Gordes Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 7-9, large garden with heated pool, tennis court

La Clarté - This delightful villa, built from the local stone, has it all! It faces south, has a beautiful secluded setting, and a spectacular view of the Luberon valley from its heated and discreetly fenced swimming pool. It now has it's own beautiful and luxurious Tennis Court. In addition to this, it is only a 5 minute drive from Provence's 'most beautiful village'; the stunning hilltop village of Gordes. The rooms are very spacious, light, and airy with white-washed walls and light coloured local stone floors throughout. It has high ceilings with wooden beams and is tastefully furnished with new Scandinavian style furniture. There is a large fireplace and a store logs. We have a 42 inch flat screen TV with full SKY subscription plus WIFI. There is also very effective electric heating throughout. The villa stands in a large and beautiful garden and is not overlooked by anyone. The views of the Luberon hills and valley that unfold from all parts of it are simply stunning. To view our website click link below.

The Garden and Heated Pool: The one and a half acres of garden are cultivated with flowering shrubs, beds of lavender, as well as groves of olive and Cypress trees. Underfoot there are numerous wild flowers and herbs. There is a large (10mx6m) heated pool with stone steps at the shallow end (1.2 meters deep). The pool heating is very effective and even out of season maintains a comfortable temperature. The pool is available from March to October and is kept beautifully clean by a local pool specialist and our very effective 'robot'. The pool is discreetly fenced by a wooden slatted fence with two gates set well back from the pool, running behind olive trees and shrubs. We have 6 sun beds with cushions, two teak garden tables with ten teak chairs and sunshades as well as a barbecue. There is a frame with three swings: a 'pirate boat', rings and a conventional swing. There is a set of boules, footballs etc.

Gordes - only 5 min drive away: Standing in a spectacular position overlooking the plateau of Vaucluse, Gordes is the perfect Provencal village, with tiers of mellow stone houses rising from the plain. At the summit are a Renaissance château and a church. The views from its terraced streets of the valley and the distant Luberon are superb. Steep narrow streets and alleys paved with rough stones thread their way between many fine houses from the sixteenth and seventeenth century.

The charming village square has a good selection of open-air cafes. There are two bakeries, a supermarket and a vegetable shop as well as craft and pottery shops. Every Tuesday there is a delightful street market with local produce, wine, olives, fabrics, etc.. There is a wide selection of restaurants in and around Gordes.

Gordes has a world-wide reputation as one of the most beautiful villages of France and Peter Mayle's book 'A Year in Provence', set in the area, has certainly helped to reinforce this.

Children welcome: We have three children and have tried to make the house welcoming for children of all ages. We have plenty of board games - Monopoly (junior & senior), Scrabble, Cluedo, Chess, etc.. Lots of puzzles and children's books. An upright piano, a small electric keyboard as well as Sky television with all its children's programmes.

The garden is great fun for children with lots of room to run around, explore and hide. There is a frame with three swings: a pirate 'boat', rings and a conventional swing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

12/04/03 La Clarte could not have been a better choice for our recent holiday in Provence. La Clarte is certainly big enough for a group, the rooms are generous and the living area is open planned, but it is still warm and cosy. Moreover it is only 5 minutes drive to the beautiful Luberon village, Gordes. At La Clarte every ammenity is provided, and the house is quite lovely, the setting even more gorgeous. Moreover, Robin and Caroline could not have been more helpful hosts.

5/10/02. You can't beat La Clarte for peace and serenity - - even two and a half year old Charles could not upset the delicate perfection (feng shui?) brought on by the gardens, the old stones, olive trees and, of course, the swimming pool overlooking the valley. We had a great time just hanging out and relaxing. All-in-all, a great week - hope to come back some day!

A lovely villa in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week at this villa, making great use of the pool and tennis court. The weather at the end of October was also great, with only one day of rain. The villa is well equipped with kitchen utensils, crockery etc, as well as plenty of books and games for evening entertainment.

Our favourite places we visited were Coustellet market on the Sunday, Gordes, Roussillon, Fontaine de Vaucluse, and Orange amphitheatre.

We would definitely return again.

Fantastique !

A l'an prochain alors ....

We really enjoyed our holiday at La Clarté. The villa is perfect, the pool was so warm that we could swim everyday in April. The place is very safe for young children. The location is ideal to visit best places in Luberon.

So peaceful - relaxing week!

  • 5 of 5

A quick dash back to Provence during half term. We have been staying in self-catering holiday homes since 2006 and this is the nicest one we have found. So peaceful - we have had a great relaxing week and visited some old and new favourites. Highlights: Gordes market, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Rousillon, Orange amphitheatre.

Excellent location and facilities, some issues

  • 4 of 5

The location and general facilities are excellent, and the area has lots to see and do. We've been twice and feel that in spite of the great new tennis court there are elements getting a little tired. Swimming pool heating was not working which, given the time of year, meant the pool was not usable other than for very hearty types. There were holes in two of the bed linen sets provided, all but one of the parasols were broken, a broken toilet seat, and there was scrabbling wildlife getting into the attic space every night. None of that caused us real problems but indicated that the maintenance was not at the level we'd seen previously. And the women in our adult group would have appreciated a mirror in the bedrooms, which are optimised for children. But the piano, Sky TV, amount of kitchen equipment and crockery, are all appreciated, and comfort levels are good.
