La Lune Frenchdreamcottages

La Lune has been described as our ‘chocolate box cottage,’ as you will see from the photographs. Set at the rear of the gardens it is very private, ideal for those who want a quite romantic holiday. The cottage has a living/dining room with traditional Louise XIV furniture, candles and a wood burning stove. The cottage has a fully fitted kitchen, there is also a shower room with toilet and basin.

The bedroom with its king size bed has French windows which lead directly onto a private terrace and garden area which has sun and shade all day long there is garden furniture, sunbeds and a private BBQ.

We are often asked what is upstair there are windows, the answer is nothing, the windows are access to the loft and the water heater.

About the property

Les Frippieres Loire Valley

With over 100 5 * reviews Ken and Liz Mason are the resident owners of three 350 year old self catering romantic stone cottages with beamed ceilings and Terracotta floors, set in an acre of award winning gardens with its own private swimming pool nestling on the edge of a lovely French hamlet surrounded by open fields in the heart of the Loire Valley. To maintain the tranquillity of the setting and to ensure total relaxation during your holiday with us we only accept adults.

Each cottage has its own private area of garden, we have tried to broaden the range of plants in the garden so that no matter what time of the year you chose to visit there will be plenty to look at.

Look at our own web site:

There are too many flowers and shrubs to mention but we do have many types of clematis, honeysuckle, rose, grape vines, jasmine, sweet pea, laveteria and lavender. If you enjoy home cooking, our herb garden provides you with a multitude of herbs.

For those that are interested in food we have numerous Restaurants in the area ranging from those were a good 3 course lunch with wine can be had for about €13 to Michelin Starred Restaurants which are obviously more expensive but certainly better value than would be expected in the UK.

The region is home to the finest goat’s cheese producers and winemaking has been deeply rooted here for centuries. This area is simply known as France’s ‘Bread Basket’

Nature: Wild Life abounds in the area with its many Rivers and Forests, nearby is the regional park La Brenne, an area of some 166,000 hectors with over 2000 man made lakes of various sizes.

An amazing diversity of natural habitats is responsible for an abundance of wildlife of which the best know are the: Purple Heron, Black necked Grebe, wetland warblers, Bittern, March Harrier, Whiskered Tern, Short-toed eagle together with water birds to numerous to mention. In the surrounding forests you can find many species of Deer and Wild Boar.

In our own gardens we have done everything we can to encourage wild life and we have numerous species of birds such as, Red Leged Partridge, Black Redstart, Fieldfare, Cirl Buntings, Great, Blue Tits, Sparrows, Swallows, House Martin, Kestral, Fly Catchers and numerous types of owls to mention just a few. We also have a number of Red Squirrels that visit the garden on a regular basis.

About Liz and Ken Mason

We are both originally from Ireland but lived in England for all of our married life.

After ending our careers Liz as a nurse and mine in business we decided to purchase Les Frippierers in 2005 and to start a new period of our life here in France.

Liz and Ken Mason purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Liz and Ken Mason chose Chaumussay

We offer 3 different properties each with it's own individual style and layout, all fitted to a high standard. The cottages are set in just over a acre of award winning gardens and each property has it's own private piece.

We only offer the cottages to couples and therefore the ambiance is quite and peaceful, set in part of the garden is our heated swimming pool which you can sit beside or just visit from your own garden and cool down.

Luxury Gites for 2 in the beautiful Dordogne

Domaine de Fumel

The 14m x 7m swimming pool has a deep end of 2.2m and a shallow end of 0.9m with roman steps. It is near the edge of a gentle grass slope and benefits from pastoral views and inspiring sunsets. Plenty of sun beds are provided around the pool, which is diligently covered every night to retain the solar gain in temperature.

Time, care and effort have been spent with selecting the right contents for each beautifully furnished home to make them as perfect as possible. They all have china, plenty of glasses (very essential!), pots and pans etc., a large fridge with separate freeze compartment, gas fired oven and 4 burner hob, washing machine, dish-washer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, iron and cold box for food shopping and picnics. Pure bliss

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly relaxing and our hosts Liz & Ken couldn't be more helpful. A place to re-charge the batteries, drink wine and fill up on bread, cheese and fine meats.

