About Grace Hawthorne
We have lived in Mill Valley for over 18 years because of the charming downtown, wonderful access to trails, beautiful redwoods and proximity to San Francisco.
Grace Hawthorne purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Grace Hawthorne chose Mill Valley
Helens Ln. is the closest walk to downtown with the priceless view of Mt. Tam. This guest house will be like your home away from home because of the spaciousness and the full size kitchen. Newly furnished with modern furnishings and amenities.
What makes this Cottage unique
A five minute walk or a two minute drive downtown will put you in a sea of culinary delights-- award winning restaurants, gourmet grocery store, excellent coffee and what we call nature's cathedral-- running streams, giant redwoods, chirping birds.

Very nice detached guest house
We loved staying here. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again.
A Lovely Weekend in Mill Valley
Thank you so much for having me. Your home was beautiful! I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. My favorite part was enjoying coffee in the sun-drenched living room with incredible views of Mt. Tam.
Great Mill Valley location
The cottage was very well appointed and although we didn't end up doing any cooking, the kitchen appeared to be updated and very workable with a gas stove, nice dishes and good pots and pans. The bedroom is on the entry level floor and the living room, dining area and kitchen on an upstairs upper floor. The location is up in the hill area right behind the central Mill Valley Lytton square which includes the Depot (currently under remodel). Parking is provided on a pad right by the entrance but it is tight as the roads in this upper area are narrow so in parts the two lane passage is not easy. A fair number of people were simply walking down to the square and we might have chosen to do so, had we been there longer and not had so many people to visit during our short stay. The view of Mt. Tam and surroundings from the upper floor was spectacular. We would definitely stay there again.
This is really a beautiful place to stay in Mill Valley. I was in SF for work and stayed 11 days, I loved everything about it. :)
This cottage had everything we needed for our two week vacation. The views were great and the location was perfect. We only wish the furniture was more comfortable and there were more channels on the TV. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We really appreciated the bottles of water and the snack waiting for us on our arrival. We would stay here again.
Nice getaway in the hills of Mill Valley
This was a nice getaway and nice alternative to staying in a hotel. Well appointed kitchen and everything in working order. We did not walk to town because we were here to visit family on the other side of town. The one negative is the bedroom is essentially a basement room and seemed musty. Maybe it could have been aired out a little better. Otherwise, everything was great. Since we are moving on to Yosemite from here, it was nice to have a chance to do some laundry. We love Mill Valley and this is a nice location for exploring Mt. Tam, Muir Woods and other nearby wonders.
Conveniently located about half a mile from downtown Mill Valley, this freestanding guest house is on a residential street that is quiet. A five minute walk or two minute drive puts you in the center of town where there are trails, parks, great restaurants, shopping, cafes and gorgeous redwoods and running streams.
