About Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter
We are midwesterners who moved to Seattle after living in France for seven years. We crisscrossed the country, and chose Seattle over every other place we visited. It's a wonderful city full of bookstores, theaters, coffeehouses, great restaurants, friendly people and imagination. This is a beautiful city that is seriously into food and the outdoors. Ask us about the many bakeries, pubs and and restaurants that are just a few minutes' drive (or 10-20 minutes' walk) away, and the many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter chose Wedgwood
We chose NE Seattle because despite its proximity to downtown (6 miles), it is full of older-growth trees and wildlife. We've seen great blue herons and bald eagles on our street. We're only 4 minutes' walk from the direct bus to U. of Washington and downtown, and a mile from the express lanes on I-5 South. We walk our mini-poodle Louie through our beautiful Wedgwood neighborhood almost every day.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Garden Studio is a separate, private building in a beautifully planted, fully fenced yard. Both the Garden and Studio are designed for optimal light, with almost all lamps dimmable in the Studio, blinds that open from top or bottom, multiple windows with transoms, and two skylights. The Garden Studio features a new, quiet heating and air-conditioning unit, screened windows that can let in a breeze, multiple patios to relax, glide or swing in a hammock, and a fully equipped cook's kitchen. You can drive, take Shuttle Express or taxi to NE Seattle from the airport in 1/2 hour (20 miles), or take Metro Link Light Rail to the downtown University Street Station (40 min.), then the 312 or 522 bus North (40 min.), then 4-10 minutes' walk to The Garden Studio. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Beautiful, clean, and attention to detail make this place a gem!
These hosts thought of every little detail to make this an enjoyable stay. Everything is meticulously labeled to an adorable degree and instructions were clear. Hosts were responsive and accommodating. Laundry facilities onsite, bikes avail, shampoo, soap, hairdryer and hair straightener provided. Kitchen has everything you need including toaster oven, milk frother, full size coffee maker. Some coffee is provided but bring your own for longer stays. Sugar is provided but no creamer. Very clean and bed was super comfy. It wasn't a problem for us, but there is only a partition between living room and bed so there is no door. If you have someone that likes to retire early while the other watches tv this may be a concern. If that's not an issue I highly recommend.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay!
We have a set of comfy headphones behind the tv for those who would like to watch tv while the other sleeps.
Thank you for staying at The Garden Studio.
Another month-long stay here in Garden Studio (we've done several) and as always the accommodations were terrific. In Spring the gardens are beautiful. Inside is very clean, lots of natural light, well-equipped kitchen, and extra stocks of paper supplies. This stay we found a new upgraded French Press coffee maker had been added. The hosts Dick & Julie are great and easy to work with; they respect your privacy, but if you need any help they're right next door. The coffee bean grinder died while we were here and they replaced it in just a few days. In the meantime we used the ground coffee they always provide for guests to get your first few mornings started.
Best thought out and put together place
Besides being beautiful and quiet, the hosts have literally anticipated all your questions and left helpful notes everywhere. I've been in places where I couldn't figure out how to use an appliance or turn on the shower. They're a step ahead for which I was grateful. Very well appointed kitchen too. We had a very restful time.
What a wonderful, serene place to stay. Very clean and a perfect get away. We have been recommending this place to all we know and people we meet in passing. We plan on staying at the Garden Studio every time we visit Seattle. A BIG thank you to Julie and Dick for creating such a perfect place to stay.

Could not be more perfect.
Thoughtfully appointed, private, just a wonderful place to stay.
Great place to stay in Seattle
I needed be in Seattle for a week to complete several projects. The Garden Studio was an ideal place to work and live. Situated in a quiet residential neighborhood behind the owners’ home, it is a large stand-alone building with a very nice garden area. It has a full kitchen, comfortable bed, nice shower and the bathroom floors are heated. The owners used very high quality materials throughout. Although it is three years old, it felt like it was new. I wish my own home were so nicely appointed! I would happily stay there again, and will recommend it to friends and family who need a pleasant place to stay in Seattle.
The Garden Studio is on a quiet, dead-end street and has free parking in driveway and on street. It is only several minutes' drive from swimming beaches on Lake Washington, scenic walking/biking trails, an attractive outdoor shopping center (U. Village), several farmers markets, and a wide range of restaurants. Nearby are Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and several PCCs, the largest consumer-owned natural food co-op in the country. Their food is locally sourced, organic, and extremely fresh. The deli serves delicious, healthy food for take-out. Try the cashew chicken salad or the cheesy chalupas.
We are also close to public transit, sometimes easier for downtown sightseeing than driving and parking. We are about a four-minute walk from several bus stops (312 and 372), and a 10-minute walk to the 522 bus. The 312 and 522 go downtown. The 372 goes to the U of Washington, where you walk a few blocks to catch Link Light Rail, which goes all over the city, including the airport.
For more info on bus lines and Link Light Rail:
We have easy-to-follow maps to the nearby buses, and schedules, in the Guest Handbook in the Studio. And
there’s an app called “OneBusAway” which provides bus times at any given location.
