About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Imagine yourself watching the sunrise over the Colorado River flowing into Lake Buchanan while sipping coffee in a cool breeze on the multi-level deck, shaded by mature live oaks. Bald Eagle Cottage is the perfect spot to relax and commune with nature....or spend a romantic getaway, family reunion, guys/gals fun weekend. Sunsets are just as fantastic, illuminating the expanse of riverbed and hilly, forested park and ranch land. Treat your family to this serene and scenic location in Texas Lake Country.

Tow Village is literally at the end of the road, lying just south of vast ranch land and state parks. Great memories are made in unspoiled places such as this. Wildlife abounds, to be seen on short or long hikes, by kayak, canoe, fishing boat, or from the pier or deck. Bring your binoculars!

Located less than 2 hours from Austin, about 2.5 hours from San Antonio, and 4 hours from Dallas, Bald Eagle Cottage is nicely decorated, fully equipped and comfortable for 4-6 people. With two bedrooms and a loft, it's great for 4 adults or 2 adults with 2-4 children. Other features now that lake levels are high: boat ramp (which is on the steep side - alternate ramps nearby), fishing pier, dock and over 100 feet of waterfront. The dock is afloat since last March and ready to tie up your boat!

The LCRA provides current information regarding lake conditions, levels, ramps and weather; the Lake Buchanan-Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce covers regional attractions and activities.

Bald Eagle Cottage does not offer wifi although cellular coverage is good. The nearby Lakeshore Library on TX-261 offers 24/7 wifi. TV reception is limited, often to just one channel. Bring your own DVDs or explore our mostly VHS collection. New model TV and DVD/VHS player. We do not have central heating/cooling. There are 3 air conditioners for warm weather visits. For cooler months, there are space heaters and a wood stove in the living room that makes the cottage quite toasty.

$100 reservation/damage deposit. Summer rate - $130/night; Winter - $110/night. $25 surcharge/night on holiday weekends. 10% lodging tax. $60 cleaning fee. Pet friendly! (1-2 dogs allowed at $20/pet for up to 1 week).

We use HomeAway Payments system exclusively.

About Lyn Taecker

Lyn and Kevin have been occasional Texans for decades, thanks to relatives who live in the area. We have owned Bald Eagle Cottage since 2005.

Lyn Taecker purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Lyn Taecker chose Lake Buchanan

We always enjoy the beauty of the lake area. It is fun to explore the wider Hill Country, and to watch the varied wildlife. There's a lot to be said for this relaxed pace of life! Let Bald Eagle Cottage be your "home away from home".

What makes this cottage unique

We love this quiet place, relaxing on the shady deck, stargazing away from city lights, hiking, and most especially, observing many species of wildlife. The Texas Hill Country has many attractions and activities to explore if you want to get up and go.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful and relaxing time at the cottage last weekend. I was really impressed by how nice and organized everything was! We hope to stay there again sometime soon with our friends. I think they would love it too!

Great outside area with 2 decks and a pier.

  • 4 of 5

We really liked this place. It was somewhat remote and quiet. The house was comfortable and cozy and the decks were perfect for relaxing outside. There is a fairly steep slope to the lake which made it difficult for my husband who has mobility issues. We never did get to try our luck at fishing, but the pier is very sturdy and inviting. All in all, definitely a good place for a relaxing vacation.

Relaxing and Cozy Cottage on Lake Buchanan

  • 5 of 5

We visited from San Antonio TX:

My husband, brother, sister-in-law and I spent the Thanksgiving weekend at the Bald Eagle Cottage. It was everything we had expected and more! Everything we needed was supplied for us. The cottage is extremely well stocked, and even has a washer and dryer. All we were required to bring was our clothes and our food! The cottage is lovely, clean. The dock and pier are excellent. We didn't catch any fish, but we had a great time trying. The weekend was so very relaxing for everyone to be able to hang out at the pier, sit on the porch, or gather in the living room for a game or movie. Great time to reconnect! An added bonus was Fall Creek winery, which was less than a mile away. We drove to Llano for some excellent BBQ on Friday. The neighbors were extremely helpful, as was the brother(?) across the street. The morning we left, my husband had a flat tire and couldn't disengage his spare. Jack from next door had an air compressor and pumped the tire so that we were able to make it to Marble Falls Discount Tire. We will definitely return when we can. Thank you for such a relaxing experience. You managed to think of everything that could possibly be needed.

Nice & relaxing

  • 4 of 5

While I was there, I didn't catch any fish (tried everything in my limited arsenal), got bit by a spider (on the covered boat dock) & lost my $250 Costa sunglasses (in the center of the horseshoe end of the boat dock), but I still enjoyed my stay. The house is very nice, for a "lake house" & had everything you would need. There were a few daddy long legs in the restroom, but again, it's not a 4 star hotel. I would stay here again, but would try some different fishing techniques. I even saw a good size buck deer swimming across the lake, which I had never seen before. Deer everywhere. The neighbors were friendly & probably should have asked if they had a net to try & retrieve my sunglasses, but didn't. So, any future renters could have a windfall, if they could dredge them up. Overall, even with my negative parts, I did enjoy my stay.

Owner's Response: Wow, I am glad you had lots of outdoor time with some neat experiences, but I am so sorry to hear of spider bite - hope it has healed. I have asked our handyman and neighbors to try to locate the sunglasses. If found, we will mail to you ASAP (I hate being without mine!). Thanks for taking good care of the cottage, you are always welcome back. Hopefully the fish will be biting the next time.

Awesome trip!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a perfect place for a family vacation. Had everything we needed for the week we stayed there. The covered boat dock was an awesome plus for my boat, as well as the private boat ramp. A little steep but was able to put in and take out from right at the house. Will definitely be planning another trip next year.

Serene Lake Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The location of this property was perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway.

It has a fishing dock and a boat dock. We brought our Boston Whaler and took advantage of both.

The cabin is clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed.

Will definitely stay here again~

Great place for kids, fishing, relaxing or a base for the hill country

  • 5 of 5

Overall, great place to stay. We will stay here again at the next vacation chance we get. I arrived to a clean house with ample space for a family of 5. It was pouring down rain the whole drive and I was very worried about how the trip would turn out. Upon arrival the neighbor's son saw my fishing gear and allowed me to use his casting net and helped stock his own bait bucket (for my use) to fish. When he reeled in his line there was already a nice sized catfish on! A few hours later the weather cleared and I launched my kayak to fish. I caught some nice sized bass and drum. While I was gone there was ample space for the wife and kids to stay entertained. That evening the kids and I fished until bedtime off the dock catching various drum and HUGE gar. See the rain scared all the catfish off but the drum and gar were a a lot of fun to catch. The next morning, on account of the rain we drove to the longhorn caverns and inks lake state park. The caverns were dry and inks lake was a lot of fun for the kids. That night the whole family fished into the night while it poured rain. It was a great family moment! The next day I took my son out on the kayak to see the falls and fish. We were striper hunting and came up with a few catfish but no stripers. So rain in the summer with abnormally cool weather=lots of gar and drum. The house was a perfect base station for visiting that area of the hill country. We bought our own supplies and anything we needed we could just ask the owners brother in law who lives across the way. By the way, the owners brother in law and wife were extremely nice and offered use of their paddle boat and even gave us some fishing tips. Their house is for sale too if your interested in it! We would buy it in a heartbeat if the timing wasn't off for us.
