Townhouse On Oglethorpe Avenue With Private Parking & 2 Back Porches
About Mary Anderson
I'm Mary Anderson and I am the reservation manager for the Rue House. I have lived in Savannah since 2002. I began operating my first VRBO in 2010 which was a garden apartment below my home in the Historic District. As a mother who already worked at home, hosting VRBO guests was perfect fit. I had a whirlwind first year of back to back lovely guests. Before I knew it multiple friends & neighbors asked me to operate their downtown vacation rentals too! As of 2016 I now manage over 40 vacation rentals in the Historic District of Savannah! I am also a licensed Realtor in the state of Georgia specializing in 2nd homes and investment property here in Savannah.
Why Mary Anderson chose Historic District - North
Savannah's downtown Historic District is one of the most beautiful & walkable cities in the world. We have one square mile of mixed residential and commercial historic buildings with shops, restaurants, museums and homes. Mixed in there are 21 "squares" which are like miniature public parks. The result is a memorable experience that even the most worldly travelers come to love and want to revisit time and time again.
What makes this House unique
This home was renovated by a local family that genuinely, passionately loves the historic homes of Savannah. It is located in prime tourist territory in Savannah's Landmark Historic District. Across the street from the northern end of Colonial Park Cemetery as well as the historic Police Headquarters which is still in operation today. Having a private parking spot behind the house is a special luxury, but you will not need your car at this location you can walk to everything.

Really enjoyed this house.
We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful, historic home. The location was great, within walking distance of historic Savannah. The amenities in the home were good, very comfortable.
We appreciate our guests taking the time to extend compliments so much! Thanks for staying.
Accommodations were perfect.
Wonderful place to stay
My husband, sister and brother-in-law stayed with me at the Rue House for 4 days. We were very pleased with the place. It was absolutely beautiful. Very cozy and bright, yet historic. It was so much nicer than staying in a hotel. It was very clean and spacious. The two bedrooms have private bathrooms and there is a half bathroom off of the kitchen. Every room was gorgeous with chandeliers and fireplaces. The kitchen and bathrooms were updated and spacious and there is a washer/dryer combo for convenience. There are two nice porches to sit on. I already miss staying there and would highly it to anyone.
The house is located on East Oglethorpe Avenue, which is a gorgeous street near historic Colonial Park Cemetery. One caveat, though. Stay alert for potential crime on the streets of Savannah, including Oglethorpe, especially in the early morning when fewer people are on the street. The back door of the house leads to a secluded street so better not to use that late at night or early in the morning. On our last morning, my husband and brother-in-law were outside at 5 a.m. in the front on Oglethorpe with our luggage waiting for an UBER ride to the airport when they noticed a lone, hooded man lurking in the bushes of the median strip separating the opposing lanes of traffic on Oglethorpe. He stared at them for what seemed like a minute and then crossed the street approaching them. My brother-in-law is an ex-prison guard who worked with criminals for many years. He was immediately alarmed by the man's antagonistic attitude and felt that the man was a potential mugger so he stared back at him intently to show that he was not afraid. The man walked up close to them, then grunted and walked on by. My brother-in-law is 6'3" and thinks that the man was weighing whether to mug them, but decided not to mess with him and my 6' husband. My sister and I were coming around the corner onto Oglethorpe after dropping off the garbage at the back of the house. We nearly ran into the man. Fortunately, we feel like we surprised him before he could decide to potentially make a move so he grunted at us and kept walking. We all are convinced that we were nearly mugged. Other than that, our visit was perfect.
The property was exactly what we expected to be it did not disappoint!
Great locate, very clean. Highly recommend to anyone staying for a girls trip in Savannah. Walking distance to river street and city market.
We enjoyed the house and how easy it was to access everything in town. The house was clean and beds comfortable.
A couple concerns: the back exterior stairs which were very slippery when wet. The interior staircase banister was rickety and needed attention. The front door knob was about to fall out, so we just used the back door to come and go. However, for a home in the historic district, we were very pleased.
Great house. Great area
The house was perfect for our family getaway. The bedroom on Oglethorpe is bit loud due to traffic but there’s nothing that can be done about that. Many restaurants within walking distance. Home was historic and nicely appointed. Beds were comfortable. I would def stay there again!
This spot is in the Downtown Savannah Landmark Historic District
Within walking distance there are multiple restaurants, bars, museums and the 21 "Squares" which are like miniature public parks in Savannah. Forsyth Park is the large central park of downtown Savannahh, about half a mile south of here. Downtown Savannah boasts 3-4 public playgrounds, and Forsyth Park has public tennis courts. There is one large grocery store Kroger and several smaller specialty grocery stores(Brighter Day and the Butcher Shop). We have several high end day spas with massage services, facials and mani/pedis. Near downtown you will find several golf courses, multiple boat launches (less than 5 miles away) and marinas and Tybee Island Beach is 17 miles from Downtown Savannah.
