Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms in private Villa, minutes from Samara Beach. Hilltop tropical view

** New ** Our completely renovated private villa is set in our hilltop private community in a lush, tropical setting with *stunning* jungle views. A beautiful retreat for couples, families & friends! Set in a quiet, private and secure hilltop environment, yet just minutes away to all amenities and 2 beaches.

Set in a private hilltop development of only 12 exclusive villas (Proyecto Loma Verde), Casa Michèle is truly exclusive, yet so close to the beautiful town and beaches of Samara.

- Playa Buenavista is a short 9-min walk just down the hill from the Villa. It's a long and gorgeous uninhabited beach sought by surfers for it's remarkable waves. Beautiful sunsets are just steps away!

- Playa Samara is very close by: 1,4 miles (2,3km) (a 5-minute drive, or 25-minute walk). It's a beautiful beach to spend the day at: restaurants set on the beach w/ wifi, long walks, shopping...

Casa Michele is a lovely open-concept, two-story family villa, which was recently completely renovated and features plenty of indoor and outdoor living space with magnificent tropical mountain views (over 270°!).

The house has lofted ceilings with beautiful local hardwood and tile floors, walk-in tiled shower with glass-block wall and a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a butcher block. On the second level is a huge lofted master bedroom (queen bed) on hardwood floors w/ half bath which occupies the entire 2nd-level. Two other double bedrooms on located on the main level.

Enjoy leisurely afternoons in the hammocks under the huge tropical rancho made of real palms leaves or cool off in our private 14x20ft tiled pool + outdoor nature shower as you watch parrots fly through the surrounding tree tops and palm trees, iguanas taking in the sun on the flagstone and monkeys... just monkeying around.

The large outdoor patio is covered in local flagstone (won't burn feet in the hot sun). The house is set atop the seaside hills, so it's naturally breezy and *very well ventilated*; the natural breezes flow freely through the house. There is no air conditioning at Casa Michele (no need for it!). We are also proud to say that each of our bedrooms is equipped with top-quality mattresses, pillows and bedding.

The Villa has new louvered windows & screens, and each bedroom is equipped with ceiling fans (4 new ceiling fans on the upper level in the Master Bedroom) to ensure optimal comfort yet as close to nature as possible.

The kitchen is very well equipped with all new appliances, including a Butcher block and a water purifying system (inverse osmosis) in the Bodega for your carefree enjoyment. Includes stainless steel fridge/freezer/dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, gourmet glass top cooking, and a dining room for 8. All furniture is made of local solid wood. A new Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother are at you disposal (bring your own original Nespresso coffee pods)

Bedroom 1 - 12'x11' ground level with 1 Queen bed, safe, wardrobe and ceiling fan

Bedroom 2 - 12'x11' ground level with 2 twin beds, wardrobe and ceiling fan

Bedroom 3 - 26'x24' Master suite on entire 2nd floor with 1 Queen bed, private sink & toilet, 6 large wardrobes and 4 ceiling fans

Bathroom - 12'x7' ground level with 5' solid wood vanity, tile shower and glass block wall

Bodega (laundry room) with washer and purified (inverse-osmosis) water system

Private 1-car garage with electric door

Alarm system

As we are located on a private and steep hilltop, and Samara is such a beautiful region to visit - so much to see and do! -, we do highly recommend the use of a car during your stay. 4x4s are highly recommended during the Green season.

You may choose to take a leisurely short 9-min walk down to Buenavista beach, sought for its unique waves by many surfers. It's a short 5-min drive (or 25 min walk) to the fabulous Samara Beach, less than 1,4 miles (2,3km) away. Be sure to try out some of the local restaurants, directly on the beach (feet in the sand with wifi and drink in hand), and grab a few of the incredible papayas, mangoes, melons and bananas as you walk by the local markets. Such a treat!

There is a large flatscreen TV and private internet (Wi-Fi) so you can stay connected, watch movies and listen to music, *even while under the palm Rancho*, as you watch the monkeys playing in the surrounding trees, or imitate a lazy iguana sunbathing nearby.

Though Casa Michele is set hilltop in a quiet and secure private community, it remains close to everything, and it has it's own security system for your peace of mind. Our Loma Verde private community has certain restrictions, *including no pets* as we wish to encourage the local fauna and flora. The Villa is non-smoking. We thank you for not smoking inside Casa Michèle.