A very pretty rural gite

  • 4 of 5

A lovely gite and we were well looked after by Ken and Liz. Although the weather wasn't as good as we expected we enjoyed going round the various villages, markets, chateau and gardens. We recommend it for anyone who wants a relaxing and peaceful holiday.

Charmining detached cottage, quiet with your own space in superb surroundings with everything we need

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks in June weather great.Location excellent with plenty of markets,Cathedrals & Chateaux's to visit with one hour driving & at the end of the day return for a lazy swim in the heated pool. The location is very quiet & peaceful in a small hamlet of 4/5 cottages.I have 2 grandchildren but no children is good. We never eat out although Ken told us of good restaurants in the area .Barbecues or cooked chicken & potatoes form the markets with salad was our choice which is what we have done for the past 11 years visiting all regions of France. This is the best cottage, location & owners we have had in11 years.Ken & Liz keep a low profile ,which makes you feel the place is your own, but if you need any help with anything they cannot be more helpfull. The gardens are excellent thanks to Kens loving care with bees & butterflys are a bonus.

Beautiful cottage and gardens in peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend these beautiful cottages in a peaceful rural location with wonderful gardens. Very lovely owners who care about ensuring your stay meets your expectation. Intelligently and tastefully furnished, La Lune is chocolate box pretty with the most comfortable king size bed I've stayed in away from home. The small kitchen is perfectly equipped and we cook most nights (it's France - the produce is wonderful) however there are also excellent local restaurants. Do go to L'Image in Preuilly sur Claise, owned by two brothers and a wife. The food is outstanding and the owners so friendly they spent time with us even though our French is poor. So much to see and do near Les Frippieres, please visit the remembrance centre in Maillè, where 124 villagers were killed during the second world war. A tragic story told on a film avaliable in many languages told by the survivors, it is a little known story and again the staff will spend time with you. Of course the chateaux's and wineries are excellent and Les Frippieres is the perfect Base. We don't tend to go back to places but certainly would here.

A Heavenly Week Away

  • 5 of 5

As I normally lead a hectic London life surrounded by people and the pressure of deadlines, I found my recent week in La Lune a veritable paradise. The cottage has a beautiful decor, all the facilities you could need and is clean and well-maintained. As I greatly needed to just be, instead of always doing, I very much enjoyed the peaceful tranquility of the secluded gardens and the lovely pool, and the scent from the lavender and roses outside was just intoxicating! Liz and Ken are very generous and accommodatingly friendly hosts who helped me whenever there was something that needed dealing with i.e. dropping off at the shops in Le Grand Pressigny, booking of taxis etc. The only downside was some slightly cloudy days as well as one whole day of rain and thunder. A week away in their cottage really did the trick and I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. I will be telling my friends about it and am planning to return myself next year!! :-)

Recreational opportunities abound in the region. Biking on the almost traffic-free country roads alongside the wide rivers, privately-owned châteaux and red-roofed villages, certainly qualifies as one of the most delightful activities. The many rivers which honeycomb the area, from the Creuse to the Gartempe to the Anglin, will be of special interest to swimmers and those who enjoy fishing. Bird watching is especially well-rewarded in the Regional Park of the Brenne, a wildlife refuge. For those who would like to be a little more energetic why not borrow our bikes and try one of the easy local bike rides and of course there are plenty of local walks, we also have local stables and tennis courts. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by Golf Courses which are underplayed for most of year, our nearest is just 15 mins away.

Other Activities: Bird Watching, Chateaux

Golf: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by quality golf courses that are not only quiet but affordable. Our nearest club is the 18 hole Golf du Connetable at La Roche Posay, just 15 minutes away and is a challenge for all standard of golfers. This ‘Woburnesk’ course is set amongst conifers with oaked lined fairways, wildlife is plentiful Red Squirrel’s abound and don’t be surprised to see the odd Stag or Boar running off into the forest. Golf de La Roche Posay

At Loches we have the 9 hole Golf Loches Verneuil which has been built in association with St. Andrews. Golf Loches Verneuil

Just outside Chatellerault is the Golf du Haut Poitou, here we have both a 9 and 18 hole course set around a large lake, again the 18 hole course is a challenge to all. Golf du Haut Poitou

A bit further out is the Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir, this beautiful course is set in the grounds of an old 19th centaury Victorian style manor which is now an hotel. Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
