We are originally from Vancouver but have lived in Asia for the past 30 years beginning in Tokyo and going on to Hong Kong, Hanoi, Saigon, Phnom Penh and Bangkok. We returned to our native Canada in 2015 to open East Meets West and have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome into the community and by our amazing guests who come from all over the world. We promise you hospitality at its best as well as wonderful stories of lives well led.

Why Owner chose Sooke
We are in one of the most pristine and beautiful locations we could ever wish fo. Hiking trails and spectacular views of the Olympic Peninsula and Juan de Fuca Straits abound & our property is a jumping off point to may of the best beaches on the west coast as well as some of the most challenging hiking trails in North America. We should mention Port Renfrew where you can explore the World Heritage tidal pools at Botany Bay as well as Avatar Grove where 'the gnarliest tree in the world' is alive & gnarly! The Botanical Beach at Botany Bay is the home of one of the most unique ecosystems in the world & is amazing to explore. There truly is something for everyone right at your fingertips with moderate hikes between East Sooke all the way to Port Renfrew, paddle boarding, swimming in the sea (if you are brave enough) or in the warm Potholes on the Sooke River, surfing if the waves are 'up' at Jordon River, zip lining near 17 mile House, fishing & whale watching (We will happily arrange with good local service providers) & easy access to Victoria & other beautiful spots on the island. We will happily provide you with firsthand knowledge specific to your interests, ensuring your days are filled doing EXACTLY what you want. As far as our property it is beautifully tranquil & a fantastic place to spend your days relaxing if that is what you choose to do and/or to come back to after after an invigorating day out. The cottage offers everything you need & the melding of East and West works beautifully.
What makes this Cottage unique
We were immediately drawn to the property because of the potential we saw in the cottage, the beautiful surroundings and the tranquillity, as well as the easy access to some of the best and most unspoiled beaches and hiking trails on the west coast. The proximity (an easy 40 to 45 minute drive) to Victoria with its beautiful harbour, parks, heritage buildings, Museum, events and great restaurants, & to the renowned Butchers Gardens & the Gulf Islands drew us as well. We felt that everything we could wish for was here & our guests share our sentiments.

Perfect for our group and dogs
You will not find kinder hosts! The property was perfect for our group of 7 and 2 dogs. The kids and dogs had a great time running around the spacious property and there was plenty of room inside for us. We really enjoyed our stay. It was a good, quiet location between Sooke and the west coastline attractions.
We absolutely loved staying at East Meets West!
My husband, kids, dog and I were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived.
The home was impeccable, warm and welcoming. And the property, a paradise for our 3 young explorers. They spent most of their time there outside, either on the rope swing or running around the property playing with the dogs.
Julie and Michael were wonderful hosts! Very helpful and accommodating.
We truly enjoyed spending time with them and listening to their amazing adventures.
Hope to go back very soon! Our children are already asking when we'll return. :-)
Thank you so much Lucy Ana for your kind words. Michael and I so enjoyed your visit. Your children are AMAZING as are you and Rob. You were so good for our souls! Do you know when you were leaving, Kai came up to me and said, “Thank you for having us. It was very comfortable” and then repeated “....very comfortable!” I thought it was such an incredibly nice, mature comment. Please tell Sofia that I still have her daffodil and cherry blossoms on the window sill and have moved her photo on to the refrigerator upstairs. We loved meeting Tom and Nicole as well and would welcome you all back in a heartbeat. We so hope our paths will cross again before we leave.
Know that you have made our hearts very full.

Welcoming and amazing!!!!
We celebrated Thanksgiving at East meets West B&B. Julie and Michael are gracious hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Their home is warm and inviting, ample room for my family of six with comfortable beds, interesting coffee table books, and a rope swing. Breakfasts were delicious and a nice time to chat with Julie and Michael to get to know them and their extensive knowledge of the Sooke area. We definitely recommend staying here.
We so enjoyed having you and Dean and your family come to stay. The warmth and positive energy between you all was palpable for Michael and I and it was such a pleasure to quietly observe. Watching you working together to get everything ready for Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday morning was really something - team work at its absolute best and so apparent that you’d done this before! You really managed to get out and do a lot in the time you were here with Sandcut and China Beaches Saturday then East Sooke on Sunday despite a wet West Coast day Sunday. Thank you very much for choosing us. Your stay was very memorable for us and we would welcome you back in a heartbeat. Take care - we wish you good things always.

