About Angela Carlin
Our small family LOVES Day Island! We purchased this property in 2015 and have been continually awed by the beauty of this island. We always dreamed of owning and managing a rental property, and couldn't imagine a better building. Matt has an MBA and loves small business management. Angela spent years managing a spiritual retreat center and is delighted to offer hospitality and welcome in her own rental. She grew up helping her parents with their apartment management business in Tacoma. We love watching our red-headed toddler enjoy exploring the beach at low tide and growing up next to the water.
Angela Carlin purchased this Apartment in 2015
Why Angela Carlin chose University Place
Tacoma, uniquely and wonderfully, has miles of uninterrupted waterfront promenade and parks. That makes private waterfront property rare in the area. When we relocated back to the Northwest from St. Louis in 2013, we dreamed of going the literal "extra mile" and living right on the water. This building may be one of the only small waterfront apartment buildings for miles, and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy on exclusive Day Island. Buying this apartment home was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we couldn't be happier.
What makes this Apartment unique
Truly the best of both worlds, Day Island is a small, warm community that seems far away from everything, yet we are very close to some of the best conveniences of University Place, including the new Whole Foods market. We could sit at the edge of the yard for hours watching the wildlife and the sunsets over the Narrows Bridge. As we continue to put our own touches on this charming home, we look forward to building a dock and launching kayaks right out of our backyard.

We enjoyed our stay here. Never had a problem parking in this quiet neighborhood. We loved that we were close to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. We prefer not to eat out for all our meals while on vacation. However we did go to Lefty's twice during our stay. Great burgers fries and fried pickle chips. Yes the train whistle is loud and the first night was rough but we were quite used to it by the end of our stay. We loved Chambers park and Titlow park which are both close by. Also the Nisqually Nature preserve was worth the visit. This was our second trip to Washington. We love it here! The hosts are very accommodating and the apartment is very cozy and comfortable. It was a relaxing stay. I sat outside and watched the seals and birds while my husband stayed inside and read his book when we weren't out sight seeing.
Great place in Tacoma
We really enjoyed staying at Day Island. It's in a nice location on the water in a great neighborhood. The condo was clean and had plenty of amenities just as the listing stated. Angela provided a book with some helpful information on the condo and the area and her contact information. Luckily we did not have any issues during our stay so we did not need to contact her.
It suited our needs perfectly as we wanted to explore the areas around Seattle; Mt. Rainier, Olympic National Park, and Portland. We would recommend this unit to anyone wanting to stay in Tacoma.
The Perfect Space!
My husband and I used this wonderful place as a home base for a weeks worth of mountain bike adventures and sight seeing. It could not have been more perfect. It was open, airy, clean, and comfortable. Angela went through the extra effort of making several personal touches to welcome us from the start. We felt right at home. Everything was very cozy and comfortable on the inside, and we enjoyed some quality evenings sitting out back by the water. The neighborhood was quiet and a nice retreat. We would highly recommend this to any couple visiting the area and would ourselves certainly stay again if we make it back to the area for future west coast adventures. Thank you Angela!
Excellent Place to Stay!
This cozy apartment was just the right size for our mother and daughter weekend getaway. The place is spotless, tastefully decorated, and has such a relaxing view over the water. There are three apartments within the house, and this apartment is on the bottom level. Although we were out and about most of the day, we barely heard footsteps above us in the morning or evening (and it was the weekend). Plenty of windows to brighten the place and enjoy the view. The neighborhood is really nice and there was so much to do in the area, including lots of good restaurant choices. We had dinner in one night and the kitchen was nicely furnished to make a great meal. It was very thoughtful of the owner to provide a nice welcome gift. That is a rare thing these days. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and on my next visit to the Tacoma-Seattle area I would rather stay at the Day Island apartment than stay in Seattle.
Fabulous apartment on a beautiful little Island
We had six wonderful nights at this fabulous apartment. It has everything you need and Angela makes sure of that. On arrival after six hours in the car we arrived to bottles of water and yummy local chocolates waiting for us, plus a lovely welcome note from Angela saying if there was anything we needed we only had to phone her & ask.
The bed & pillows were so comfy we both slept so well. The kitchen has everything you would need plus you have the shared use of a washer & dryer which after a few weeks on the road was just perfect.
The lounge has a big picture window to look down onto the water. While we were there we saw a big seal, just playing in the water below for a few hours & with him looking at us, looking at him!
We also saw an eagle which flew right over our heads with its young, we were truly captivated by them both. There are also hummingbirds, woodpeckers, herons, ducks & Canadian geese.
There were two chairs right outside the apartment and another two down by the water for our use, which was so nice to sit outside & watch all the wonderful wildlife.
Supermarkets are no more than a five minute drive away as are the local restaurants.
Although there was no designated parking for us, we had no problem at all parking our car close by.
If you want a little piece of heaven, you will not be disappointed by this beautifully appointed apartment.
Thank you Angela for everything, we hope to return from England one day for an even longer stay.
Clean and Simple
I enjoyed my stay. I am glad Trader Joe's is so close. I was able to pick up everything I needed for my weekend getaway. I just wanted a quiet space to enjoy a good book, and I got it.
Chamber's Bay Golf Course, home of the 2015 US Open, is less than four miles away. Wildlife abounds in the peaceful lagoon out your backdoor, or a five minute walk provides abundant views of the larger Puget Sound.
