Why Tina and Dean Peterson chose Richmond
This is a beautiful place. On any given night, the sunset over the lake provides a soul-satisfying display. The sounds of frogs and water birds singing away is a soothing serenade. Occasionally, coyotes singing in the distance will add their voices to the symphony. Although we are located away from large cities, it is an easy commute by train to Chicago, or by car to Milwaukee, Madison or Rockford. The Fox Lake Metra train station is a 15 minute drive, and from there, the Metra train can take you into the city for sporting events including Cubs & White Sox baseball, Chicago Bears football, Blackhawks and Fire Hockey, and Chicago Bulls basketball. There are fantastic museums including the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum of Natural History,
What makes this Bed And Breakfast unique
In addition to the lake and its attendant benefits, there is a park with a playground and hiking trails within about 4 blocks of the cottage. Harvest Time Apple Orchard operates from mid August through November and is within a country mile of the Inn. Vail Resorts operates a ski hill and a snow tubing hill five miles down the road in the quaint little town of Wilmot, Wisconsin. Agri-tourism is big in this area. There are two excellent farms within 5 miles, each offering unique opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Stades Farm Market offers pick your own strawberries, raspberries, snap peas, beans, and other produce in season, as well as fresh baked pies, doughnuts and other homemade treats. From about labor day until Halloween, they also operate many attractions such as a petting zoo, jumping bean, pumpkin cannon, zip line, corn maze, hayrides and many other rides. Richardson's Adventure farm operates the largest corn maze in the midwest and they also offer many opportunities to outdoor fun. If you want to visit a city there are three large ones within about an hour. The closest is Chicago, followed by Naperville, Milwaukee and Madison. Each city offers its own brand of midwestern fun and excitement. Chicago is accessible by the Metra commuter train and the others are within about an hour drive.

Very good stay for Labor Day weekend.

Should be called a B&B
We chose The Inn at Lake Elizabeth because of its proximity to the Chain-O-Lakes where we had rented a boat. We were so happy we found it and that it was available over the 4th of July!
Dean and Tina are welcoming and delightful to talk to. The Inn at Lake Elizabeth is modest, but beautifully kept up and very clean. Dean and Tina brought us breakfast each morning - according to our agreed upon schedule and menu. That was above and beyond what we had expected of our stay.
Their suggestions on what to do and where to go were full of good information and provided us with different activities to choose from.
We were within walking distance of a bar/restaurant and we took advantage of that a couple of times. Most of the time we were on the boat so we didn't take advantage of the beach or paddle boarding that were available down the road.
Originally we only had 4 of us and could fit in the available beds just fine. When our other daughter arrived (making 5), Dean and Tina offered to open up their newly finished section with another bathroom and bedroom. There was an extra cost, of course, but sooo worth having the extra room. We will definitely stay at the Inn on Lake Elizabeth again if we are in the area.
Thia, it was a pleasure to host you and your family. We're so glad that you had such a great time on the lakes in the area, and we enjoyed helping you make the most of your stay. We'd love to have you back any time!
Relaxing Lake Rental
After spending a weekend in Chicago, we wanted a relaxing day before we headed home. This was absolutely perfect!! Beautiful views of the lake, and Dean & Tina were wonderful hosts!! They checked in with us several times to make sure we had everything we needed, and the breakfast they prepared for us was fantastic. Our next trip to the area will definitely include a return to the cottage, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway.
It was a real pleasure to host your family, Rob. We enjoyed talking with all of you and we're glad to hear you'll be coming back!
Little duplex with lake views
Tina and Dean were attentive and pleasant. They were very responsive and offered suggestions for fishing spots and dining. The place was tidy and clean. Tina walked my son and me down to the marina on the night we arrived and gave us a little tour of the neighborhood. The warm cookies were a great surprise on our first night.
Very clean and neat. Although the pictures seem like you are on the lake, you are across the lake on a reserve and very weedy and cannot access the lake from rental. Another suggestion would be coffee cups. Owners very friendly and nice and helpful.
Great location. Clean and great price.
Just as advertised and the hosts were prompt with responses. They also made sure we had some info about the area.
Thanks so much for choosing to stay at our location. It was a pleasure hosting you and your friends!

