About Jan Burdick
The owners of this property are 18 cousins who inherited the cottage from their Aunt Esther, who thoughtfully wanted to make the cottage accessible for all of us, most of whom have fond memories of playing at the beach and visiting Aunt Esther as children and young adults. We are scattered all across the country but some of us make it back to stay in the cottage regularly, soaking up the memories and the beach.

Home Sweet Home
Though the description led us to believe that the ocean was just down the enchanted tree lined path and the picture looks like there is a huge yard surrounding this home, we were not disappointed at all! The neighboring houses are very close and the yard very small, but they were all so nice! The house was perfect for all four of us to enjoy! It was in a perfect centralized location where we could enjoy many of the coastal towns, Hartford( Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe homes) and New Haven (Yale University). We also enjoyed the short drive to Essex, where we boarded a steam engine and then enjoyed a ride on a riverboat down the Connecticut River. The beach near the house was very nice to walk in the afternoon ! It was just perfect!!!Jan was very prompt on returning emails and made our stay very enjoyable
Beach life for a week
A great time was had by all. We spent a lot of time walking up and down the beach.
Great location in a quiet neighborhood with a short walk to a beautiful beach on the Long Island sound. A short walk up the beach brings you to Harkness Memorial State Park. Also easy access to points north and south off of I 95.
Love the proximity to the beach, plenty of space for our family of four. Thank you!
Very quaint cottage in a great location.
Our stay was enjoyable. The hosts left a few snacks and directions for the house. However, the amenities list a fireplace, which when we got there we were told we could not use. That was a disappointment since we were staying during the Christmas holiday and it was cold out. There was also an electrical issue in the bathroom which caused the light switch to not work, hard to turn lamp on in middle of the night.
We are sorry your stay wasn't everything you had hoped for. The fireplace used to work and it was our oversight to not remove it as a feature in our description. The bathroom light will be fixed ASAP. We had hoped the nightlight would have given enough light in the dark. We appreciate the feedback so we can continue to make our guests' stays better every year!
The home and location was very nice and very clean. We chose the location because it is convenient to shopping, site seeing and our family and friends. The beach is great-I loved the soft sand.
We love it when folks staying at our cottage enjoy the beach so much. It's never the same two days in a row. We are glad you had a good time and hope to see you again.
The beach is the most compelling recreation for us. Some of our other favorite places are more than 15 minutes away so couldn't list them above.
Mystic Seaport and Aquarium are 30 minutes away. There is a unique used book store in Niantic (15 minutes) called the Book Barn that we highly recommend.
There are fantastic restaurants, boating options, sports, a casino and much more within 15 - 30 minutes.
