Enjoyed our stay tremendously besides finding a few cockroaches in the bathroom, otherwise it was as expected!
It was very clean! Perfect house for me and my dog. Had a great stay. Would definitely recommend 11 out of 10 stars.
Very sweet and cozy, close to beach !!!! We enjoyed our vacation ( that’s why 5 *) but needs some upgrades.
Great Location, But Unit Needs Alot of Attention
The unit is in a great location to the beach, and that was the only real perk. There were fruit flies throughout the kitchen when we first arrived and we had to clean the sink area thoroughly to get rid of them. The bedroom carpets were stained, there is mold in the shower, the shower door was off the track until I repaired it. There were several extra lamps scattered on the floor of the bedroom along with outlets that had numerous adapters and extensions cords in them, which is a real fire hazard. Several of the outlets did not work and when I check the fuse box it was filled with dust and lint. The unit needs an overhaul all around. I would not recommend staying there. Very Disappointed!
We never heard once from this guest with any complaints. If we had, we would have addressed everything right away. The house is going through a deep clean/carpet clean etc as we speak and everything will be addressed and taken care of.
We read "beach bungalow" and erroneously assumed it was near the beach. Normal walking pace to the beach? At least ten minutes. Leisurely? Longer. The cottage is, as advertised, surrounded by wild vegetation. If you have any desire for a view of anything or have even a tad of claustrophobia, this is not the place for you. If you like fresh air, go elsewhere. Yes, there are myriad windows. None has a screen, nor does the front door. Only the two "sliders" have a screen, and one was so broken it couldn't be put in its track. Imagine moving it to take meals out to the smallish deck. Difficult.
Inside, a nighttime surprise was the infestation of tiny, black caterpillars crawling around the bathroom floor. One had to capture and flush them in order to avoid stepping on them. But then, they appeared "only" at night. The electrical outlet in the bathroom doesn't work, so one had to find an outlet in the living room for drying hair. The toilet was a perfect height for toddlers. For those with older knees, not so much. Having carpeting in the bedroom seems ill-advised where pets have been welcomed. Our sniffing doggie had a grand time smelling the spots! Thanks be, he's perfectly housebroken, unlike previous canines. A nice touch was having two TV's. The one in the bedroom worked. The one in the living room didn't.
Alert: When we made our reservation, I doubled checked and asked if there was air conditioning. I was told no! So I asked if there were ceiling fans. Again, I was told no. Happily, the cottage has fine A/C and a ceiling fan in both the living room and the bedroom. Nice. We needn't have packed two large fans of our own in our crowded car.
All that said, we were thrilled to be able to take our doggie along with us, not only to the cottage but to the lovely beaches. And our goal was to have R and R time away from home. That goal was happily met!
We didn't hear one word from this guest during their stay so we had no opportunity to address any of their concerns. Most of our guests like the wooded nature of the house and have never mentioned being claustrophobic. The nature is quite serene and scenic. This guest never mentioned the sticky screened door or the bugs or we would have sent someone right away to address it. The carpet in the bedroom is cleaned regularly. All items have been addressed.
No one ever inquired about air conditioning or ceiling fans or I would have said there were both. This guest had some confusion about us as manager and VRBO as the booking agent so I am guessing they asked someone at VRBO those questions. Of course there is AC in South Carolina!
Hilton Head offers over twelve miles of gorgeous beach. Our home is located in the middle of the most desirable mile. The nearest public access (Forest Beach at Coligney Circle) is over a mile to the north. The nearest hotel is a mile to the south. In between those two points the majority of homes are single-family units. The multi-story villas and apartments available for rent are adjacent to Forest Beach. What all of this means is that very few people have easy access to the long, wide and beautiful section of beach in front of Night Heron. You will appreciate the privacy and available space to put your beach chair and relax. And it is only a seven-minute walk (2/10 mile) on your private path to the dunes. “Just Imagine” at Night Heron is a free standing home shaded by towering Long Needle and Loblolly Pines. All landscaping is natural with fan-like Saw Palmettos, Cabbage Palms, and native grasses with ancient Live Oaks draped with a profusion of Spanish moss.