Summertime is a great time to explore all that northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin offer. The crystal clean Twin Lakes of Lake Elizabeth and Lake Mary offer swimming, boating, paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. The marina located 1/4 mile away offers boat, jet ski, paddle board and kayak rentals. There is also a great little restaurant and bar to watch the sunset and enjoy a meal at the marina, which is easy walking distance. Access to the Chain O'Lakes is just 5 miles down the road at Chain O'Lakes State Park and you can spend many days exploring the 10 lakes of the Chain O'Lakes system connected by the Fox River. The park also features horseback riding, picnic areas and great hiking and bicycling. Another wonderful park within 5 miles is Glacial Park. Glacial has a nature center, many miles of hiking trails, glorious prairies and a fun and fabulous waterway on the Nippersink Creek for canoeing and kayaking fun. The McHenry County Conservation District offers many programs throughout the year. Closer by, the Varga Archaeological preserve is just down the street and features prairie trails, birdwatching, and some of the last few acres of calcareous bog left in Illinois. The Illinois portion of Lake Elizabeth, just across the street from this property, is an Illinois Wildlife Preserve offering safe harbor to several threatened and endangered species such as the sandhill cranes who nest in the area, Blandings turtle and black terns.
A favorite way to enjoy the lake without actually being on it is to walk down to the Sand Bar and Island Grill for lunch or dinner and watch the boats go in and out of the marina, or take in the sunset while sipping your favorite cold drink and listening to the music.
The areas parks and lakes are not the only venue to enjoy the beautiful wide open spaces that we have come to cherish. Several local farms have opened their farms to the public, selling fresh produce (both pick your own and pre picked), crafts, and activities that are sure to tire your children out. Stade's farm market offers a petting zoo, wagon rides, a gift shop featuring baked goods, fresh jelly and jams, produce in season. Please see www.stadesfarmandmarket.com for details. Another local farm that offers great fun is Richardson's Adventure Farm. Located just 5 miles from the house, Richardson's plants a 30 acre corn maze with a new pattern every year. This maze draws the attention of more than 50,000 people each year as people try to find their way through. Richardson's also offer zip lines and other opportunities throughout the season.
If good food is a must, then you have come to the right place! Paisano's in Richmond is a wonderful restaurant offering both Italian cuisine and atmosphere for dinner only. Fabulous murals, pillars and decor transport you to Tuscany, Italy. The food and service is consistently excellent. Reservations are a must! Another excellent choice for dinner is Twin Oaks Country Inn in Wilmot. Located in a beautifully maintained Victorian house, diners will be treated to fresh and home made breads, sauces, soups and dressings accompanying each days gourmet entrees. For a more casual experience, we can recommend Doyle's Irish Pub for lunch and dinner, Dilar's family restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Manny's
Snack Shack for breakfast and lunch. There's even a great little martini bar, Olive Black, that serves great martinis and offers a limited menu at dinner as well as live music each weekend.
This property is located between Chicago. Chicago is accessible by Metra train leaving the Fox Lake station several times each day and Milwaukee is best accessed by car. Both cities offer major league sports teams, high quality music and theatrical venues, access to Lake Michigan and a plethora of shops, restaurants and festivals. Summerfest in Milwaukee offers one of the premier festivals in the midwest, and Taste of Chicago and Lollapalooza in Chicago are two of the best Chicago has to offer. Locally, there is the Renaissance Faire in Bristol, the Harvard Milk Days, McHenry's Fiesta Days, Woodstock's Jazz Festival and farmers market, Burlington Wisconsin's Chocolate Festival, Long Grove, Illinois' Chocolate Festival, Strawberry Festival and Apple Festival; Crystal Lake's Cardboard Cup Regatta and CABA tournament.
