40 Blissful Acres
Such a relaxing time away. The house is situated such that you feel away from outside world & yet it is 8 minute drive into town. The property was well maintained, even paths into woods and river were mowed. The resident horse was soo sweet. I loved that i could bring my 2 dogs along. Jen, the owner, was very reachable by phone & helpful with some minor issues I had with the tv. Her home was lovely and I appreciated the artsy style. I took many long walks and enjoyed the firepit one evening with family. Hope to return next year.
River is not close to cabin
Cabin is very nice. Very cool treehouse. River is quite a hike, a little unnerving after seeing very large bear. River not deep for swimming. Highway noise constantly.
The river is 1500 feet from the cabin. And there is a very nice trail through the woods to reach it and nice mowed areas down by he rivers edge. The Lehigh is not a deep river at any point really, but it is a class A stream with native brook trout along our stretch.
In regard to the bear,it is the Poconos ! I thought you said you grew up in the lake wallenpaupak area ? If so, you would likely be familiar with the fact bears live in the Poconos . Yes there are black bears and rarely do people see them. You were lucky. I’ve lived there 20 years and probably only seen a bear 4 times. But they do exist, in fact they are often in the developments because people feed them.( not a good thing) I did notice the sound of traffic down by the river during the time of your stay and it was annoying, you can’t hear it up by the cabin . it was due to the fact there was a detour due to highway construction , routing traffic off of interstate 80 and down route 115 past our property. So it was a temporary situation. I noticed you brought your dogs, but did not put on your reservation you were bringing pets. We require that information because we require pets to be up to date on shots and we require they be on leash and not chasing the horse or wildlife. Yours were running loose and that’s why you asked me if bears ever give dogs a problem. No black bear is ever going to approach you and your dogs on leash. But yes, there could be a problem if your dog doesn’t know better than to chase one.
Peace in the Poconos
Booking to departure went without a hitch. Jennifer was so easy to work with and readily available for any questions or recommendations. Location was central to things that we wanted to do. The interior of the house is spotless and so very comfortable. Everything we needed in kitchen and bathroom was provided. Beds were sooo comfortable and ready for us to just get in. Cirus the 30 yr. old resident horse was an added bonus. He is so sweet. He gently took carrots and apples from our hands. Overall I would recommend this property. Would definitely visit again. Thank you Jennifer for opening your home to us.
Charming & Peaceful Pocono House
My family and our friends travel to the Poconos often and we were pleasantly surprised by this house!! The photos were very alluring online and this property did not disappoint. Having the open field space with the river nearby was wonderful for our young boys to play, fish and swim. The lovely horse was magical for all of us to have on the property. The boys fell in love with him immediately. There was lots of space for two families and the bathroom was very large so having only one was no big deal at all. It was so nice to have fresh towels and linens provided! The kitchen had everything we needed and we had a great 4 day weekend!! Jen was easy to reach and was very accommodating. We hope to stay at this property again in the near future.
The land and the buildings, our main cabin and the two smaller ones, are the perfect family retreat. Though you can still hear the road from time to time you will enjoy quiet and solitude, there is no one adjacent to the property. The horse is your only companion, maybe an egret, or a bear. It is truly a get-away, with so much near by to go to. We had the best host ever, I have rented a lot of homes, she was so gracious. The whole place was a wonder. The specifics of the interior are well documented but the feeling is even better, lovely things, good beds, great towels. Having one bathroom in the main cabin was well compensated for as the other cabins had full baths and even kitchens. You will love this place!
Quiet and relaxing
The house was amazing. Better then I imagined. Beautifully decorated. Everytime I walked into a room I found something new to look at. The place has everything you could need for your stay.
The house is far enough away from everything for the quiet relaxation you are looking for, yet close enough to stores and restaurants for anything you might need. (Highly recommend Woody's Country House for dinner, a short 10-15 minute drive)
Jen, the owner, was quick to respond to my phone calls. She responded within 5 to 10 minutes. Very pleasant to speak with.
Would certainly consider returning again for a start. Maybe longer next time.
