About Judith Ronning
My grandparents were settlers here, in the winter I often wonder why they stopped here. But in the summer, you forget about the long winters and enjoy the beautiful lake, the cool evenings and all the birds and wildlife. The cry of the loons in the evenings is unforgettable. Eagles soaring overhead, a beautiful sight. The beavers swimming by, looking for more tender trees. One morning I awoke and they had taken my apple tree, a crab apple tree and a sugar maple! Now I plant my fruit trees far from the lake shore. I love gardening! Every time a birch tree died, a new garden was birthed in the rich soil. We love people and we love sharing this special spot with our guests who quickly become our friends.
Judith Ronning purchased this Cabin in 1982
Why Judith Ronning chose Cook
My husband's father bought this land back in the 50's. So we sit nestled in on land between his brother's and his sister's. It is a quiet haven, tucked in behind an island in a little bay. Years ago before everyone had GPS's, boats would come flying through here, thinking they were heading for TimBucTu and the Narrows but these days it is quiet. On opening fishing though there are always 4-5 boats in our little bay. Most of the summer we have fishing boats out front. One only needs to row out a ways in our 16-foot rowboat, available to our guests, and go fishing with the best of them!
What makes this Cabin unique
"So peaceful," that is the comment we often hear as people step through the breezeway and see the setting, the gardens and Lake Vermilion. The breezeway is a comfortable sheltered spot to observe the lake, make and enjoy dinners on the grill. And everyone goes for the swing chair. "Room with a View," that was the name of a movie and I feel like that is what best describes our guest quarters, an awesome view from every window.

Lake Vermillion Get Away
The cottage is very clean and relaxing. The owners, Judy and her husband were very nice. Enjoyed our stay on Lake Vermilliom. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect for a couples getaway!
This was our third year coming to Josante Shores, and we will definitely be back next year! Judy and Jack are perfect hosts - friendly and attentive, yet respectful of your privacy. Their guest house is in a protected little bay, with a dock for your boat, and Jack even ran an electrical cord to the dock so that we could charge our batteries. Highly recommend this little gem!
We enjoyed our stay. We were able to use the whole property and felt like we had a lot of privacy. The two fire pit locations were nice. The use of the kayaks was great. Very nice host and fun to talk to at our arrival.
A short but wonderful stay!
We absolutely loved our little weekend away at this beautiful property. The cabin itself was cozy and comfortable, and the land/view was stunning! Between the fire pits, canoes, kayaks, swimming, and sauna, there was plenty to do. Yet it was so peaceful we were also content just sitting on the deck or in the little cabin itself. If you are going to stay here, it would be best to do most of your grocery shopping on the way up as it is quite a drive to get food - just a note.
We would love to come here again for a longer stay down the road!
Much Needed R&R
We had a great trip to Lake Vermillion. We both loved this rental and it was in a great area. We enjoyed listening to the loons all day and getting out in the kayak. We were really happy with the large fridge/freezer and plenty of space to put food on the shelves and work space. We took our 2 goldens with us and they both enjoyed being there and loved playing in the water. The entire rental was super comfortable (bed was heaven) and perfect for 2 of us and the dogs. This is the first time doing a VRBO rental with the owners on site. We did our best to be respectful of them and tried to keep quiet and clean up after ourselves. We didn't really have much interaction with the owners. They were very quiet and we didn't really see them much at all. We are okay with being pointed in the right direction. It might be nice to have an instruction book that gives some information on check in/check out procedures and just a little info on property and what is expected. Other than that, we LOVED this place and look forward to coming back!
