The Pink Haveli is a tiny apartment with a terrace in Juhu Koliwada, a traditional fishing village of Mumbai. It is situated close to the beach, with a small temple close by, surrounded by picturesque lanes and colourful houses. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and everything you need for a comfortable and homely stay in the city.
My apartment is in a super interesting neighbourhood, Juhu Koliwada, where fisherwomen cook and children run around downstairs in the small lanes, and sunshine and songs drift through open windows.
It is a tiny apartment with a terrace, which is very homely and has everything to cook a meal, do your laundry, or to relax with a beer on the terrace in the cool evening air.
It is situated 5min from the beach, 15min from the domestic airport and 25min from the international airport (during no traffic hours). Close by are Juhu Beach, ISKCON, Amitabh Bacchan's house, Santacruz train station, Prithvi Theatre, Juhu PVR, and many restaurants and cafes.
Please note that this is a very authentic neighbourhood with mostly Koli families living here, who are fishermen and the original inhabitants of the place now called Mumbai. They have a philosophy of life where it is important to share their food and space with other living beings around them, so you will see a lot of cats, crows, and rats sharing food leftovers in the downstairs area outside my house. Also, all the cooking, laundry, and dirty dishes are done downstairs, which can make the area look messy.
Since mostly families live here, things settle down and get quiet by 11pm. Unless, there is a festival or a wedding happening. Then drums and an eclectic music mix, ranging from Bollywood to Lavani to Portuguese to Reggaeton could sound all through the night. And since the apartment is so close to the airport, you will hear airplanes taking off.
So if you are very particular about cleanliness and absolute silence, this area might not be a good fit for you. Things are very organic, and yes quite messy around here where life with a mix of children, cooking smells, laundry soap rivulets, music sounds, drum beats, rats, and crows happens every day on the footsteps of the Pink Haveli.
