We chose the Grasonville, Kent Island area because it has that Eastern Shore feel of lazy days and breezy bay nights. When the relaxing is just too much for us (very rare), we can take a short drive to fantastic waterfront restaurants, shopping outlets, and big city fun in D.C. or Baltimore. The central location makes it easy to take day trips to any part of Maryland without spending the day driving.
We love kayaking on the Chester River. We feel like we are one of the many waterfowl we see off of our dock, just trolling the beautiful rippled waters. Fishing and crabbing during the summer months is a daily event for us. Enjoying our fresh catch for dinner is the highlight of our day.
Our home is well equipped for sunny days as well as rainy days, we are never at a loss for things to do.
A group of 4 couples and one young child stayed at Bay Dreams to attend a wedding at the Chesapeake Environmental Center. I was on the fence as to whether to stay at a hotel or rent a home, and am so happy we opted for the home rental! It was cheaper than the hotels with the number of people we had and allowed us to save money by grocery shopping instead of relying on restaurants. The house was completely charming and had more than enough room for our group, although we spent most of our time on the patio and in the kayaks/rowboat! The couple with the young son were able to stay in the addition side of the home, giving them a bit more privacy and quiet. Bernadette and Joe were so responsive, easy to work with and returned my security deposit the day after I left - much faster than I expected. I definitely recommend staying here and will rent the home again should I ever find myself back in the area.
We stayed at Bay Dreams the week of my daughter's wedding. Most of our guests were staying in Grasonville and the wedding was at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. The location was easily accessible and we had room for our family and a couple friends, The house was perfect for some of the last minute projects we had to do as well as a place for the bridesmaids to get ready the day of the wedding.
The house is spacious and the backyard view is fabulous. We all agreed that it was the best decision we made. We lucked out with beautiful weather and enjoyed breakfasts on the deck, time in the hot tub, exploring in the kayaks and being close to so many great restaurants. When the wedding was over, we were so glad to be here to relax and enjoy a few more days together. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. We look forward to coming back. It felt like home...only better!
Baydreams backs onto a Chesapeake Bay inlet. The view from the back windows is beautiful and tranquil. We were particularly impressed with a close view of ospreys nesting behind a nearby house. There was also a family of ducks that ventured out of the water to the rear of the house each day. The house is located just a mile from the highway exit on a friendly closed outlet block. The only thing that marred our tranquility was the roar of a generator from the back of a neighboring house. It ran for several hours the first day we arrived and for a few hours on one other day during the week we stayed.
The house itself is very spacious with two separate wings separated by a sitting room overlooking the backyard and bay. So there was lots of privacy for the other couple that stayed with us. This extension is not really a "guest house" because it is attached to the house, although it does have a separate entrance. The sitting room has some classic arcade games which you are free to play and which were a lot of fun.
The kitchen and furnishings are dated (particularly outdoor furniture) but in good condition. There are two kitchens at either end of the house. The beds were very comfortable, and the showers worked well. There is a hot tub next to the master bedroom on the second floor which looks very inviting, but there was insufficient hot water to fill it properly. The upstairs bedroom has a nice walk- in closet and a small terrace with a nice view of the water.
There are three big screen televisions, easy to use, plus a DVD player with some movies. Wireless internet was easy to access and very reliable throughout the house. There were several boats and bikes available plus a nice gas barbecue. The "tiki bar" in the back has a charcoal grill, but it looked worn and univiting. Although we didn't use the outdoor hot tub because the weather was hot during our stay, it looked clean and well maintained.
We took day trips to some wildlife refuges, the Naval Academy, and Fort McHenry, all an hour or less away. There's a shopping area about four miles away with a big supermarket to get supplies. At the owner's suggestion, we ate at the Narrows Restaurant, 10 minutes from the house, and the food, service and view were outstanding.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely recommend the house for it's beautiful view and excellent location. The house itself is very comfortable and conducive to having fun. The owners were professional and courteous.
This was a great house for an annual gathering of a group of college friends. Nice to have so many bikes and a dock with several kayaks (plus a canoe we did not even need). Fun to be able to get a kayak out on the water whenever we wanted. Hot tub was nice especially in the late afternoon and evening. Plenty of room and many nooks in the house where one could read or play games without disrupting others' activities.
A group of us stayed at Baydreams for a Memorial Day wedding weekend, and it was bliss. We loved taking the kayaks out in the morning and soaking in the hot tub in the evenings. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, with all the utensils and appliances we needed to cook up some great feasts and plasticware so we could enjoy our meals on the patio. I loved waking up in the "captain's quarters" upstairs to the sound of the water and the amazing views of the bay. The house was beautifully and thoughtfully furnished, with everything you could need for a Chesapeake Bay vacation.
Thank you for a fantastic break. We're already trying to figure out when to get back!
My son got married on June 5, 2015 and we needed a place to stay on the eastern shore so that we didn't have to drive back and forth across the Bay Bridge. We stayed two nights and had 10-12 people in the house. It was wonderful!! It was clean, great views of the water, bedrooms were ample size and even had a "Captain's Quarters" complete with water view, sunken tub and sky lights. The beds were big and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, had a dishwasher, microwave, toaster etc... There was also an attached "bungalow" as we called it, that had a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. We had the use of bicycles and boats (not motor boats) if we wanted. There was even a tiki bar and Jacuzzi outside! Just a wonderful, comfortable and relaxing place to stay. We would love to stay again when life isn't so hectic so we could really enjoy everything about the house!! It was a pleasure from start to finish!!
