What a wonderful place . John is an excellent host. He greets you when you arrive and makes sure you have everything you need. The house is awesome - very clean. lots of charm. The screened in porch was a great place to relax. Would totally book here again! Enough space for all guests. Highly recommend it!!
Breathtaking farmhouse with an amazing host.
Beautiful spacious and cozy farmhouse. 5 of us cousins stayed here for 4 nights to attend a wedding and family reunion. The Howland’s have thought of everything! The home was stocked with everything we needed from fresh towels to toiletries and we have a feeling that if we needed something we forgot our gracious host John would have seen to it! We shared our kitchen w John usually only seeing him in the mornings. He was always kind and pleasant to speak with and he always had the best stories from the past and knew all there was to know about his town and the surrounding areas. He was also so fun and put up with all of our picture requests on his front steps! With 2 tv’s, 2 full baths, 4 beds, and amble seating inside and outside on the screened in porch we were super comfortable. We highly recommend the Howland farm for a family gathering, family trip with kids (there’s wild turkeys and fireflies) , a girls trip, business trip, or even a family reunion. I could even see them hosting weddings on this gorgeous farm! Thanks again John and Julia for sharing your lil slice of heaven with my family! We had a blast!
Home away from home.
A wonderful and peaceful place to stay for our large family. John was great, the house was perfect and clean. The only issue we had was the record high temperatures the week we were there and the home has no air conditioning so there were some very hot nights. Otherwise it was perfect.
We found that the farmstead fit all of our needs beautifully and couldn't have been happier. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was huge and it was especially nice to have it open to the sitting room to visit while cooking. And we especially enjoyed the opportunities to gather around a fire, swing in the hammock and visit on the porch. And John the on-site caretaker was a true gem and a great host.
Beautiful place. Hospitality was great.
Worked out great for our family!
Here are a number of things we'd like to list about our recent stay at the Howland farm…
Julia was prompt and excellent in her communication with us, from the start to the day we arrived.
John, who is the family home caretaker, and lives on site, was standing waiting for us in the driveway when we pulled in. He gave us a very nice tour of the home. He was willing and ready to meet any needs we had. And we very much appreciated him asking at the end of our stay if there was anything they could do to help make future stays for folks better. We mentioned a very small item, and he quickly noted it and said it would be done…
The house was more than roomy enough for five adults from our family who stayed there.
The shared kitchen was expansive and had everything needed for cooking and baking. We saved a lot of money by eating breakfast and dinner at the house, only having to eat lunch out, while we visited nearby cities.
We enjoyed hiking up the hill behind the house to an old log cabin that had been built by the family decades ago. It is well worth the hike! It's a old road that is easy to follow but also gives you a nice workout in a beautiful setting.
The beds were very comfortable, including having heating blankets for a couple of nights where it got a bit cool.
The back porch is screened in and provides a great place to relax with really nice furniture.
We would recommend this rental, especially to families who want room to visit but also want some room for their own privacy.
It's also very safe and secure for those who may have that concern.
The location is about 35 mins from Ithaca and 45 or so from Cortland. Elmira is about 45 or less mins. The house is easy to find, even though my Maps program showed it being down the road a ways. Julia was smart and sent written directions that were very specific.
We had a great family vacation and this place added muchly to our enjoyment!
The farm site is fifteen minutes from charming downtown Owego, and thirty minutes from Binghamton or Ithaca, NY. Many families enjoy the easy access to area colleges and universities while others prefer to visit historic Owego or the Finger Lakes many attractions.
