Milla La Maria is a 12,000 square meters property located in a wonderful and quiet residential neighborhood 1 km north of the town centre and a few hundred meters South of the well-known Resorts of Flor Blanca, Milarepa, Red Palms to mention some.
Those who stay at Milla La Marìa enjoy complete privacy. The property is gated with a long driveway that extends from the Front Gate to a large circular private parking area located just off the entry to La Casona. The home is surrounded by magnificent gardens and it is the only rental home on the estate grounds.
The property stretches from the main public road to the beach. Milla La Marìa is a truly exotic retreat surrounded by beautiful Costa Rican flora, with legendary trees of pochote, malinche coral, almendro, Ilán Ilán,and higuerón as well as many tropical fruit trees particularly banana, platano, coco, mamón, cas, carambola , mango, fruta de pan , guayaba, Aguacate, limón and naranja ácida. Most attractive for visitors is the large collection of Heliconias grown on the property grounds and the impresive
number of different kinds of tropical flowers.
Upon entering La Casona, one faces a open leisure living Estancia area [by far, the favorite area of the house!] This area acts as a leisure/ living area. It uniquely creates the ambiance with ceramic tile throughout. It is fully furnished with separate seating areas, hammocks, traditional Costa Rican wood-carved rocking chairs, cocktail table, sofas, and a detached guest bathroom.
This area is adjacent to the pool. This unique indoor open terrace has a distinctive Costa Rican décor, yet features many cultural artifacts acquired by the owner as well as a notorious and large collection of wooden sculptures that the owner has patiently carved throughout the years.
Adjoining the leisure area is the kitchen and dining area. This area is the “heart” of the beach house, with a staircase leading to the sleeping quarters (master bedroom and both right and left wings suites and to the third floor loft). The dining room table seats 10. And the kitchen comes fully equipped with a full-size refrigerator, an oven with stove, sink, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, plates & utensils, and a pantry.
As one reaches the second floor one faces an open leisure area overlook by a 3rd floor loft.
The 3rd floor open loft provides 2 twin beds complete with a ceiling fan. The stairs accessing this floor are somewhat steep; and we recommend that these sleeping quarters not be reserved for the elderly or small children.
The master bedroom consists of an extraordinarily spacious bedroom with a king size bed, and a twin bed, Air Conditioning and 2 ceiling fans, a private bathroom, fully furnished with cable TV and internet access.
The Left-Wing of la Casona.
The Left -Wing quarters have one suite. This bedroom includes Air Conditioning, private bathroom. This second floor suite has one queen bed. It is completely secluded and private; an experience of solitude and peace. This suite boasts a private balcony overlooking the property’s lush garden. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The Right- Wing of La Casona:
The Right -Wing quarters have two suites. The upstairs suite offers a spacious bedroom furnished with one king, one queen and one twin size bed. This bedroom include Air Conditioning, private bathroom, full kitchenette (including plates and utensils), dining area for four, refrigerator, sink, coffeemaker, toaster, and microwave. The balcony is a perfect backdrop for enjoying meals and conversation with the lush and serene landscape inherent to the tropics of Costa Rica. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The downstairs suite is completely furnished and has one queen size bed, AC and a private bathroom
Keywords: Santa Teresa beachfront vacation rental in front of the locals surf break, close to yoga retreat centers, restaurants and souvenir shops.
This amazing property was named, Milla la Maria, after the owner and retired International Relations professor, Roberto E. de la Ossa T’ s late mother.
Professor de la Ossa fell in love with the location back in the mid seventies. He purchased the property in the early 80’s and over the course of twenty five years has not only established a magnificent vacation home for himself and his family, but has recently opened up the possibility for travelling families, groups, and individuals to rent and enjoy “La Casona” (as this unique land mark is fondly referred to by locals and outsiders who have had the opportunity to spend some time at Milla La Marìa).
Roberto E de la Ossa T purchased this house in 1981
We had the opportunity to stay in Roberto's outstanding home in March 2016 for a week with three separate families with the age ranges from 3-63 (total of 10 individuals including 4 kids 3-12 years old). The house is set up to hold multiple families with four separate large bedrooms that are all air conditioned. The downstairs is great for gathering and starting/ finishing the day. The pool was awesome for both the kids and adults in which we spent many afternoons in there. The walk to the beach trough you private access takes 1-2 minutes. The beach is outstanding for surfing, kids swimming, watching sunsets, and fires at night. The water is warm with a sand bottom. Referring back to the house, it has everything you need from drinking water/ice/grill/and all the appropriate accessories you need. There is a market right across from the property that is very convenient and has everything that you need. Roberto suggested many great places to eat and we also found some additional ones as well (Chicken Joes and the Soda right down the street). Roberto also arranged transportation to and from the airport in Tambor as well as five quads that were delivered and picked-up at the house. All of the services he recommended were A+ and can be trusted and reliable (Roberto also checked in multiple times through the week). And lastly there is Millane (spelled wrong) who takes care of the property daily, she is awesome and is very helpful. This was my families second year in a row at this house and plan to return yearly. All three families highly recommend this house to individuals and families of all ages. Great trip again!
