We live in a small rural community in the interior of British Columbia and enjoy getting away from the long Canadian winter.
Carolyn purchased this House in 2009
Why Carolyn chose Aticama
After waiting 20 years to go on a honeymoon, we settled on a rental in Aticama and fell in love with the peace and quiet, the people, the beach, the weather, the list is long!! A surprising opportunity presented itself and Casa Carolina came to be. We plan on retiring there in 10 years but in the meantime we would like to share our home so people can discover this charming little village for themselves.

Spectacular Home, Breathtaking views!
This house is even better then advertised and we had an amazing vacation in this home. The rooms are big, the beds are super comfortable and the home has all the amenities you need without compromising the Mexican decor and style. The pool is very clean and refreshing first thing in the morning or after a day of adventure. The garden is full of butterflies, beautiful plants and flowers all in a very private setting. The home overlooks the friendly town of Aticama and the views from the rooftop of the ocean and lush vegetation are spectacular. Carolyn was a super helpful host and was quick to respond to questions about the home and travel in Mexico. There is great information at the house with tips and contact numbers for everything from surfing lessons, great restaurants, spectacular beaches, crocodile tours and adventures in the area. We would highly recommend this home for your travel and we hope to return in the future.
Wow, thank you so much for your great review. We appreciate you taking the time to put into words how you felt about your stay and we are very glad you had a wonderful time.
Wonderful place to relax
Casa Carolina is a wonderful place, very clean and well equipped with everything I needed for a very comfortable and relaxing vacation. The pool was perfect and the small garden had lots of beautiful flowers to enjoy. The beach is amazing with a great new pier and restaurants. Aticama is a very authentic Mexican village with all the charm and character that you can't find in the touristy areas. A new concierge service has started which takes all the guesswork out of finding tours, fishing, where to eat, etc.
Casa Carolina is a beautiful house in a perfect setting. Living in this house was a great vacation, everything is there, from a great, beautifully equipped house, privacy, scenery, a short walk to the beach or to town.
The caretaker is available all the time and is only too happy to help with absolutely everything.
The very large deck is a great place to spend time, birds, butterflies, ocean view. The lovely landscaped property with a pool is a bonus. We enjoyed our stay so much it was difficult to leave.
Authentic Mexican Experience
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in Aticama at Carolyn's home. It was truly an authentic Mexican cultural experience. After an early morning swim (the birds and butterflies in the surrounding vegetation was surreal) in the pool our days were spent exploring mangroves, a waterfall, beaches, restaurants, historical sites and our evenings were enjoyed with games, dvds and more time in the pool. When we couldn't connect to WIFI we visited the local library 2 minutes from the house. Although we didn't meet the owner Carolyn, she was an amazing hostess... communication was quick and easy, she was sincere and tries hard to meet the needs of her guests. We will definitely be back...this home is a hidden gem. TIPS: knowing a little Spanish helped us, renting a car (which was fairly cheap) was necessary for exploring, the annoying bugs (NO-SEE-EMS and mosquitoes after sunset) were taken care of with spray, wake up in the morning with a camera in your hand because when you first open your eyes and you're looking through the windows you'll think your still dreaming!
Thanks so much for your awesome review, Sherry, and also thank you for your patience and understanding while we tried to figure out the wifi issue. Thankfully you found and enjoyed the many distractions that makes Aticama and area so special. It would be our pleasure to have you stay with us again.
Peaceful Getaway - Just What I Needed
The two weeks I spent at Casa Carolina are going to stay with me for a very long time. The serene, peaceful environment, the wonderful local food and culture, and the gorgeous scenery make this little home away from home a great getaway.
When I arrived, everything was ready to go. A well stocked kitchen, comfortable furniture, wonderful bedding, and an amazing shower ensure a very comfortable stay. The covered patio is perfect for drinking coffee and eating breakfast, and the pool is great for cooling off after a long walk along the never ending beach. And you would not believe the price of tacos in town! The village of Aticama, while seemingly rough around the edges, is full of wonderful, friendly locals, who will try their best to help even if you don't speak Spanish. But it is definitely an asset.
All in all, I very much enjoyed my stay at Casa Carolina, and would go back in a heartbeat.
I am so glad you felt at home and were able to enjoy all that Aticama and area had to offer, I agree that it is a very relaxing place. I have to thank you very much for your understanding when we couldn't figure out the wifi, the summer storms do a lot of damage to electronics.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review.
We had a good time
We had a good time at Carolina house, the house looks just like the pictures, kitchen is well equiped, it was clean and the surrounding was quiet. I would rent it again. I would recommend it for someone who speaks spanish and who has a car. I never found a way to walk down the trail to go to the beach...
Thanks for the great review!! Now that we are down here we can see that someone built a wall across the path so I do apologize for that. I agree that a car is necessary, glad you saw a lot of the local attractions.
There are several must-sees in the area including a boat ride through the mangroves to see lots of birds, crocodiles, fish etc., a new birdwatching platform, a beautiful waterfall, and ruins in nearby San Blas. There are markets in several neighbouring villages for souvenirs, housewares, food etc.