Many inclusions in our rental fee : bed linens, kitchen towels, many pool and bath towels, a new charcoal BBQ grill for the best grilled dinners and Nespresso coffee machine & milk frother (don't forget your Nespresso pods!). The weekly housecleaning, pool maintenance and groundskeeping is included, to ensure you and your family's stay is most enjoyable. Our local caretaker/concierge couple are neighbours and friends; they help us manage the property and they live nearby. They are very knowledgeable about the area and will ensure you don't miss a thing.

We're sure you'll love Casa Michele and your Costa Rican experience as much as we did the first time we visited the Samara region!

Come and experience la PURA VIDA at Casa Michèle!

About Caroline De Guire

Michèle and André live in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. They've been married for over 50 years. After a trip to Costa Rica, they fell in love with Sàmara, its luxurious vegetation and the local people (and monkeys and iguanas!).

A few short months later, they purchased their private hilltop Villa in Samara and proceeded to update it with modern amenities, even adding a 2nd story. It is now a beautiful family 'tropical villa' jungalow and they are so very happy to share it with you. "Nous parlons Français". "We speak English".

Caroline De Guire purchased this villa in 2012

Why Caroline De Guire chose Guanacaste

Set in a private hilltop development of only 12 exclusive villas (Proyecto Loma Verde), Casa Michèle is truly exclusive, yet so close to the beautiful town and beaches of Samara.

Samara's beach town provides a charming balance of a typical Costa Rican atmosphere with the locals. From one end to the other, its enormous beach stretches some 3 miles (5 km), and a number of unique beaches are found nearby. To the north lies the gorgeous Playa Barigones and to the south sits Carillo and Punta Islita. We are very short walking distance to the gorgeous and unhabited Playa BuenaVista with it's breathtaking sunsets. There are plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy, including horseback riding, bike rentals, kayaking, snorkeling, and fishing tours.

What makes this villa unique

Completely renovated with an additional story. Additional tropical landscaping and a true-charcoal BBQ grill, all new stainless steel appliances, plenty of top-quality linens and towels are just some of the perks of the private Villa... We love making our guests' stay enjoyable. :-) Welcome Home and PURA VIDA.

Our stay at Casa Michele was great. In the middle of the Jungle on the top of a mountain with an incredible view.

Very quiet and private place, it has everything you need for a nice vacation.

We had a great week in Costa Rica , Samara.

Such a majestic view and beautiful villa. The pool is fantastic and inviting. We spent 10 days with our 2 teenagers discovering local Samara and exploring wonderous Monteverde (a couple of nights offsite).

The daily critters (iguana, monkeys) and incredible array of birds made us feel in the heart of it all. Lounging in the hammocks during the hot afternoons and star gazing in the evening was soooo relaxing.

Most nights, we would drive down to the main Samara or Carrillo Beaches for the sunset 'finaly' and sit down at one of the beach restaurants to enjoy local food, beers, drinks and awesome Tuna steaks. We did do some charcoal BBQing (great one!) a couple of nights, and fully enjoyed the villa and super comfy rooms. We loved the water-purifying system and stainless steel appliances and there's a ton of kitchen gadgets.

My personal favorite was simply walking down from the villa to nearby Buena Vista Beach, 1 hour before Low-Tide to cross the river (below knee-level) and access this exclusive and very private huge stretch of sandy beach. Walking up then down for a couple of hours, finding some sand-dollars and a couple of sea shells near the crashing waves was PURA VIDA indeed. Buena Vista sunsets are my favorite... and so so close to the villa.

PURA VIDA.

Quiet escape from hectic schedule.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Michele was great. The pool view is exactly as seen in the photo. So glad we had the pool given the extremely hot weather during our stay (and the hammocks provided great afternoon naps!). The privacy the location provides is wonderful and it is peaceful. We were able to watch families of howler monkeys pass by the house through the adjacent trees a couple of nights. We also experienced their "communications" in early am a couple of mornings (glad we knew what the sound was before we heard them!). Enjoyed watching the wildlife in general (coatie coming for a drink in the pool, racoon, iguana, squirrel). The town of Samara is what we were looking for; not too touristy, smaller, friendly and helpful people. Our favorite restaurant was "Mama Gui" (Italian cuisine). We did a dolphin tour and were amazed at the number of dolphins we saw. Also did the McCaw and kayak river tour which were both good. The tour guides were very personable and pleasant. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend Casa Michele for anyone looking for a great getaway.