We had the pleasure of staying in Roberto's wonderful home for 2 weeks this past January/February. It was our first time in Santa Teresa and now we cannot wait to return! I went with my family of four (husband and 2 boys ages 5 and 9) and my husbands extended family. There were 8 of us in all and there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. The house is set up almost like 4 individual suites. The bedrooms were very comfortable, clean and quiet. The only disturbance may be the sounds of howler monkeys (how great is that?!). The beach is really close - only a short walk down a path. The pool was wonderful and the little shaded cabana by the pool is where we would relax in the heat of the day while the boys swam. My husband surfed the break in front of the house everyday and I was able to run on the beach. The house is in a great location with restaurants and stores close by. We rented a car - but you wouldn't necessary have to. We did a mix of eating in (there is a fun outdoor grill at the house) and eating dinners out. Playing on the beach with the kids watching the sunset was the best!
Roberto and his son were incredibly kind and helpful and would answer any questions that might come up by either the house phone or email. They gave us advice on restaurants, fishing, zip-lining and yoga classes. And they helped coordinate our transportation when needed.
I hope we are able to return soon to stay again at Milla de Maria!
We rented this property to hold a small wedding celebration and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We were already familiar with the house, having spent a lot of time in the area, but we had never previously stayed here. The location couldn't be better. It is in a quieter area of Santa Teresa but still within walking distance of several restaurants and a supermarket. The beach is stunning and the surf is on your doorstep.
We were 2 families sharing the house, 9 people in total, and the house and garden are so spacious that you never feel on top of each other. The garden is amazing with a huge variety of heliconias and other tropical plants.
The teenagers in the party enjoyed the freedom of being able to walk to the shop for an ice cream or pop out for a take away at the local 'soda', as well as spending hours in the pool and in the sea.
This house is 'quirky' and full of Costa Rican character, unlike some of the other rental properties we looked at in the area. It is definitely one of a kind and we feel very privileged to have stayed here.
While I have been to Santa Teresa many times, this was the first time we rented a house and it is a great way to go. In terms of value for a beachfront location, this home will be tough to beat if you are a family or large group. Not only are there 4 private bedrooms all with their own bathrooms, but each bedroom has multiple beds so this house can easily handle a lot of people! The living areas are spacious and the beach access and location is as good as it gets. The house is set back from the road so as to avoid noise and dust and also set back from the each so as to provide privacy. While it would be wonderful if the house had a view of the beach, the rent would be much higher. Again, if you are seeking the best value for a group in a house with private beach access, this is the best you can get!
It should be noted that the house does not have lots of bright sunlight which some folks may regret, but the good news about that is it helps to keep the living areas cool during the day. The bedrooms all are air conditioned. The grounds are beautiful and filled with amazing tropical plants, birds, colors and the intoxicating scents of white ginger and jasmine! Roberto is a delightful man and a pleasure to work with and Melania works hard to keep the house and grounds clean and beautiful. Pura Vida!
AMAZING!!! We just had the BEST time with 2 other couples celebrating my husbands 40th birthday! This home is perfect! Perfect! Perfect! Best location right on an amazing stretch of sandy beach, with warm waters and the ultimate surfing conditions! We utilized the super convenient market across the street for our grocery needs, and rented 4-wheelers to explore the surrounding areas! We had a little rain each evening which was much appreciated and refreshing. The Sun was out every day, the people are all so kind and helpful, and we felt safe and secure the entire time. Roberto is absolutely phenomenal in assisting us with everything from horse-back rides, ATV rentals, dinner reservations, and airport transport. Everyone in town knows Roberto! So special treatment is offered to all of his house guests :)
Milania, the house keeper kept every inch of the property super tidy, did our laundry every day and was always available if we needed her. We are already planning our next trip out with our kids! You will not be disappointed with this home wether you are planning a romantic get-away, family retreat or a fun trip with friends!
While a little uncertain about traveling to such a remote part of Costa Rica, we couldn't have been happier when we arrived. Make no mistake, it is a long day of travel to get there, but the good things never come easily. It is absolutely worth it. We were blown away upon arrival. The home and grounds are beautiful, and the owner's son met us there to give us a tour and some advice on where to eat and surf (right out front!). The home is very comfortable, with plenty of space for the 8 of us to spread out. The pool is amazing, and we all spent hours every day just relaxing in it after a morning surf. Just a tip for anyone planning a surf trip, the best break is right in front of the house. That said, this is NOT a beginner wave. When they say chest high, plan on 2-3 ft. overhead and HEAVY. It is an excellent wave if your skills are up to the task. If the waves don't cooperate, it is easy to walk across the street to the supermarket for drink supplies, or rent a 4-wheeler for other adventures. I know we hope to return sooner rather than later.
