We loved the quiet traditional Swiss village setting and the amazing views. Would definitely recommend chalet alpenrose! Perfect location to explore zermatt and the matterhorn, the aletsch arena and all the rest of the amazing valais!
Very cozy and quaint. Fun getting there, but excellent directions. Clean, quiet, relaxing.
We had a great time at Anneliese's place! Clean, comfortable, well supplied and great hosts!
The house is wooden and very authentic for the region. Sits up on a hill so car came in very convenient, and provides for feeling of quietness and relaxation. It was very easy to get to Betten where we got a cable car and then did an amazing hike right next to Aletsch Glacier and even got to go under it and on top of it! The hosts are awesome, responding quickly to messages, easy to communicate with, provided good description to find the house and came to greet us even though we arrived past 10pm! Made sure we felt comfortable and quickly responded positively with our hair dryer request.
The beds are comfortable, cozy and warm although the rooms are rather small. The bathroom is new and great to take shower after exhaustive hike :). The kitchen is old but very well equipped so felt really comfortable. The only stretch to make this an excellent host experience would be to include towels as complementary. But I'd love to stay again at their place when I come back to this region and stay longer. It's a very beautiful area of Switzerland!
Thank you for your positive review about our holidayapartment.
We’re glad that you appreciated the feeling of quietness and relaxation.
Then towels are actually not included, but if our guests forget to take towels with them, we provide the towels naturally, no problem.
We hope you would have someday time to come back to Grengiols and stay longer.
We wish you all the best and send greetings from Grengiols
A wonderful stay at Alpenrose
We had a wonderful 5 days at Alpenrose. My wife and I are both over 65, so our introduction to Alpenrose was a bit scary. Alpenrose is about a 10 minute walk up a steep road from Grengiols, which is itself well above the teeny train station. But Anneliese and Ignaz (and their whole family - tres charmant) were super.
GRENGIOLS = very pretty, very quiet, very nice. All the people we met were helpful and friendly. The ladies in the grocery store (and Tourism Office) helped us with groceries and wine and cheese. The local cheese, by the way is Incredibly good. The elderly lady who runs the restaurant (recommended by Ignaz) was well worth the visit - good food, pleasant atmosphere, cold beer, and a couple of local patrons helped us translate our English to German. Jawohl. BettmerAlp, RiederAlp, Oberwald, Brig, all within easy/fast train from Grengiols station. Zermatt, Spiez and Interlaken within an hour or two train ride through very beautiful country. We did not rent an auto, but it was very easy to get around wherever we wanted to go by train and/or bus.
ALPENROSE = a nice apartment with beautiful views out of almost every window. A nicely equipped kitchen, very functional. Living room was super - TV, WiFi, DVD player, wood-burning stove (additional wood for the stove "Magically" appeared on our doorstep each day), mood lighting. Lovely walks everywhere, right from the front door, through flower covered hillsides. We ended several of our day trips by sitting on the courtyard or in the backyard, enjoying the views while having a bit of cheese, some sausage and a glass (or two?) of wine.
ANNELIESE & IGNAZ = the best part of the whole vacation. Very interesting and friendly people who, along with their whole family, and even the other nearby villagers, are super! Anneliese was happy to drive us to&from the train station, picked up the heavy groceries we had bought in Grengiols so we wouldn't have to carry them uphill (We did carry our important items - Wine & Cheese, HaHa) and made our stay incredibly enjoyable. Merci, Danke, Gracias, Thank You. We had a teeny problem with the WiFi (occasionally it would drop my connection) which Anneliese got fixed right away.
One of our best vacations ever. We loved it, and hope to come back sometime to enjoy it again.