Hospitality abounds at East meets West
What a wonderful experience for our group of three couples. East meets West is set in the country, just a short drive from Victoria. We enjoyed our stay from beginning to end, starting with the care and attention we received from our hosts - Michael and Julie. With their warm, heartfelt greeting, their generous assistance in organizing our activities, and the personal touch they've given to the cottage, we immediately felt at ease and at home. We all enjoyed the comfort of the cottage living, sleeping and bath rooms, along with the delicious breakfast and coffee our hosts prepared each morning of our stay. Adding to our delightful stay were the intriguing array of furnishings, and the wealth of overseas travel and work experiences Michael and Julie willingly shared with us. We'll long remember our stay, and highly recommend you choose to stay at East meets West. We're confident you won't be disappointed.
Oh my God, Derek and Kim, John and Laurie and Matt and Rebecca,
Goodness....thank you so much for your kind words. Over the top...truly.
It is Michael and I who want to say how much we LOVED meeting you all and how comfortable we all were from the very beginning with one another. You made it so easy for us. I would hear your laughter and kept thinking how wonderful it was for good friends to get away atogether and share the time that you did. You were so appreciative and so positive and keen to get out and do as much as you could. What a great way to live your lives. We would welcome you all back in a heartbeat. How lucky we feel that you decided on us and how much we hope our paths will cross again! You just never know....and won’t that be something.
Thank you so much. Our hearts are very full -

Wonderful experience! Gacious hosts, delicious & varied gourmet breakfasts, good location.
This property and owners exceeded our expectations. The location was great as was the property itself--spacious 4 acres w/ tree swing that occupied kids ages 7-14. Lots of wildlife. Owners Julie and Michael were not only personable with interesting stories and backgrounds, they were gracious and friendly and helpful. Each morning they prepared and served to us delicious and appealing breakfasts that we devoured--and then they cleaned up too. Didn't expect any of that! They were interesting world travelers who were also genuinely interested in us, their guests and making sure we had everything we needed. Thanks to both. We all (4 adults and 3 children) recommend this property to all who wish a relaxing visit. Jennings family (Germany & Houston) June 2018
East Meets West in Style!
We spent the better part of two weeks at this amazing property which was decorated with furniture and treasures brought back from Asia. The home was beautiful, the grounds were fabulous, the location was driving distance to so many incredible sites we didn't have time to visit them all. With all of the above and more going for it, our hosts, Julie and Michael, along with their two dogs, Sammie and Molly, were the very best part of our stay. We've never felt so pampered or spoiled. The food, the music, the atmosphere were all incredible, and the company was spectacular. We recommend East Meets West unreservedly and are already thinking of a return trip.
Oh Jodie and Greg,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We really MISS you and honestly are suffering from SERIOUS Jodie/Greg/Charli/Diego withdrawal.Incredible gratitude is due to you both for just being who you are and we thank you a million times over that you found us. Karma for sure! We were so happy to meet Brad and Megan and Bob as well - what a fantastic family you have and talk about kindness and generosity. You leave us this beautiful note and gift and we couldn’t believe it when flowers and a reallyheart warming note arrived today from Bob. Just AMAZING! We are completely overwhelmed.
We know this is a wonderfully natural friendship and can’t wait to see you the next time - in Vancouver or here. Of course we are tres curious and very anxious to know what your thinking is on the next step for 3175 Humpback! I thought the property AND the house were amazing AND very quirky - two essential qualities for you guys! Will call tonight or manana. In the meantime, we send much love and many many thanks.

Sooke is 35 kilometres from Victoria, BC on the west coast of Vancouver Island & is renowned for its natural beauty. Hiking trails abound from the Juan de Fuca and West Coast trails to Sooke Regional Park, East Sooke Park and The Galloping Goose which goes all the way to Victoria. To name a few - Gordon's Beach, French Beach Provincial Park, Jordan River, China Beach, Mystic Beach, Sombrio $ Parkinsons Creek. Port Renfrew itself is the home of Botanical Beach & Botany Bay which has been designated as a World Heritage Site.
Other highlights are fishing both individual or charter, whale watching, zip lining, biking, swimming and rafting. Among local eateries are The Prestige Hotel, Sooke Harbour House, Wild Mountain & Point No Point, all exceptionally fine dining restaurants; Shirley Delicious, The Old Vienna Bakery & Jenny's, for breakfast & lunch, Route 14, a favourite of ours is a Pub with very good Bistro food & Hara Sushi, in town has fantastic sushi, this coming from us after living in Tokyo for a long time!
