Born In Winterthur (CH), today I live with my family in Dongo (Como). Graduate in electrical engineering, I have worked for 30 years with a Finnish company, first as manager Automation, then as a sales manager for the French and German market. Now I dedicate myself to restructure everything smells of antique: old stone houses, vintage cars and motorcycles . Favorite sport: skiing, windsurfing, hiking,
Mauro Almici purchased this House in 1997
Why Mauro Almici chose Cremia
I've renovated these houses , because for me they always had a magical taste. Here, by my grandparents and uncles, as a child I always spent my holidays: green meadows, lake and relax. I took personally care to all the details to ensure an authentic atmosphere, however integrated with all the amenities that have improved the quality of life.
What makes this House unique
The wonderful view of the lake, which can be enjoyed from the terraces has since always, extended lunch and dinner time: man does not live by bread alone. The cozy atmosphere of the benches around the fireplace, they never did regret the lack of television. Today, even if there is satellite TV, the atmosphere remains still as ... as before.

Lovely villa with 6 star owner
We had a lovely week-long stay at this villa and were welcomed by Mauro who was very helpful throughout our stay. We appreciated the bottle of local wine that he provided on our arrival. There are amazing views of the lake from the two sunny balconies. We were two couples using one double bedroom and one twin. There are no en suites but an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs one. I think it is worth knowing that the villa is a 7 minute walk from the car park along a former donkey track. Mauro hauled our luggage on a trolley. He provided a torch, although you may also want to take your own, for returning to the villa after eating at one of the local restaurants. There is a steep walk down to the two restaurants in the village which is fine, whilst the return walk after a big meal requires effort.
We had generally good weather but on one wet day we appreciated the wood burning fire in the lounge and we also roasted chestnuts that we collected on local paths. There is a small supermarket 5 minutes walk up the hill.
A car is useful for this accommodation so as to explore the surrounding towns and villages. Primary school children and young teenagers would enjoy sleeping on each of the platforms above the two bedrooms so the accommodation could accommodate 2 families of 4 at a very reasonable price. We liked the fact that it was out of the tourist areas and less commercial than many of the more famous resorts.
We spend 4 days end of April /beg. May in “ Villa Iolanda “ and find this place very quite and romantic .The house was well equipped and convenient for 2 families.
Mauro, the owner of the house, is warm ,affable and accurate man
We will recommend this place for all who would like to escape for few days from the urban life
and to stay close to Lago di Como

The reviews say it all
The reviews say it all, every one excellent and worthy of five stars. This stone house has clearly been restored with great precision and care, and importantly, with a sense of warmth and generosity by the owner. The house, with its expert touches and clever use of beautiful, natural timber finishes and tiling, is extremely comfortable and a wonderful place to come back to after a day of sightseeing, hiking or just relaxing by the lake. Mauro himself, is a five and a half star host, considerate, knowledgeable, and always helpful. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to him about the area and its history, and his life experiences, and I thank him for so kindly giving of his time.
Wonderful house located at a wonderful location
We, family of five (three young children), really enjoyed our stay in Villa Iolanda due to its stunning interior and exterior appearance, tidyness and location.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the most kind owner Mauro on the public parking space and were then escorted to the house via a six minute walk on a donkey trail to the entrance of the house. In the meantime, Mauro helped us carrying our bags with an electric cart. Don't let the short walk scare you off, it is a comfortably hike along typical Italian houses and landscape with view on the lake.
The house and the views on the lake as shown on the pictures are even better in real life. It is difficult to capture the atmosphere and the coherence of all rooms, but the pictures sum it up quite well.
The house is well equipped and you will find all the materials you need to make a proper meal (both in the kitchen as well outside on the BBQ) and to have a comfortable stay.
In the near vicinity there is a lot to do: hiking (to San Dominica church up the hill), swimming (public beach in Cremia, 5 min walk), diner (La Baia), boat trip (from Menaggio to Bellagio or Varenna), caves, etc. But even sitting outside on the terrace or one of the balconies and watch the sailboats on the lake was something we did very often. And at night looking at all the lights across the lake. One time we even witnessed a fireworks display on the other side of the lake.
Bread can be bought every morning in a small supermarket up the hill (5 min walk), as well as other basic groceries. Larger supermarkets can be found when you search for Iperal, Conad, Carrefour or Bennet.
We only stayed for one week and then went on to Switzerland, but we wished we could stay one week longer.
One final word about Mauro: in 2,5 years he renovated the house by himself in a way you will rarely see again. The level of detail (both construction and decoration) is astonishing. Apart from this, he is also the best host you can imagine. He is open to every question you have and he will do its utmost best to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
We definitely hope to come back to Villa Iolanda and the Como lake again!