We enjoyed our stay in Samara and at Casa Michele. We loved the Samara area and the great restaraunts. We loved Playa Samara and Playa Carilla and exploring the area. The listing

talks about Playa Buenavista and I was excited about having a beach so close. However when we walked to the beach and saw the warning sign for crocodiles in the estuary we decided to pass. We loved hearing the howler monkeys each morning and looking up at the stars at night. We also enjoyed our time by the pool and laying in the hammocks. I will mention that during our stay the internet connection was poor/nonexistent and most days we could not connect with our children back home before leaving for the day. The internet never worked outside. The listing stated there was a local Costa Rica cell phone available for the guests which I would have been more comfortable with considering the internet issues in case you needed to contact the caretakers.

Owner's Response: We're happy you enjoyed you stay in the lovely Samara region! The nearby BuenaVista beach does have spectacular sunsets and is a great spot to walk to. We have been in contact with out local internet providers to check with the unfortunate internet issues you encountered during your stay and they have since been resolved; We've actually doubled up the line. Scott & Linda, our friendly local anglophone caretakers, are always willing and able to gladly help with any issues. All local beach restaurants have free internet, so all our guests are never without resources for contacts. Our main priority: Your enjoyment of the Pura Vida while at Casa Michèle! Merci d'avoir été des nôtres.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible vacation at Casa Michele (me, my husband, and our 6 and 8 year old boys). The pool was absolutely gorgeous and well-maintained, and the hammocks are unbelievably comfortable. The views are stunning, the house is well-equipped and beautiful- we want to come back next year! The beaches in the area are lovely and perfect for swimming and surfing. The wildlife around the house is awesome- coatis, howler monkeys, raccoons and iguanas. If you're traveling with kids, you might want to show them a video of what a howler monkey looks like and how such a cute and harmless animal can make such a big noise- our kids were a little bit scared by the noise at first and then entertained once they figured it out. :) Thank you a million times for sharing your slice of paradise with us- I wish we could have stayed for a month instead of a week!

Pool and View were Amazing!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here almost a week, after being in Tamarindo. We much preferred the quiet, laid back vibe of Samara. Tamarindo was OK, but more expensive and always windy with rocky swimming areas. As for our stay at Casa Michele, we were really happy with it, but we really missed A/C. It gets so hot and by 10 am you don't want to be in the house if you don't have to. Sleeping was difficult in this heat.. But we aren't used to it, coming from Canada. The pizotes and money's were entertaining, aside from the monkeys howling at 5 am every morning.... But it is their territory after all!! Short drive into town, too far to walk if you don't deal with heat well. Thanks for the hospitality to the owners and property manager!

It's so easy to spend lazy hours on the terrasse and under the rancho just gazing out into the lush tropical surrounding and soaking in sun, pool and fun. We're so happy your family enjoyed Casa Michèle! Our Loma Verde private community goes the extra length to protect the local wildlife so you may enjoy them up close. Thank you for sharing your experience and travel tips with us; I'm sure it'll be helpful to all!

"One of the safest and prettiest beaches in the country is Playa Samara...."

"Playa Samara is the perfect long white sand beach with shallow, gentle waters."

-The Key to Costa Rica

Samara has a superb coral reef and its own picturesque wooded island in the bay ~ Isla Chora. It's popular with swimmers and windsurfers, and it's an ideal beach for your kids.

Samara is not only a charming beach resort, with a wide choice of friendly and attractive hotels, restaurants, bars and discos, but, unlike other Pacific Ocean resorts, it is also a thriving fishing and farming community.

There are fishing boats returning at sunset, exotic fruit harvests, specialty and organic farming, tree nurseries and reforestation projects and many other authentic and vital Sámara activities. There are unusual plant and animal species, ancient Indian sites, underwater caves and coastal and mountain nature trails.

Guitar, Spanish, aerobic and dancing lessons and massages are available. And there is even a Sámara art gallery with its own resident artist.
