Montefino Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Secluded house surrounded by olive groves and woodland, sleeps 8 (With WIFI)

One of the most beautiful houses in the area with many original architectural features including arched brick ceilings & terracotta floors. It has its own private pool and attractive gardens and comfortably sleeps 8 people. Lovingly restored and furnished to a high standard to create a peaceful hideaway in the Abruzzo hills. 2 large bedrooms with king sized beds, one with a large open fire, a third bedroom with a bunk bed and a double bed. Two bathrooms. Cot, playpen and toys available. Well equipped kitchen, dining room with open fire & a lounge with WIFI, TV and DVD player and a good selection of books and DVDs. A huge seating, dining and outdoor cooking area overlooks the pool set in a large private garden adjoining the olive groves. The land is bordered by a small stream & farmland stretches in all directions. Lovely views of two medieval villages and the Gran Sasso range. With full central heating and open log fires this house is cool in summer and warm in winter.

This is a fabulous place to stay .. one of the best we’ve found in 8 years of travelling to Italy.

The region of Abruzzo is wonderful with amazing scenery, loads of different places to visit from the remoteness of the Grand Saso mountains, rural towns, medieval towns & castles, busy shopping towns and the bustle of the Italian beaches. Something for everyone, and pretty much all within 1hrs drive… what more can you ask for?

We were here in June. The weather was perfect and we felt like we have the area to ourselves. Don’t expect loads or touristy stuff .. and make sure you have some basic Italian …. this is proper Italy .. just what we wanted!

Casa Cichella is a real gem of a property, definitely one of the best in the region. The stonework of the house is wonderful, the interior has been done beautifully and the outside space has been laid out perfectly sun terraces, shaded areas, olive grove, lawns and a gorgeous pool with views down the Fino valley and across to the neighbouring town.

The kitchen is the best we’ve ever had. If you like to do your own cooking this has everything you need from great workspace down to sharp knives. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into providing for guests every need. If you’re not a budding Antonio Carluccio then there are many places to eat & drink from the local town bar (stunning views from the piazza) to local restaurants & agroturismos. Good, typical Abbruzi food, everywhere.

Sharon & Steve are perfect hosts. They are there to welcome you, always there if you need them but giving you all the privacy you wish for. You’ll probably also get some visits from the ‘real owners’ … Whiskey & Soda, 2 “so cheeky they’re gorgeous” little dogs, just coming down to make sure you’re ok!

All of the info about the area is described in detail in their own guide at the house, the infamous ‘Blue Book’ .. this is a stunning piece of work … makes the Dorling & Kindersley books seem positively dull!

Steve & Sharon have really integrated into the local community, they know everything & everyone and therefore can make sure you get everything out of a holiday that you want. Having a holiday on a real working Olive farm makes you feel like you’re really becoming part of the real Italy as well.

We echo the sentiment of the other reviews for Casa Cichella .. in that we really shouldn’t be telling anyone how good this place is .. it should be kept a secret … reserved for just a few privileged lovers of ‘Real Italy’.

Visiting friends in Montefino. Great base. Wonderful breakfasts on terrace. A real sun trap even in December. The pool looked enticing - a summer visit a must.

Farmhouse rental - montefino

  • 5 of 5

Hi Steve

Realised the other day we had never contacted you to say how much we enjoyed our stay in abruzzo, it is a beautiful house in a lovely area, had some great meals, mostly cooking at home. Really appreciated the blue book, the creamy mozzarella and pasta especially! The agritourismo you recommended were delightful people and have a floodlit tennis court which they were happy to let us use all week so very welcoming and generous to us, the meal there was also fab. May be a useful bit of info if anyone else interested in playing tennis. The last but one day was amazingly heavy rain with floods and fields slipping into the road, forecast was to continue so we made an early escape and had a sunny 24hrs in rome, made for an interesting drive!

Thanks once again

Best wishes

John Heather

Fabulous everything!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous villa, with very cozy remodeled insides. The "blue book" provided was very, very helpful with finding best local everything. Pool is relaxing and perfect. Great selection of books and DVDs (we got hooked on Doc Martin!) It took us a day to figure out you could actually unlock the ancient pass thru door to get upstairs, so it was a bit inconvenient at first. Overall the villa was just wonderful! Very well equipped kitchen, by the way. First rental place I've ever been to that had useful knives!!

Great spot in Italy

  • 5 of 5

We are a family with two kids and we stayed for one week in Casa Cichella. The house is situated in a very traditional, authentic and quiet part of Italy. The house has an amazing garden with very old trees. We liked the view to Grand Sasso (mountains, that were covered by snow in April). Werner and Sylvia, two germans who care for the house, were very friendly and got us some information about the area. In addition you will find some more information in the house, since the owners wrote all the informaton in a book.

Thanks for a great holiday!

Unforgettable Holidays in a fantastic house!

  • 5 of 5

I must say, also on behalf of my wife and my three sons (14 and 12 years old), that we really fell in love with Casa Cichella, Montefino and Abruzzo in general, the two weeks we spent there (21.8. - 4.9.2010) were fantastic in all respects!! Hiking in the mountains was great, including Corno Grande (the highest montain there) from where we had a superb view, and Campo Imperatore, a high plaeau that you would not expect in Europe is most impressive! Abruzzo still represents more than other - maybe better known regions - the "real" Italy not affected by all the detrimental consequences mass tourism often has - simply because there is no mass tourism! We also enjoyed the food, the respective recommendations of the landlords listed in the "blue book" which you find in the house were very helpful and good, we tried e.g. the fresh "burrata" Mozzarella fresh from the farm, fresh pasta and ravioli from Maria, a local pasta maker and of course meat from a unique meat store very close to the house.

We really felt at home in Casa Cichella from the very first moment on. It is so relaxing there, be it in the "pavillon" (our sons called it "chill lounge"), in a deck chair under a tree in the garden, around the pool or - of course - in the pool. It couldn't be better and we shall definitely come back!!!

Abruzzo is the least populated region of Italy offering 129 km of beaches, wonderful mountains, including the highest peaks in Italy outside of the Alps, and rolling hills between the coast and the uplands. 30% of the region is national park and offers some of the most remote & beautiful scenery in southern Europe. The house is about half way between the sandy beaches, bars & restaurants of Pineto & Pescara and the Gran Sasso mountains and national park which offer sking, walking, climbing, horse or bike riding or just a great place to picnic. In spring the high plateaus are famous for acres of wild flowers and in autumn the huge beech forests are a profusion of colour. History buffs will find 80 castles, beautiful medieval villages & towns as well as Roman & pre-Roman remains. Fresh pasta & bread are made daily in the village and local farms offer cheese, olive oil, & meats. Our local winery is becoming internationally recognised yet still offers robust reds for about €1 a litre.
