True Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Casa Greta might be one of the most beautiful homes we have ever stayed in on vacation. Situated three quarters of the way up the side of a mountain in northern Tuscany, you have incredible views of the valley, vineyards, local towns, and the sea. Sunsets are spectacular, and relaxing inside the villa or at the pool is heavenly. The villa is new and contains every modern amenity you can imagine. At the same time, you feel like you are in a villa that was there hundreds of years ago. The road that leads to the villa can be narrow and a bit nerve-wracking, but the lush gardens, flowers, grounds, and villa itself make the trek up the mountain worthwhile. We took day trips to Lucca, Cinque Terre, Pisa, and ViaReggio; or just enjoyed the comfort and beauty of the villa……Ken & Jo (Chicago, USA)

Stunning views, excellent Casa!

  • 5 of 5

A most stunning home, with absolutely gorgeous views, and Peter a most gracious host! Beautifully appointed, pix just as it is! Kitchen is a chef's joy, all 3 bedrooms comfortable and spacious, baths the same. Eating on the veranda at night, or coffee in the am so relaxing and a delight, vista changing every day, always always special. BLoved having booked the dinner provided by Romina- worth every euro! A great chef, the meal a highlight of our trip! I would note, as others have, the trip up to the villa, the last 2.5 ks or so, is narrow, winding, some blind turns, and "white- knuckled," in many spots, meaning scary for passengers and our drivers both!

We had a manual drive- would absolutely recommend an automatic, and not too big a car! Peter can advise! BBut after a few trips up and down, no problem! We enjoyed the pool every evening, swimming while watching the sunset over the hills, vista to the sea; and day trips to Lucca, Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi; also recommend Montecarlo for wine vistas and a stop at BuonAmico winery !

A Dream Come True - Your Home Awaits!

  • 5 of 5

My new wife and I had the pleasure of staying and having our dreams come true by getting married at Casa Greta in the first weeks of October 2014. First and foremost, Casa Greta is like something from a dream. The moment you walk through the front gates, you're greeted with beautiful landscaping, breathtaking views, the cutest poodles you’ve ever seen, and an immaculate villa perfectly designed and wonderfully equipped that makes you feel instantly at home. Not only do the pictures not do this beautiful villa justice, but Peter and Astrid are truly wonderful people and absolutely amazing hosts! My wife and I had always wanted to get married in Tuscany but never thought we would ever find a place like Casa Greta or find people like Peter and Astrid! When I first spoke with Peter, we were just looking at Casa Greta as a rental but after talking with him about our desires to have a wedding in Tuscany, he immediately offered his villa as a location and his amazing coordination of the event from the vendors to the paperwork– all out of the kindness of his heart! These are the kind of people Peter and Astrid are. They go above and beyond making sure your needs are met without expecting anything additionally in return, which is why when you are renting one of their properties, you are not just getting a place to stay but a place you can call home. Peter and Astrid were with us all day the day of our wedding, including serving as our translators and witnesses, and coordinating an amazing fireworks show at the end of the night. We can’t say enough wonderful things about these people and the spectacular home they have created for their guests. We miss Casa Greta, Camaiore, and Peter and Astrid every day and can't wait to go back and see our friends to celebrate our anniversary!

A beautiful, comfortable house with a great view

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Greta, the beautiful home of Astrid and Peter. They are lovely people and made our stay very special. Peter was always quick to respond to my questions prior to our visit and just as quick once we were there. He and Astrid made great efforts to ensure that we got all that we wanted out of our stay. Everything ran smoothly. The villa is fully equipped and decorated with style. Their home is stunning with every possible amenity you could wish for. Other great things about the house are the beautiful views of the surroundings, and the nice outdoor space, like the olive groves surrounding the house, the pool and the covered terrace off of the back of the house. The terrace was our favorite place to eat and sip wine. And the view was amazing. What a truly incredible place this is. The landscape is beautiful. The location is peaceful and allowed a relaxing stay and at the same time easy access to Lucca, to Pisa, and the Versilia coastline(Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi). We had some wonderful meals in Camaoire. The Ristorante Claudio is an absolute must as is the Ristorante Dogano. We had fabulous meals there and could not have received more or better attention and welcome. The drive up the windy, windy road to the villa starts out as a bit of a challenge but become less foreboding with practice and the rewards far outweigh the effort!

if you want to slow yourself to the Tuscany pace, experience a truly unique part of the world, and get to know warm, genuine people you will love this property. Melody

Wonderful and amazing

  • 5 of 5

When we saw the pictures of the house, we thought " too good to be true". But it was true!

The house and grounds are every bit as beautiful as the pictures advertise, maybe even more so. The house well stocked and clean. Beautifully decorated. Peter was quick to reply if we had questions or concerns, during our week as well as the year we were planning our stay.

Train stations and supermarket approx. 15 to 20 min drive. Road to villa narrow, but it adds to the charm

We can not say enough good things about our week.

A gracious property and most gracious hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Once again I awoke to a sweet birdsong and light spilling through the windows of Casa Greta. This place is aglow with light and love. All week we have whisked off to the most lovely places...Lucca, San Gim, Volterra...medieval villages , walled cities, Montecatini Terme Alto perched high atop a hill and of course... the Renaissance Treasures of Firenze. We are here with much beloved friends and my heart has been warmed by the food and wine and laughter we have shared. But today, while everyone else headed to the sea I decided to stay here and simply bask in the glow of Casa Greta.

The Villa is nestled into the hillside of Pieve di Camaiore in the province of Lucca in Eastern Tuscany. After a white knuckled drive up the ridge through small, winding roads ancient gates open to reveal a golden Casa Greta. The Villa stands gracefully amidst beds of lavender and rosemary. The hills above and below yield fig trees and olive groves. The entire Tuscan countryside is perfumed with the scent of wild roses, lavender and rosemary and here at Casa Greta it is rich enough to make you swoon. Terracotta urns overflow with flowers and herbs.

Inside the restored medieval doors butter hued walls rise up from warm terracotta floors. Wood beams gleam in the ceiling and french doors open to patios and verandas that gaze over the hilltops. The view from the patio behind the kitchen has long arms reaching all the way to the sea. Beneath this a still pool welcomes friends to stop and savor life awhile.

The Villa is the creation of our hosts, Peter and Astrid Gufler- an architect and a sculptor. They call eachother shaktsi- which in their native tongue means my treasure. Unbeknownst to me at the time I leased their home, they are both longtime Yoga practitioners. Their are both celebrated artists in their own right and their masterpiece may well be the work of art they have sculpted out of this golden hilltop.

Pictures could never capture the sweetness of this place but it is my great pleasure to share them and to extend a deep and heartfelt recommendation to anyone who might want to visit Toscana at its most beautiful

In north east, the Garfagnan is located - a mountainous region with beautiful hiking paths, waterfalls and caves (Antro del Corchia).
