Beautifully converted 150-year-old farmhouse with the aim of maintaining the rustic style, which is so typical for Gozo farmhouses, but combining this with modern comfort. It comprises a total area of 350 m2 with a sitting room, large dining/living room with dining table and sofa, partly open kitchen and toilet/washing room at the ground floor.

The kitchen has all amenities and the wash room contains a washing machine. Wide doors give easy access to a spacious garden with a 30-m2 pool, pool shower, barbecue, gazebo and garden furniture, overlooking the fields.

A classical stairs with skylight leads to the second floor with 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 luxury bathrooms, of which one is en-suite. Two bedrooms have double beds, one has two singles. Two of the bedrooms have balconies, offering nice views over the fields/part of town. All furniture is first class pine. The house is well furnishing with a combination of classical pine and rattan. AC is available for the master bedroom ( at a small extra charge) , capable of cooling other (bed)rooms to a degree.Ceiling & Standing fans are installed as is a free Wireless network ( code protected)

Hi , I am Dutch by nationality and married since 1982 to a Maltese lady. My profession has made us live for the last 25 + years in 8 different countries around the world and we recently decided to settle down in Portugal .

Why Frans Spijker chose Malta

Considering our strong family ties with Malta we always wanted to purchase some property on the sister island of Gozo. Why Gozo ? because it is much quieter and more intimate than Malta, also greener throughout the year with lovely beaches close by.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We purchased this property at the time and had it converted because we loved the location being on the outskirts of Xaghra ,with green areas behind,the possibility to have a nice garden, quietness but nevertheless still with all amenities of Xaghra within walking distance (10-15 mins)

Family friendly home

We spent 2 weeks at the villa Arzella summer '08 and found the villa to be perfect for our family group. We took 2 children (7 and 9) and found the outside space to be private and fully enclosed for their safety. The pool was excellent and essential in the extreme summer heat but we were glad we took our own pool toys! The house has all the basics you'll need for an enjoyable holiday and the outside eating areas were perfect. For those of you in a car be prepared to park on a pretty narrow road outside the property. We had a 72 year old in our group who found the property to her liking but suffered for the lack of air conditioning. (There are fans though in each room which were ESSENTIAL). The property is about a 10 minute walk from the village of Xaghra which has shops, banks (but no ATM) and nice restaurants. The Gozitan people are lovely and like the English which is a rare bonus in the present political climate! The children found the lack of decent Sky channels frustrating for what bit of TV viewing they did and the cooker was a bit of a challenge for those of us who are not microwave fans but overall we loved the property and would definitely go back in the future!

Ideal place for a vacation

This was our second time at this wonderful house, which is situated in a very peaceful area. The service was once again impeccable; place was found very clean we will definitely come back next year. Thanks Frans

Beautiful farmhouse

We arrived in Gozo earlier this week after staying in a gorgeous brand new luxury apartment in Sliema, Malta. When we arrived at Arzella we realised just how soulless the new apartment had been in comparison to the charm of this beautiful, rustic, almost quaint farmhouse. Lovely spacious rooms with everything you require for a lovely holiday. There are large arched French doors that lead out into the beautiful garden which was the highlight of this gorgeous place. Really the photos just don't do it justice. Yes I would recommend Arzella and yes I would love to stay here again. The only negative thing is that we are only here for 4 nights, wish it were longer!

Excellent place for relaxing holiday.

Place was found very clean, pool area is wonderful. Location is very quiet, though less than 2 minutes drive away from all amenities. The property caretaker was very helpful, she was always there when we needed her. I would definitely go back for another holiday in the future.

Really nice property.

Just returned from two weeks staying at Arzella. It is a really nice property with three good sized bedrooms, the master being en suite with a bath and hand held shower. The other two bedrooms share the shower room . All beds were comfortable and the rooms had ceiling fans although these move slowly so had to be supplemented by the other fans in the property. The master bedroom is now air conditioned and it was great to escape the heat and be cool at night (Worth the extra few Euros).

Downstairs is a small functional kitchen, good hob and working oven. All the items needed were present for inside and a bbq. The formal living room is comfortable and a nice area to read, the TV room has a number of channels via cable TV in various languages, a couple in English but fairly limited. DVD player with supplied movies and some books are available. Large table and chairs. Small room with a toilet and washing machine below the stairs.

Outside is where the property wins hands down, a garden table with chairs near the house with a large umbrella and a BBQ. Two sun loungers (it would be nice to have two more available with padded mats?) Nice pool which was cleaned and maintained to a high standard by the lovely pool man. The garden area leads to the shady pagoda under the trees, all of which can be illuminated at night. We spent a lot of time in the garden and it really is as nice as it looks in the pictures.

To the front of the property the door leads onto a road which is not busy but it is narrow and parking is tight.

Xhagra itself is a nice town, it is being developed in the square at the moment which is noisy and dusty during the day but OK for meals in the various restaurants of an evening.

It's a shame to mention a negative but we did suffer from the inconsiderate neighbours, yes I know it's Malta and things are different but using a Pneumatic drill, loud cutting tools and hammering at 6.30 in the morning is not great, especially on a Sunday! The noise on some days was relentless and did spoil the otherwise tranquil surroundings.

Would I stay at this property again, yes but not if the builders are still working next door! It would also be nice to have air con in the other two bedrooms, having it in one is nice but not so much if you are staying in the other two bedrooms. We did have a heatwave so it was very hot during our stay, even the locals made mention of it.

They are indeed completing a reconstruction project but obviously that shouldn't mean starting at 06.30 in the morning including Sundays ! Super Farmhaus

Wir haben im Haus Arzella einen Familienurlaub mit 6 Personen gemacht und waren sehr glücklich. Besonders hat uns die Aufteilung und der kleine Garten gefallen. Da wir schon oft auf Gozo waren können wir sagen das die Ausstattung perfekt war und die angebotenen Transfers super funktioniert haben ,vielen dank an dieser Stelle.
