About Mr Fraser
This is my former home. I now live in the UK but spend as much time as I can here.
Mr Fraser purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1993
Why Mr Fraser chose Valencisse
It is in a forest, surrounded by nature! I bought this home to live in when I worked in the near by town of Blois. It is in a very unusual, and attractive location, which I am very attached to. It has been rated at the 4 star level under the new government standard for furnished holiday homes. Since then we have added facilities for wildlife lovers including binoculars, (digital) microscope, a trail camera and a portable hide to get your photos from. It also has a very dark sky if you are inclined to take your telescope with you. The Loire Valley is also a great area to explore by bike. Further information about the wildlife here can be found at labuanderie.co.uk
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Tranquil setting on a private, historic chateau estate surrounded by an oak forest in a beautiful part of France with many (ie. loads of) chateaux to visit and other tourist attractions in this UNESCO listed region. Excellent base for observing a wide range of wildlife in the forest. There is a renowned privately owned botanical garden in the village at the Pieuré d'Orchaise, and a leading zoo park at Beauval, a reasonable drive to the south. It is a 15 minute drive east to Blois, a former capital of Rennaisance France with a beautiful historic centre with its Royal Chateau (Louis XII, François I, Henry III, and Henry IV). 15 minutes south is the Chateau of Chaumont (Catherine de Medici lived here) with its amazing garden festival each summer. The gems of Chambord and Chenonceaux (Catherine de Medici lived here too) are not far away either. You will not run out of things to do!

Stunning Loire valley holiday retreat.
Fantastic retreat in the beautiful French countryside. Only a few minutes drive to nearest village with pharmacy, bakery, bars and supermarket. Perfectly located for visiting the most famous French Chateaux and the nearby Town of Blois it’s Saturday market of beautiful flowers and organic produce is not to be missed not to mention numerous bars, cafes and restaurants.
The house itself is lovely, clean and well organised, it has a most beautiful large private garden and swimming pool. British TV and WiFi made us feel right at home. We cooked some delicious meals on the barbecue outside as well as dining inside. We had young children and appreciated the safety of the lockable gate seperating the pool from the garden.
The rooms are lovely, light and spacious. Highly recommend the property, the owners were very helpful and kind too, we’ll certainly be back.
It was great to welcome you back again. Glad you had a great holiday and looking forward to seeing you again in the future.
Very nice property
We all enjoyed our stay at the property. The property is large with plenty of space for everyone to have their own space. It also has a good-sized pool. We had a couple of issues whilst we were there but the owner dealt with them as quickly as possible. Unfortunately the barbecue ban at the property (due to forest fires) did make cooking a little difficult for 8 people. The children loved the woodland walks and they saw a couple of deer in the woods. The property is in a good location for visiting the local towns of Blois, Amboise. There is a supermarket nearby and boulangerie in Orchaise. Overall a very nice holiday
I am glad that Mary's family enjoyed their holiday.
The outdoor barbecue ban mentioned is a French regulation that applies within 200m of woodland to prevent forest fires and this house is in a lovely oak forest. A large gas barbecue that complies with the regulations has been added for 2019.
The property is equipped with comprehensive cooking facilities, including De Dietrich fan oven, multi function microwave / oven and grill and gas hob including a woc burner. There is also an additional Neff microwave, rice cooker and pressure cooker.
A prior client dropped and broke one of the cast iron hob pan supports just before leaving and we had to get a new one at short notice from De Dietrich which took a few days.
Mary's party included vegetarians which increased their needs for different cooking methods and they were initially planning to use barbecues in parrallel to help cover this.
The cooking facilities are normally fine for a group of 8.
Lovely property in a nice location
The property is large and well maintained with a good-sized pool. We didn't find the pool cover thst easy to unfold, but that might be just our technique! Our kids loved the woodland setting. We even saw wild deer in the woods on a few occasions. The property itself is in a good location for visiting the local towns of Blois, Amboise, Vendome etc. There's a supermarket down the road in Herbault with a reasonable selection of bread, meat, fish and vegetables, so you don't need to travel far to pick up the essentials.
Thank you for the review Martin. The security cover on the pool is a bit heavy. It needs to be wound back by 2 people, one on either side, using the 2 tools provided. I will provide further guidance to clients in the future.
A lovely family break
The property is a very spacious house set in the grounds of a small chateau. There were six adults in our party and with four bedrooms we had plenty of space. The house is very well furnished and equipped so in many ways was a home from home. Being in the grounds it is set off the road so is blissfully quiet and yet the local supermarket and bakers are only 10 minutes drive away. The swimming pool is a perfect size for the property and well looked after. The local area offers lots of attractions varying from chateaux, to picturesque towns and castles. several of the party had just had birthdays and one while we were there and we went to a Michelin starred restaurant in Blois where we had an excellent meal which although not cheap provided good wines at much cheaper prices than in the equivalent restaurant in the UK. we also found a nearby vineyard (50 minutes) down the Loire where we tasted some good wine and very reasonable prices. It's website is lachapiniere.fr. The sauvignon blanc and dessert wines were excellent and very reasonably priced, as were the reds - gamay and malbec. The owner is a delightful lady who makes you very welcome.
All in all this was an excellent choice for our holiday and I am pleased to recommend it highly as somewhere to stay.
Thank you for this informative review. We too will be checking out the vinyard you found! Glad you had a good holiday.
Easter visit 2015
The house is absolutely stunning, spacious, clean and well maintained. We enjoyed a very relaxing week with plenty to do in the Loire region for a family of 6 with a wide age range of 7 through to 53.
Beautiful Property set in the grounds of a Chateau
We first visited the Loire valley back in 2001. It has always been on our wish list to revisit again with the intention of going back to some of our favorites.
The property description was very accurate and the location, layout, facilities were as described. When we arrived the property was clean and maintained.
On our arrival we were greeted by a call the following morning from Nigel to check everything was ok which was terrific as there is nothing worse than wishing you could speak to someone to ask a few questions. Great Customer service
We would definitely recommend the property to a friend/relatives who are looking for somewhere tranquil.
We drove down through Le Mans and stayed the night at Mecure le Man which was perfect, had the most wonderful meal in a local restaurant Le Bistrot Sur le place in Le Mans, Superb, just what we needed, great food and a bottle of Chinon. On the way back we drove via Reims to stock up on Champagne. Great week, enjoyed by everyone.
Days filled with Horse riding, Visiting Chateaus, caves, lunching and relaxing by the pool.
The domain is to the west of Blois, to the north of Chaumont, mid-way between Orleans and Tours in the Loire Valley, a UNESCO Heritage site, with a large concentration of chateaux. Many nearby attractions including botanical gardens, forests, lakes, museums, golf courses, and equestrian centres.
It is 15 minutes from Blois which is a small historic city.
Other Activities: badminton, canoeing, visiting chateaux and vinyards, eating!
Golf: The nearest golf course is at Chouzy-Sur-Cisse, approximately 15 minutes drive south of the property.
