Built nearly a century ago, and lovingly restored in 2018, Parkview Villa is a rare example of the Arts & Crafts architectural movement of the late 19th century. It features stunning stained glass throughout the house, and one particular outstanding (and enormous) window in the main stairwell.
The villa was meticulously restored over several years using as many of its original materials as possible- including its original native New Zealand wooden floor. All of the joinery, windows and kitchen fittings, are brand new but were created using original manufacturing techniques.
While Parkview's original character has been preserved, no compromises were made when it came to ensuring that the house had all the comforts of a modern home. The villa is double-glazed, has under-floor insulation and a heating system has been installed throughout the house. As said by Parkview's award-winning builder, "It's warmer than a new house".
All four bedrooms have their own ensuite, with the kind of modern amenities you would expect to find in a modern luxury home. The new kitchen is equipped with long marble benches, and the cabinetry is made from white American Oak, in order to keep with the Villa's aesthetic.
Parkview really is unique- there is no other home like it, in Christchurch or anywhere else. We love it, and we think you will too.
Parkview has been honoured with a long list of awards in the 2007 Canterbury Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards, including:
* The Placemaker's Supreme Award
* Most Energy Efficient
* Micro Bathrooms Excellence Award
